  1. I wanted to keep the stock head unit also... I started by upgrading all the door speakers with the infinity 682.9cf they sounded better than the stock speakers but not much better... I sold my stock navigation system and speakers on ebay for $1250.00 you can get an F900BT for about $700.00, 2.0 update fixed all issues add four infinity 682.9cf's for $300 and you will have a system that blows the audiophile system out of the water. with a few buck left over for a sub and amp.   2. pull the battery out... just behind it there is a boot for a bunch of wires either cut a small slit in it or drill a hole next to it and use a gromet. If you drill a hole a gromet is a must.
  3. Both are great units... I went with the F900BT with the 2.0 update. It has BT built in also I have an iPhone/iPod and I didn't want mess with keeping all my music synced up with ANOTHER hard drive and it has a SD card slot so basiclly it acts like a little harddrive. my Edge came with stock steering wheel controls so I hooked up an adapter so they would work with the F900BT I installed. Not much help, I know...

  8. That statement was based on my experience and a little bit of research... I can't say it is fact... but... I did hook up an aftermarket amp and 12" sub to the stock sub outputs of the nav unit and as I turned up the volume the bass dropped out.. not just a lttle bit but almost all of it. This led me to chase down what was going on... so I hit google and a few forums and most agreed... for the protection of stock speakers most stock head units do whats called "roll off" in the bass department. All research pointed to proccessing units like the RE-Q if I wanted to keep the stock head unit and add subs. I opted to just replace the whole system as I have had no experience with these type units. I'm not a "boomer" as most of the music I like is acoustic or "live". So a well rounded sound is what I look for.   9. It was the aftermarket head unit I put in that was bypassed... I have not seen an OEM unit bypassed yet.
  10. I installed a pioneer f900bt with a steering wheel control module and it works great. Of course I lost sync, but i'm ok with that, the f900bt has voice control also but I don't use it much. I also made the mod so the nav can be programed when driving and dvd can also be watched while driving, for my passenger of course. Keep in mind the stock head unit (the audiophile w/nav unit anyway) cuts the bass as you turn it up. This can be corrected with the use of a MTX Re-Q, users on this board say they work very well. I sold all my stock stuff for almost same price it cost me to put in all of my aftermarket hardware.
  11. Just pulled the driverside not nearly enough room for the amp I have, oh well. The back seat goes down just fine, the amp just had to mounted a bit forward so the bar misses it; when it moves forward and down. Thanks for the thought though.
  12. hmmm..... I figured they put the lift gate motor and other stuff in there. I will move it if there is enough room. Thanks for the heads up!!! will there be enough room even with the power liftgate option? Would like to know before unhooking everything. Thanks!!

  15. Just for those of you interested... My original thought was to add some nice door speakers and an aftermarket sub to replace the stock 8" but keep the stock navi... well that just wasn't going to work for me, basicaly the front and rears are crossed over from the head unit so tapping into those for the sub wouldn't work, the stock head unit also cuts the bass off when you turn it up, for protection i'm sure. I see there are units that process the facory signal to stop the bass "roll off" but i'm sceptical about those. So..... I tore it all out and put in an AVIC-F900BT, 682.9cf's in the doors and a JL Audio Stealthbox with a Pioneer 300watt AMP. All I have to say is... WOW! I had the Kappa's hooked up to the stock ford navi unit and the difference is night and day, and thats without the sub!! Throw the stealthbox into the mix and WOW!!! That thing is perfect! great low end, for all music not just bass heavy songs. Also not so much bass that I sound like a teenager BOOMING through the streets, you can barely here it out side of the vehicle, even when turned up pretty good. Not to mention you can't even see the sub, same location as the stock 8". the amp is under the driverside back seat. It took me the better part of two days to put everything in, i'm sure it can be done MUCH faster but I took my time soldering all the wires and making everything nice and neat, plus I hooked up a Sirius adaptor and a module to retain the steering wheel controls that works perfect. Needless to say i'll be selling all the stock stuff to offset the $$$, I have no idea what i'll get for it all.
  16. Well... my stealthbox is on the way, very expensive but not having a large box sitting in the back is important to me. Anybody else put one in yet? Just wondering how it sounds, a bit late to ask i guess. I have installed an 12" box (temporary) and sub with aftermarket amp off the stock head unit w/nav, it seems the bass rolloff kills the bass when I turn it up. Does anyone know if the "rolloff" afects all speakers or just the sub? Should I tap the rear speakers instead of using the sub harness in the back? I think an new nav/head unit will be coming next.
  17. Hey all. I have a question for those of you who added an aftermarket subwoofer... I have the audiophile system with stock subwoofer, I wanted to use the wires from the sub/amp clip but don't get any output unless the stock amp is hooked up... Are these wires low or high output? does the head unit not send power/sounds to these unless the amp is hooked up or on? It seems silly to have an amp hooked up with a RCA converter in front of another amp. Thanks for any help! -T

  19. After my H&R spring install my front wheel well gaps are still larger than the rear... is his normal? I thought since the H&R srings lower the front more than the rear they would be almost exactly the same. Are you other H&R owners seeing the same with your gaps?? thanks -T
  20. my "dealer" just charged me $68.00 each for the TPMS straps and $90.00 to install them on top of the $20.00 a wheel for mounting and balancing!!! Great relationship! :o
  21. I guess I should have read your post a bit slower.... (no power) With any luck it should just be a loose connection, I would start looking at the center console connection first.
  22. does there seem to be power to the USB connect, or no power and no sound?
