1. I eventually settled on the Coverking oak velour(V17) because it was not to dark and not to light. The taupe(V15) and the Dark taupe (V19) were my second choices both a hair darker than the oak. The stone interior is not easy to match because it has no warm tones which are present in most of the mat colors. The coverking dash cover is slightly different than the dash mat in that it covers more of the grills(defroster) which is the source of most of the glare. In addition, the coverking actually fits over the storage tray on the top of the dash(and grey trim piece) which was source of glare on the pre-production vehicles and is still a source of glare for some people. The portion that fits over the storage tray was contoured so that it follows the inside of the tray so you can still use it only without the rubber insert. The Coverking also did not have a cut out for the light sensor on the dash so minor modification may be necessary, (I plan to cut a small section between the two grille cut-outs and fold under an pin them) as each vent opening has an individual cut-out unlike the Dashmat which has a continuous opening. What I liked about the Dashmat brand is that it sat slightly flatter. It gets down to form or function, the coverking worked better to limit glare while the Dashmat had a slight "Edge" in appearance as it looked slightly more fitted. The taupe or latte would work if you opt for the the Dashmat brand however, the latte was a little to light in color if glare is an issue for you. The Dashmat also provides a opening for the light sensor on the dash. If you call the manufacturer direct, they will send samples which are better than the pictures but, none of the colors were a perfect match for the stone.
2. Here is the link to new colors for the seeing impaired: I was hoping for a medium to dark blue in 2007. https://www.fleet.ford.com/showroom/2008fle....asp?Model=Edge
3. Thanks, I thought that the computer kept a "Memory" of throttle position and other similar information that would modify the shift points to a some degree. I guess they have good spin doctors in the marketing Dept?
4. That computer is a fickle thing, the mileage seems to be all over the place sometimes for no reason but is usually pretty close in the end, I have noticed significant fluctions when at idle for a while. As for the upshifting, the computer has a memory of your driving habits which will impact how the transmission shifts etc. I was also told by a service manager not to baby the vehicle during break in but drive as you usually would or it won't act accordingly when you do step on it. Maybe someone out there has a better grasp on how this works exactly and could give a more technical description?

6. I also noticed the long interval on oil changes in the manual and after speaking with the service rep. found out that they use part synthetic oil at the dealer, thus the extended interval however, if driving in stop and go situations he suggested that you go with the shorter interval for heavy use /dusty conditions . Personaly, I prefer the 3,000 mi. interval because I keep my vehicle for the duration and don't trade in on a regular basis. Long live your edge!
7. Speaking of the center storage compartment, does anyone think they overdid it a bit? It really cramps things when going to clip in the safety belt or if I have cell phone on my belt! Wanted to know if anyone else feels the same or if I need to get a more compact cell phone?
8. I just purchased a SEL+ with back-up sensor option and paid close to sticker however, I made the deal because Ford had special finanacing that was good till late April(?) of .9% on 36 months, 1.9% on 48 months, 2.9% on 60months and gave me a very gernerous trade-in on a 1995 Villager in good condition. What I lost on haggling price, I made up for on financing and trade-in which put me well ahead of the curve, so I took the plunge. I did not think I would do any better in the Fall. I have been waiting since Fall of 2006 for this vehicle to show up and could not wait any longer!
9. I would also like to echo that sentiment! In alll my excitement over getting mine I forget to pass on my thanks to all the hard work that was put into launching this vehicle!!!!!!!!! From all I read on this site, it does not sound like it was an easy launch. I have been waiting since the 2006 Chicago auto show to park one in my driveway! Now I can settle down and watch some great series on the way to Lord Stanleys Cup! If only I could fiqure out how to get my B-Hawks back in the playoffs?? I guess two out of three ain't bad! Thanks again to all !
10. cd :\[/img] Here are those pictures I promised. Please note that the mat is set in place as I did attach with the small adhesive strips that are pre-attached to the underside of the mat. I will be returning this one as I am hoping to get a little better color match. It looks pretty good but , I am hoping a darker brown may tie in better with the dark portion of the dash. Let me know if you are interested in knowing which color I settle on to go with stone interior. Hope it helps! P.S. Color shown is "Latte"
11. You are incorrect, I just received one this weekend and layed it in place to check fit and color. The reason it works is becuase there is a cut-out seam that allows air bag deploy unobstructed. The fit is very good overall even with all the curves in the edge's dash! I ordered the velour fabric material as it does not look like carpeting like some of the dash covers. I do need to exchange my dash mat because of color (stone interior is not easy to match) but will post picture tonight before I exchange for another color. I will let everyone with stone interior know what matches well color wise once I get it right. The color swatches on the web make proper color match difficult. In addition, it does cut down on the glare issue that people are experiencing. It did wonders to upgrade the interior look, cut glare off dash, and soften the acousics in my last vehicle. The das cover in my edge does cut down on most of the reflection except for the defroster grates where you still get some reflection. The dash cover with a good pair of sunglasses should resolve this issue for everyone. I would stick with the mid to darker colors for better reflection midigation.
