  1. Here is the fluid analysis from my original post. Aluminum and copper are 9x the "universal average". Iron is 2x. It would be interesting to compare numbers from other 8F35s. The transmission seems to shift ok. Guess I'll take Blackstone's advice and check it again in 10k miles. Anybody have thoughts or experience with this? Thank you.
  2. @lildisco Thanks for sharing! Perhaps then it's fairly normal for the fluid to go dark. So is it the fluid or the transmission that causes this? On every other car I've owned, the fluid remained quite red and clean pretty much until the transmission started to fail.
  3. @dabangsta Good to know, thanks for the info. In that case, hopefully the analysis doesn't show anything unusual.
  4. About a year ago I read @colinc755's suggestions about servicing the 8F35 transmission fluid. At that time, with 65,000 miles on the vehicle, I had our local Ford service department drain and fill the transmission. (I do not believe it had been done prior to this.) This seemed to resolve some of the hard shifting and bucking which manifested from the transmission at the time. Yesterday, a year later, with 85,000 miles on the vehicle, I had the same service done (along with changing the PTU and rear differential oil). I requested that the tech collect a sample of the old fluid for me, as I'd like to have an analysis done. I found the sample to be nearly black in color. Correct me if I'm wrong - but isn't the ULV fluid red when fresh? For what it's worth, I didn't notice any distinct "burnt" smell. The transmission seems to work okay, with no more hard shifting and bucking than the last 60,000 miles we've had the car. But based on the fluid color I wonder if I have an impending transmission failure. Wondering if the hive mind has any thoughts on this. I'm expecting the lab results from Blackstone in a couple of weeks. Hopefully that will provide some insight.
  5. To update: issued has not recurred since software update about a month ago.
  6. Hi there, I just started experiencing some similar symptoms with the black screen. It looks like my Edge is doing a software update over wifi now. Hopefully that fixes the problem. Will let you know. 2019 Edge Titanium AWD
  7. So this has happened maybe 6-8 times over the last couple of months: driving on the highway, adaptive cruise set at approx. 75 MPH and the vehicle suddenly applies hard braking for no apparent reason. A few times there was a vehicle in my lane ahead, but >150 feet away with no obvious closure rate. Other times the nearest vehicle ahead is >1/4 mi away with no apparent safety concerns. It has happened occasionally with a vehicle ahead and in the next lane to the right, and mostly when driving east in the morning, with the sun in front of the vehicle and casting long shadows on the road. I don't know if the ACC uses the camera, but I'll mention that I had the windshield replaced a few months ago. The windshield repair guy said that a recalibration was only needed if the vehicle gave a warning message indicating as such. However, the lane assist doesn't seem to work nearly as well since. And now I'm wondering if the ACC is affected. I recently mentioned the issue to a service writer at the dealer, but they offered no help. Anybody have experience with this?
  8. To add to the conversation: I visited our local Ford dealer yesterday and requested a drain and fill. The service writer said that it wasn't recommended until 150k miles, but I ask them to do it anyway. We also discussed the weird shifting (occasional "bucking" / hard shifting), and he started to mention all kinds of things that we could to try to correct that (at my expense, of course), but it really didn't sound like he was familiar with this complaint on the Edge. Ultimately, I just had the fluid changed (drain and fill, as discussed). I don't think they did anything with the software, but I swear it seems to shift smoother. Not sure if it's in my head or if the new fluid is helping. For what it's worth, the tech said that the existing fluid appeared "normal." Thanks again for the info and help.
  9. Thank you for your insight! It makes sense and I really appreciate you taking the time. Unfortunately, our 2019 has 62K miles and I don't think the transmission fluid has ever been serviced. We bought it 2 years ago with 20K miles on it and have taken it to a dealer for oil changes - so far as I know they never mentioned the need for transmission fluid service. And the official consumer-level Ford maintenance schedule simply says to inspect the fluid and "consult with the dealer for requirements" every so often. It never struck me as odd to have a long service interval, because our 4Runner's first transmission fluid service came at over 100k - and it's always worked incredibly well. We really like the Edge, but the transmission has always felt funny - like it's shifting at the wrong time or shifting roughly. We had a software update around late 2020/early 2021, but I'm not sure it changed anything. I'll likely take your recommendation in an attempt to prolong the transmission life. Thanks again.
  10. I read in another thread that @colinc755 suggested that the 8f35 doesn't do well with flushes, and recommends just doing a sump drain and fill. I'm planning to take my Edge to the dealer to change the fluid, and I know they are going to recommend flushing it. @colinc755 could you expand a little on this? (For my own knowledge and so I can have some defense for requesting a sump drain-n-fill only.
