  1. Opening the drivers door seems to "activate" and ready the vehicle. I'm no genius, but maybe the system recognizes that someone using the passenger or rear doors is not intending to drive the vehicle, so no need to "wake up" the entire system.

I have mine set on the highest sensitivity setting. I would rather have it be a bit over reactive than under reactive. Keeps me alert and reminds me to be not so complaisant. It might not be a perfect system, but one day it might save my ass!

I have mine set to level 3. It's the vehicles that pull into that gap that cause it to over-react, but I try to anticipate the rapid slow down.

The owners manual says you can change the sensitivity of it, but I have not been able to find it in my settings, but I guess I didn't really look all that hard as it has only flaked out on me a couple of times with large semi trailers in adjacent lanes, and I guess a bit sensitive in stop and go traffic if I am aggressive with the 0-75-0 or the adaptive cruise is.

It's not in settings, it's on the left steering wheel controls.

  4. Don't worry, since ceramic and wax sits on the surface, you haven't damaged the clear coat or paint, but you will need to remove the ceramic coating. I'd check online to see if there are proven techniques and solutions specific to removing ceramic coating. The best way I've found to remove old wax is to wash the car with Dawn or another detergent that breaks down grease, then clay bar the car, wash and apply wax or ceramic. If you want to do just the affected area, try a clay bar on a small area. Of course, never use Dawn to regularly wash the car. Good luck.

Have an '07 and the passenger side door handle chrome is peeling off and actually cut my wife's finger. Has anyone had to replace one of these? Directions or is there a shop manual showing the sequence I could look at? Thanks

The same thing happened to be on my 2013 Fusion. It was on the inside so I just sanded it down and it was ok and not visible.

the age and mileage of your vehicle has a large impact on pricing of the plan

I'm talking with a ford dealer to arrange a 2yr/24,000 mile powertrain warranty for about 1600.

But mine is a 2016 with about 105K miles

I purchased it through an online Ford dealership in Michigan and now that I think about it, they added restrictions to protect themselves, and if I recall, mileage was one of them. The dealership tried to sell me a similar one for $2400.

$100/month for how many months?  Sounds super expensive especially for partial coverage.  And good luck getting them to agree to cover something.  3rd parties are notoriously difficult.  That’s why we all recommend only Ford warranties ( or better yet keep the money in your pocket).

It sure does. I just paid $1440, or $40 a month for a Ford Premium ESP. It gives me 4 more years on powertrain and continues everything else until Feb. 2029 or 100,000. There are mileage restrictions on Ford plans and my Edge is a 2020 with 44,000 at the time, but I was able to purchase a Ford ESP because it was a Blue Oval Certified Gold used vehicle, otherwise I wouldn't have been eligible for a Ford plan.

You can be certain, your driving is being tracked.

I know. I'm old school and try to keep a minimal digital footprint, I don't like it, but know I have no choice. Here in AZ, you have to drive at least 10 over to avoid being run off the road. I've been her for 6 years and my rates haven't changed dramatically, so fingers crossed.

  9. I just saw, but didn't read a story about Congress working on privacy protections for Americans. Considering the players, I don't expect any real safeguards against tracking and driving behavior if it takes money or control from corporations. I have SYNC 3 with Nav, so as long as my driving isn't being tracked, I'm not worried about them knowing where I go, I have nothing to hide. In the event of a collision, isn't there an internal devise that records speed, braking, steering et al. Like as already stated, my iPhone is tracking more than my car.

Hmm, so I'm better off without it? Very interesting.  Thanks for the info.

Do I sense a bit of cynicism in your reply?

I've had it on two Ford vehicles, use it all the time and have never had a problem, either intentional or accidental.

The hands free liftgate was changed in 2021. 2021+ it was only available standard on the Titanium and in the 401a high level ST package. No longer available on SEL or ST-Line. Oddly enough it was standard on all ST-Lines in 2020. I doubt the dealer led you astray but there is enough information out there to know what is and isn't available. I am guessing you had outdated details on something that was removed 4 years ago.

There's a huge library of order guides on the Blue Oval forum.

I have often wondered if engineers received trips to Hawaii for making stupid

There are certainly bonuses when cost cutting measures are created.

Never liked charging by USB, takes too long. I only use the power plug anymore. Easier to plug in as well. (Plus it stays on when the car is shut off, able to continue charging when having lunch, etc.)

My original question was about draining the battery, not charging. I just wanted some confirmation that it didn't drain the battery and niceonept answered my question. Since I plugged them in, I noticed once that the nano battery wasn't fully charged, so that indicates that they shut down, otherwise it would always be fully charged.

Does the IPAD actually charge of a standard USB port? Although the Red requires +5vdc and Black is common, I thought that the IPAD required 2.0 & 2.75 on the D+ & D- pins to initiate charging?

I misspoke in my op when I stated two usb ports. There is a usb and a 19 pin (?) port in the center console below the climate control. I have a very old iPod plugged into the usb and a less old nano in the 19 pin. It's about 3500 songs.

Like to add that on gen one vehicles, the power points are hot continously when the engine is off. (They never shut off.)

Discovered this the hard way when I left a radar detector plugged in over a weekend.

I had a Focus with SYNC 1 and to say the least, it was buggy.

The accessory 12v power ports shut down after 75 minutes after delay power is shut off. That can be changed via ForScan to immediately shut off, never shut off, or various times, the different settings can be found in most ForScan spreadsheets for the Fusion or F150 (or edge of course). If they are plugged into the USB ports they are powered down when the delay accessory power is turned off.

I'm using the center console usb ports. I'm assuming they shut down either when the lights go out, or after a few minutes when the ecu sounds like it's clicking off.

  17. This question is as old as SYNC itself, but after checking eight pages of posts and using the above title as search words, I didn't find anything. There are conflicting opinions on the interweb, and most say devices power down and don't drain the battery, but I have two iPods plugged in and want to leave them there, so I'll ask the question, does leaving devices plugged in all the time potentially drain the battery?