12. Have not experienced this problem however, do remember reading in the manual that there is a way to turn this feature off, you may want to double check the manual and it may help???
13. Audiophile system sounds pretty good however, I think an upgrade to aftermarket speakers usually improves the sound. I never like the sound of the tweeters (sound tinny)in sotck speakers however, in the edge they are decent. I plan to upgrade the front (2-way 5"x8"s?) and rears which I have not looked at closely but I think may be the smaller??? When I get around to doing it , I will post my results as I am trying to get some of the more necessary things done before I start on the luxury items!
14. This issue is addressed in the owners manual and is common in many vehicles. Certain vehicles experience extreme buffeting when the windows are opened a certain amount which is unique to each vehicle. The first time I experienced this in my wife's car I thought my eardrums were going to burst! Usually opening the windows a crack usually solves this problem but hinders things for people who like to use there rear windows for this purpose. This is why I loved my motorized vent windows in the rear of my old Villager, as they create great air movement in the vehicle without these issues and it also extended the comfort zone so that I did not need to use A/C until things got really hot and humid. Sounds like an opportunity for an upgrade if any employees are listening? I heard Ford is encouraging this sort of thing these days! This may also prompt some people to opt for a higher trim level?
15. I should re-phrase my discription from my above post, in my previous vehicle, the dash mat helped provide better acoustics in the drivers compartment by absorbing sharp sounds instead of bouncing them off the windshield and dash into your ears! ......much like adding curtains in an empty room. In any event, I will share my impressions on the benefits I obseve concerning light reflection and acoustic benefits experienced after I install in the edge. Hope I wil be able to help those who are experiencing reflections problems and steer new buyers into the correct interior color.
16. I saw all the stuff listed above and can add another useful item....a dash cover. I had one on my last vehicle, due to a slight reflection problem and found that it did wonders for the appearance and helped deaden interior noises as well. I highly recommend going with medium to dark colors to limit reflections. I have the stone interior which does generate a little glare on the dash. Due to the large defrost grille on the dash of the edge (location of most of the glare in my vehicle) I will have to see if that "cut-out" has any benefit on glare reduction. If nothing else it will quiet an already quiet interior. I was surprised to find this available so soon but, was thrilled to find it. I ordered the Dash mat from JC Whitney.com for $41 (Incl. Shipping +tax). The product is available through other vendors however, most did not have the 2007 vehicles updated. Was not sure which color would be best with the stone interior, as it is not easy to match fortunately, there are several colors available other than beige, black and Grey! I should receive next week and can supply a report on fit and finish if there is any interest? Keep the links coming on accessories !!!!as I would like to add some contoured winter mats, etc. So far, have seen only a few including Ford accessories and Husky which looked OK but only available in black(?). I did read a post early on December(?) about one of the better custom mats that should be available the middle of the year? I also will post my driving impressions after a week behind the wheel (and after my 1st fill-up ) to see where my mileage figures are at? This seems to be one of the few areas where owners are not entirely thrilled. I am looking forward to these #'s as well, and don't trust the estimator on the dash yet. In advance of my review, I will say that this vehicle has dramatically changed my perspective on my commute to work! Did anyone else notice that the recommended oil change interval for normal driving conditions is 7,500 Miles !!!!!!! Stay tunned!!! Red fire SEL+ with stone interior with BAMR and 17" wheels
17. Does anyone know which car rental companies are carrying the edge? I rember this coming up in a earlier topic??? I thought it was enterprize however, could not find any listed under vehicle discriptions. I would really like to rent one while on vacatin this Spring (Arizona) so I can get a good handle on how I want to equip my edge when I do place order! Thanks In advance!
18. I read this review and compared it to the Murano, and several other vehicles in this and similar classes and I can't understand how they rated it so low for value in class? The edge lost several overall points due to this but still scored at or near the top in overall points. I guess it will have to prove over time that it is reliable before it receives it dues?
19. I was under the impression that they did use EBD????? Maybe someone can confirm this.
20. Thanks for the confirmation, that rules out that being the cause. I have heard no negative comments on the brakes from new owners, I will stay tuned as people get to drive them more and will see what they say!
