  1. Hi all, I spoke with the person who does audio/ navi installs for my Ford dealer and he said, after some research, that it is possible to install the 2009 factory navi system after the fact without losing any functionality. He did say that there would need to be a lot of rewiring and that the steering wheel controls would need to be replaced. A new antenna would need to be installed as well. All in all it sounded like a major hassle, and it would cost $3250. Ouch. I decided to pass and I will buy a Garmin Nuvi 885T instead. Its got a voice activated system, that according to reviews, actually works really well. It also has all the other features I want in a Navi but for WAY less that what the upgrade would have cost. Hope that helps.
  2. Dymes, That's encouraging to hear that a Ford tech thinks it can be done. I wish I lived in Ontario so I could head out there and have the work done, but I am afraid its a bit of a drive from Los Angeles. Please let us know what you find out. I'll post about my experiences with my situation after each turn. I've emailed Ford corporate asking if it can be done, and the guy who works for the dealership should get back to me tomorrow. More to come.
  3. Wow I am so bummed to hear that. Thanks for the honest feedback though. Is there any recourse I can take against the dealer? I feel like they should sell me a different vehicle now.
  4. Shutting a vent in an '09 will kill the airflow out of that vent. It does indeed shut completely.
  5. I have a 2009 Edge though ... does that make a difference when installing a 2009 Navi system?
  6. Went into the dealer today and spoke with a third-party person they use to install navi systems. He says that the factory 2009 navi system can be installed, but he will need to add a second antenna to the roof, ugh. That's a small consolation, though, if everything else would work like steering wheel controls etc. My sales person told me it could be upgraded no problem before I bought the car. Now it sounds like a hassle. WTF.
  7. MKX2007, Would you mind posting a pic of the dashmat if possible, please? Thanks
  8. I just tonight noticed the high pitched whining in my 2009 Edge Limited. I will be bringing in the vehicle to the dealer on the 23rd and will let them know about the possible fuel pump issue. If I find anything out I'll let you all know. Thanks
  9. Ah, ok, thanks for the explanation. BTW there is s dashmat at Dashtoppers.com for the Edge but it is for the 2007 Edge. I assume it would fit the 2009 Edge, though.
  10. I have an '09 and yes the vents are vertical. They also move both horizontally and vertically so you can direct air an just about any direction. They don't really push out air at a high velocity but they work fine. We'll see when Summer comes, though, hehe.
  11. CreamEDGE, That is indeed a nice looking kit. What's the difference between a 2d kit and a 3d kit?
  12. Good to hear you like it. The glare is killing me and I am glad it eliminates that. I have a few questions if you don't mind me asking ... - How far down does it hang over the glove box? - Does it also cover that center rubber thing which is meant for portable GPS units or whatever? That's a cause of glare in my Edge. - Does it really look alright? I am hoping it kind of sinks in with the cars look as opposed to standing out. If the stitching is white it might look good with teh white stiching of my interiors leather. Thanks!
  13. Thanks for the replies guys. I talked to my dealer and they advised against adding a vista roof after the fact. I'll live without it.
  14. Anybody tried these dash mats? http://www.dashtopper.com/shop.net/SedonaSuedeDT.aspx
  15. FWIW I don't plan on continuing my Sirius subscription. I have all my music loaded on my phone and listen to that via Blue Tooth. I leave it on shuffle and don't even think about it.
  16. Speaking of the Limited stock speakers ... what sizes are they anyways? And do you guys know how much power the Limited receivers put out? Thanks
  17. Hi guys, Can anyone recommend a good dash mat for an edge with black interior? I wish ford made one to match the seats. Will carpet look OK? I have never owned a dash mat and really don't want to have something tacky looking up there. I guess as long as it doesn't hang down on the front face of the dash at all it should be ok. Can anyone share pics of theirs? I've got a 2009 Edge Limited with White Suede exterior and black leather interior. I do have some of the reflection issues that I've been reading about in the forums, especially on a bright day. I don't think my issues are as bad as those with the lighter interiors. Also, what do you think of using wood interior kits in an Edge? I've seen some which look cool but am not sure if the wood trim would go with the otherwise techie styling of the Edge, espcially the mood lighting. Thanks!
  18. Ya, I sat in both with the seat as low as it could go in both models and the BAMR does cut into the headroom a few inches. Are you sure about not ebing able to add a BAMR to a normal roof? It looks like you can pop off the standard roof as there is a rubber seal around it and it looks like it is an entirely separate piece that can be removed.
  19. Ya, it does cut into the headroom. The way it is designed there is 2-3 inches more headroom in the Edge without the Vista roof. That said, does anyone know if Ford can install the Vista roof after the fact?
  20. Hi All, I was just wondering what the taller Edge drivers think about the Vista roof. Does it cut into your headroom too much? I'm 6'4" and opted to not get it due to it cutting on my head room ... just curious what those of you as tall or taller than me think. N_O
  21. I want to upgrade my audio system to the Navi system sometime soon. I asked my dealer if it will be the Factory Navi system, as that's what it sounds like will work the best with Sync and BT.
  22. Nicassio, Congrats to you too! I noticed that with the BAMR I had about one inch of headroom, which was kind of awkward. I'm glad it works for you, though!
  23. Hi Everyone, I purchased and received a 2009 FWD Edge Limited with White Suede exterior and black leather interior on 1/23/09. I am absolutely delighted with this vehicle! From the exterior styling to the quiet cabin, comfortable seats, and responsive ride, the Edge rocks! Coming from a 2001 Nissan Sentra GXE the Edge is a joy in so many ways. The spacious interior is perfect for my tall frame and the seats are equally as comfortable. The leather feels good and I like the tall height of the seat back. The interior mood lighting is also a nice touch. Sync, however, is so much more than a nice touch. It is pure genius! Thank you Ford and Microsoft! I have the upgraded audio system without the Nav and I am able to stream music from my Samsung Omnia via bluetooth to the audio system ... awesome! The steering wheel controls for next song and previous song even control those controls in Windows Media Player on my phone. So dope! Although I didn't get the Nav system I am contemplating having it installed in the future. My dealer said that it is possible, and I wonder if you have any experience with having it installed after the fact. Any pitfalls to watch out for? Is it worth it or am I better off buying a small portable unit like a Garmin or Navigon? Being quite tall at 6'4" I decided to forgo the BAMR, which in my experience cut down on the headroom. I am curious if other people, say 6'3" and above feel that the BAMR cut into their headroom a bit too much also? Don't get me wrong, this isn't a complaint but rather a question. :-) Maybe if the Edge's driver seat could be lowered another two inches in future models the BAMR would work for us tall folks? My decision process was actually a long one of about three months of reading, researching, and test diving before I decided on the Edge. After considering just about every SUV and CUV on the market I ended up test driving the Edge, Element, RAV-4, Outlook, Highlander, Explorer, and Pilot. I even sat in a Venza but felt the interior was much too small (not to mention the car is just plain ugly). The Edge won me over due to its interior comfort, exterior styling (yeah, I love the chrome grill), and its tech features like Sync, mood lighting, and puddle lamps (love those and how they slowly fade out). Many of the other vehicles I test drove, like the Element and RAV-4 felt like they were designed for smaller people (and probably were). The moment I sat in an Edge it felt like it was designed for me. It truly is a pleasure to drive! Thank you Ford for designing, building, and selling this fantastic vehicle! I am so excited about owning mine and I look forward to future advances in future Edge models. EDIT: I forgot to mention how handy the Power Liftgate is. I also really like the white stitching in the black leather as it picks up on the white exterior. Its little touches like that which I really like abut the Edge!
