  1. So you guys recommend to, simply said, wash the engine with oil till the oil is clean. A few oil changes to clean the engine.

I got about 162k on the edge, don't know if the car had an oil change before, because I bought it before 5 years.

MOD Edit: Off-topic comments deleted - do a forum search.

I gathered that you were not proficient in English and have no issue with that.

So, have you done 5,000 miles in the 5 years its not been serviced, or have you done 300,000 miles in 5 years without a service?

Clearly the engine has suffered due to lack of maintenance, but how badly none of us can tell, so again, best find a qualified mechanic that can assess the engine and decide the next steps such as an oil flush and frequent oil and oil filter changes.

I have done about 70000km in 5 years.

I already added signature on the first time you have said it. I can see my signature on desktop site.

Not sure what your expectations are here - you chose not to respond to that question when I asked it earlier.

The reason behind that question was to ascertain if this could be a case of maintenance neglect, which results in sludge, and sludge doesn't work well with any engine and particularly the Variable Valve Timing controls.

Any qualified mechanic will have the skills to assess and diagnose this type of problem.

Sorry buddy, but I responded to any post you have made. Maybe my English is not the best, but I do my best. I responded with the answer that I have ordered 7 qts of oil. It was meant to be the answer you wanted to have, that I didn't do an oil change for many years.

Hope you understand what I mean.

did you replace the cam sensors (under the intake) or the VCT solenoids (on top of the valve covers/belt side of engine)?  want to be sure because ford uses interchangeable terminology on some things.

I only replaced the camshaft position sensors: Rockauto

103,451 miles without an oil and oil filter change, .......that's your problem right there.

Need more than the error codes read - need to live scan the data - you say you had it at a mechanics shop? - best to find a qualified service shop.

ok what data exactly? The mechanic shop owner is my cousin, thats because I went to him.

I just ordered 7 qts of Motorcraft Premium Synthetic Blend; SAE 5W-20 and a Motorcraft Oil Filter.

    What's the mileage?

What oil change intervals, what oil used and what oil filter?

This is quite common on poorly serviced vehicles where the sludge causes issues with the camshaft Oil Control Valve (OCV) but someone with a scanner can actually do the required diagnostics to confirm what's actually wrong before throwing more parts at it.

Oil change never made since I got the car. Filter also not.

I was in a mechanic garage and he could read the error code, but couldn't tell me what's the source of this failure.

  6. Sorry for bumping this old thread, but I am having the same CEL P0020 error on my 07 Edge for about 4 or 5 years now.

The car runs smooth all the way.

Finally I decided to work on the CEL so it won't come back on again.

I already changed the camshaft positions sensors bank 1 and 2.

What would you guys do next?

Oil change with Motorcraft oil or other recommend oil?

    Change the Oxygen sensors?

    What else?

    Reset and Relearn the VVT?

    Thanks for any help.

  7. Do you have pictures of them installed on your F-350?

Never seen those installed but I assume that they would give a more "modern" look to your Edge and also give you a lot better lighting. I did install similar units on my '08 Ford F-350 and I find it makes the truck look more "newer".  I'd say "GO FOR IT"!  :)

Mileage on your vehicle?  When were struts/strut mounts last replaced?  Ditto for lower control arms and sway bar links.

Could be brakes or hubs (circlips) too if more like "plink" sound.

About 160k. Struts/strut mounts nevere replaced.

Lower control arms were changed about one year ago.

Sway bar links, maybe 2 years ago.

What do you mean with plink sound, like a higher frequent sound?

It sounds for me like, the spring slips off somewhere. But when I jack up the car, the springt doesnt make any noise and everything looks fine.

Should I make a Video of the noise?

  9. Hi guys,

I got a problem on my 2007 SEL AWD. I was already at my local mechanic a few times and he can't find where it comes from.

It sounds like a metal popping noise and only appears once everytime when coming from a left turn to straigt or when I drive a bumpy road.

It sounds for me like its coming from the driver side front wheel area. I also can feel it in the footwell.

It only appears in city driving, not on the Autobahn.

Everything seems to be tight. Have checked it a few times.

    Hope you can help me.

If the leak is ONLY from the vent, yes, there is a chance.  If it however is from one of the 3 seals around the PTU, seal replacement is necessary.  If that seal is the transmission to PTU seal, you will be faced with the question of replacing the PTU, as the labor is the same to either replace the seal or replace the seal AND the PTU.

Drilling the drain plug is simply a way to make fluid changes easier.

If  the "transmission to PTU" seal is faulty, could the PTU be repaired or is the PTU damaged and not reuseable again? Or could it be reused after cleaning and changing all seals and refilling new oil, I think 75w-140, right?