21. I have not compared prices on 17" vs 18" tires but I think the 18's are bit more expensive. I would guess that you may detect a slight difference in the ride and maybe handling in the 18" wheels and they sure do fill up the large wheels better! So if styling is your priority I could not argue that point of view. Myself, I am going with the 17's because I prefer the design and I don't think there is a huge difference between the two other than the premium cost added to the 18"s. That's the way I see it, but everyone has their own perspective! I am going to take that extra money and get the BAMR to satisfy my desire to own a convertible.
22. Thanks for the comments !! They are all usefull. I was under the impression that the brakes were not vented on the Edge because they don't list on any spec sheets unless it was one of the "Changes" they made pre-production vehicles ? I was wondering if that minor change accounted for some of the discrepancy between early road tests and owner "tests" that have been coming in lately. To be fair to everyone, I don't think personal road test's reflect rigorous "Track Testing" methods but, I thought if the brakes were not vented and they ran the vehicle "hard" so as to overheat the brakes, that might account for part of the poor stopping distances. I suspect that more likely it is a little bit of all these factors, and your comment on suspension tuning(it is no secret that the vehicle was tuned for ride dynamics over handling) makes a lot of sense.
23. I hate to change the subject but thought it might be good to switch gears for a moment. I am going to hit another nerve(sorry) but for the sake of clarification. I have read all the road test's and personal driving experiences on the Edge and still don't have a good handle on the final word on this topic. I understand that you have a 4,000 lb. + vehicle to start with which puts you at a disadvantage but, a VW Toureg tops out somewhere around 5,000 lbs. + and gets the job done. Are the Edge' s 4-wheel disc-brakes vented? If not, would they make a huge difference under "normal" conditions? Are they the same ones used on the fusion (Much lighter vehicle)? Many pesonal driving accounts stated the brakes seemed fine however, most official track tests showed 60-0 distanances around 150 ft which is not good. There seems to be a big rift between the two accounts? My question is, do they drive these vehicles so hard before testing 60-0 times that they perform poorly (fade) because they overheat them ? If so, track testing would have little bearing in real world conditions unless towing a yacht, NYC cab driver, driving through the continental divide or, racing it on weekends? How does the stability control system influence this, since it has some control over braking pressure on each wheel indepentently? I don't want to stir negative press but, would like someone (with experience) provide clearity to these issues before giving them a bad rap, unless it is warranted.
24. As the lines between SUV's, Wagons, Minivans vanish you end up with something that has the charactoristics of all of them. The EDGE was slated from the start to be a true Crossover vehicle with the best of all worlds but with a specific target market. In my opinion it is a true crossover because it is not a body on frame like a SUV but has more the stature of a SUV than a wagon but some of the better rode manners (ride being one) of a car. Call it what you will , it really has a little part of all of these vehicles which makes it more versitle. I have driven cars, station wagons, minivans and sports cars during over the years and this vehicle has little bit of all of them in one package which makes it very appealing in my eyes however, there are allways some tradeoff between each catagory which I think confuses the heck out of reviewers because they don't know what catagory to grade them in and will allways find some reason why it doesn't live up to all the aspects of the above listed types of vehicles. See some of these review links in Ford Edge MKZ Discussion Forum posted by "SRANGER". Good luck!
25. I have only test driven one for a short drive and the things that stood out the most were the comfort of the front seats and the abiltiy to adjust the steering wheel (tilt and telescope to get just the right driving postion) and the ride. I test drove an SEL with leather however the cloth looked much better than many of the cloth seats I have seen but did not sit in them. As in the reviews, these things stood out in my mind. Oh, and the styling is nice. The interior plastics were not luxury quality but I thought they were nice. I was recently in a Mercury Milan and the interior plastics, dash and seats were almost identical to the edge. I also have to agree with the rear seat being less comfortable because it was low which may be fine for kids but I think they were trying to get more head room at the expensive of overall comfort. I wish they would have put a seperate hinged back window because it is much more convienent than opening the full gate. I did not drive the vehicle agressive enough to test the brakes, as they have been getting raked over the coal in all reviews. One final word on the overall feel of the vehicle was one of comfort. I think that the vehicle was tuned to be less sporty than it could have been. So it depends on what you are used to! I would hope they release a sport version in the near future for the driving enthusists and to match the vehicles looks! I drive a svo mustang in the summer and villager minivan the rest of the year so I am at each extreme and like the edge because it somewhere it between yet much closer to the sportier side of things. So it all depends on what you are looking for? Test drives of the Mazda Cx-7 that I have read raved about the sporty driving manners of that vehicle. But there are some trade offs. It all gets back to what you are looking in a vehicle! You make the Call.
