  1. Ok for the last time I am going to try and explain this. Yes you can update to 1.2 from SMR and a USB jump drive. Yes yours may be working great. Yes we at the dealer uses a male to male usb cable to connect a laptop to the usb port. However, we also connect to the data link connector under the dash at the same time. We also check the system for codes, latest calibrations, and report the installation to the Ford server at the time of install. Unlike SMR where if you dont return your jump drive to your computer, your update does not get reported. (no big deal). Also, 1.2 is a fine patch. But its the equalivent of updating service pack1 on windows when service pack 2 is out. The TSB I quoted, has one part in it that I should have pasted... So here it is.... NOTE: CONFIGURATION AND PROGRAMMING REQUIRES THE USE OF A SPECIAL PROFESSIONAL TECHNICIAN SOCIETY (PTS) APPLICATION. INSTALLER MUST HAVE ACCESS TO PTS AND HAVE A VALID PTS USER ID AND PASSWORD. Do you have that? Whats so amazing to me is that I was trying to help you guys as Ford customers get a "FREE" update! I was not trying to get you to spend money. Like I have done to other memebers in the MKS forum and they appreciated the extra info to get their car repaired. I want Ford owners to be happy with their cars. I take pride in my work and like to help but I have no issues with walking away from those that don't want it.
  2. Very well, its obvious that you know more than me on a product that I make a living doing. Best of luck to you all. I don't believe I will be assisting any more with info on here. I know exactly how this system works inside and out. Amazingly, I didn't read it from a bunch of ill-informed people from a website, I actually went to a class . Help was asked for, I gave it, you rejected it. F-U! and yes believe what you want, but I know our updates are better.
  3. You can only update the "CIP module" by sync my ride. You can not update the "VIP module" unless you are at the dealer. Plus we are at sync 2.0 with VHR 911. The dealer updates are much better. Also, since there is a TSB you wont be charged to get the USB working again. 911 VHR is a little different, but they may update it for you while they are programming. Its basicaly the same process.
  4. Ok good luck to you. Just like customers, not all dealers are alike. I just see alot of vehicles that customers have taken to multiple places trying to repair and sometimes they are botched up, just for them to come to us and it be something like a reflash, or a known issues for us. It would have saved time and money after all. So whatever gets you thru the day.... On another note, you will find if you are a repeat customer for service, you will be treated alot better because more than likely you have developed a relationship with a service advisor. Plus if ever your vehicle has a major issue out of warranty, a repeat customer has a much better chance for assistance.
  5. BTW I am not being a smart A$$ but sometimes we get vehicles the come in after a customer "fixed" it themselves and breaks trim and etc. Then wants it to be warrantied..
  6. Instead of screwing around with it, why not just take it to the dealer and get it fixed by someone that has the tools to diag your problem. Im going to help you with this one. TSB 09-7-9 SYNC SOFTWARE UPDATE - VARIOUS ISSUES Publication Date: April 2, 2009 FORD: 2008-2009 Focus, Fusion, Taurus X, Taurus 2009 Mustang 2008-2009 Edge, Explorer Sport Trac, Explorer 2009 Escape, Expedition, F-150, F-Super Duty, Flex LINCOLN: 2008-2009 MKZ 2009 MKS 2008-2009 MKX, Navigator MERCURY: 2008-2009 Milan, Sable, Mountaineer 2009 Mariner This article supersedes TSB 08-25-3 to update the Service Procedure. USB audio muting when using various non-Apple USB devices. Phone book access difficulty on certain 2-digit phone book entries when using voice commands. Excessive background noise and/or poor voice sound quality. Phone book auto download inoperative on supported devices. SYNC steering wheel control (SWC) switches being intermittently inoperative. This software update does not apply to vehicles that have had the V2 (911 and Vehicle Health Report) upgrade installed. ACTION: Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition. Service Pack files may also be obtained at www.syncmyride.com. Good Luck P.S. Plus, maybe you can talk them into upgrading to VHR and 911 for free since they have to program it anyway.
  7. I highly recommend taking it to a dealer and pay to have it changed. But if you must do it yourself, there are two holes on the sides of the wheel. Use a small allen wrench and push in to release the clips. It can be difficult to find the clips. Becareful disconnecting the connectors. Airbags are land mines..... Removal WARNING: Always carry or place a live air bag module with the air bag and deployment door/trim cover/tear seam pointed away from the body. Do not set a live air bag module down with the deployment door/trim cover/tear seam face down. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury in the event of an accidental deployment. WARNING: Never probe the electrical connectors on air bag, Safety Canopy® or side air curtain modules. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of these modules, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death. NOTE: The air bag warning indicator illuminates when the correct Restraints Control Module (RCM) fuse is removed and the ignition is ON. NOTE: The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer. Depower the SRS. For additional information, refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in the General Procedures portion of this section. NOTE: Repeat this step for both locking pins. Using a 3 mm (0.11 in) Allen wrench or a suitable tool through the access hole on the backside of the steering wheel, position the tool against the spring clip and push in, disengaging the clip from the locking pin. With the spring clip disengaged from the locking pin, gently pull back on that side of the driver air bag module to release it from the steering wheel. NOTICE: Do not pull the driver air bag module electrical connectors out by the locking buttons. Damage to the locking buttons can occur. Using a small screwdriver as shown, lift up and release the locking buttons on the driver air bag module electrical connectors. With the locking buttons released, remove the electrical connectors and the driver air bag module. Installation NOTICE: Do not install the driver air bag module electrical connectors by the locking buttons. Damage to the locking buttons can occur. NOTICE: The driver air bag module electrical connector locking buttons must be in the released position when the connector is being installed or connector damage may occur. NOTICE: The driver air bag module electrical connectors are unique and cannot be reversed when connected to the driver air bag module. Match the electrical connector key to the keyway in the driver air bag module. Do not force the electrical connectors into the driver air bag module. Damage to the connector or component may occur. With the locking buttons released, install the driver air bag module electrical connectors fully into the driver air bag module and seat the locking buttons. NOTE: Audible clicks will be heard when both wire clips are seated in the driver air bag module. Align the driver air bag module locking pins to the steering wheel and, while pushing inward, seat the 2 driver air bag module locking pins to the steering wheel wire clips. When the 2 locking pins are seated in place, there should be an even gap between the driver air bag module trim cover and the steering wheel. Repower the SRS. For additional information, refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in the General Procedures portion of this section. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  8. Check and see if it only does it when the a/c is on. If it only does it when the a/c is on, then its the compressor engaging. Whats happening is that the compressor is low on the engine and all the oil in the a/c system drains to the compressor and when it engages, the oil is pushed out of the compressor back into the system. So try it with out the a/c on and see if it stops. Good luck
  9. Im sure its a restricted heater core. The problem is that the flux when the heater core was made is flaking apart in the core and stopping it up. The core is very thin. I have put a heater core in a edge for the same concern. Its a fairly big job, but its not that bad. The heater core I put in is only real problem we have seen with the edge. Its been a trouble free vehicle around my area. I hope you get it fixed with out and problems. Good Luck
