  1. Then maybe the kits you're using ARE the ones people should be looking for. If other kits don't work, I'd stay away from them as if they were radioactive. A fried SJB would be a disaster.
  2. Kevin, The reason I'm asking about the direct connection is that Ford uses high-side FET (field-effect transistors) to control each headlamp bulb. Solid-state controls like this are usually designed to control resistive loads, such as filament bulbs like halogens. Inductive loads such as ballasts and transformers can destroy solid-state devices if they're not protected by shunt diodes. Maybe those are included in the ballasts you have, since they seem to work. I talked to a Ford electronics engineer who said that the headlamp output in the Edge (and in many Fords using the same Smart Junction Box) is actually a PULSED +12V, not continuous, to help increase halogen headlamp life (and to allow for DRL control by varying the pulse sizes). Pulsed outputs, combined with an inductive load, could spell trouble for the headlamp controls if used directly with cheap aftermarket HID ballasts, or even with relays. Also, inrush current (the current that a load draws when first switched on) may be HIGHER with ballasts, even if the normal operating current is lower. THAT could also destroy the headlamp control FET. But the real thing to worry about here is the Smart Junction Box, since the headlamp control circuits are non-replaceable parts built into it as one box (which controls much of the electronics). If you fry the headlamp outputs, you'll need an entire new SJB, and that could cost almost $1,000. I'm also guessing that Ford could determine the cause of an SJB failure, and deny a warranty claim. Those are just a few things that people should consider here before trying an HID kit. Since I have a lot of experience with FETs and other solid-state controls (and what cheap inductors can do to them), I think I'll pass on aftermarket HID for now, unless I hear something different from that Ford engineer. Just a warning...remember that if you fry your headlamp circuits, you'll need an entire Smart Junction Box to get them working again.
  3. Kevin, Three questions: 1) Do the 6000K bulbs have any kind of physical color on the lamp glass (quartz), or are they totally clear? 2) Have these bulbs caused any discoloration of the chrome "Ford" shield inside the headlamp housings? 3) Do the ballasts seem to get too warm, or even hot? If they really work plug 'n play, I'm interested. Thanks!
  4. We haven't had all that much snow this winter, but when we did have some, my Edge got through it just as easily as the 4WD Escape and two Explorers I had before it. I can't say enough about how much I love my Edge.
  5. Hola, Here are the part numbers for the MKX's exterior chrome door handles, which will also fit the Edge. 8A8Z-7422404-AA (handle, 4 required) 8A8Z-74218B08-AA (solid bezel, 3 required) 8A8Z-74218A14-AA (bezel with key hole, driver side, 1 required) Now you don't need to buy the cheap ebay stick-on handle covers.
  6. Does anyone have the part numbers for those chrome caps? Thanks.
  7. Back on topic... Kevin, which kit did you use for your Mustang? Did you need relays, or did the ballasts plug directly into the current headlamp bulb connectors? Since most new Fords have lamps controlled by solid-state FETs, I'm wondering if an HID kit might have the ability to destroy the headlamp FETs. That would mean a new Smart Junction Box. Thanks.
  8. Welcome aboard! Nice Edge, and nice color!
  9. There is no flasher relay. Almost all of the bulbs in the Edge (and most other Fords) are controlled by the Smart Junction Box. In the Edge, it's located inside the driver-side kick panel. If you're just adding these LEDs (or the stick-on Muth LED mini-mirrors), the circuit is already loaded enough by the existing bulbs. You'd only need to load the circuit if you removed one of the two existing bulbs on each side.
  10. That's not really true. IIRC, the rubber strips that run the length of the side of the roof cover the area normally used by the side roof rails. My guess is that Ford didn't want anyone putting anything on the roof that might interfere with the operation of the BAMR, and I don't blame them.
  11. I just ordered and received the same chrome-insert moldings for my Edge. The color match was spot-on perfect, and the quality is as good as if they were Ford Factory accessories. Sportwing sells them on eBay. I'll get some pictures up after I install them.
  12. Ford did a great job on the Edge's door panel design. No more broken plastic pins. They simply unscrew and pull away.
  13. I have the same charcoal interior, and I didn't notice bad reflections any more than I've noticed reflections from the top of the dash in any other car. I guess I do notice the top of the center stack now that I've read this thread, but the reflection is nothing that bothers me.
  14. Someone described the cargo cover in this thread in the Edmunds MKX forum. If part of this cover really clips onto the rear seat headrests, I wonder what happens if someone hits one of the power seatback fold buttons...
  15. From the Lincoln Accessories site, it looks like this shade is available in three colors: Ebony (part number 7T4Z-7845440-AA) Medium Stone (part number 7T4Z-7845440-AB) Camel (part number 7T4Z-7845440-AC) The 7T4Z prefix is for parts originally designed for the Edge (although they may also fit the MKX depending on the part). MKX parts are usually prefixed with 7A1Z. I'd also be interested in one of these, if I could see how they mount in the Edge's cargo area.
  16. Those look great on your Fusion. I noticed that you also installed chrome door handles (or handle covers). Are they covers, and are they the same handles used on the Edge?
  17. Yes. I'm sorry I wasn't specific. My dealer hasn't been able to locate that Edge anyway, so I put a deposit on a fully-loaded Edge SEL+ (2FMDK49C87BB28460) already in their order system. Hopefully, it will be delivered next week. Thanks again.
  18. How about VIN 2FMDK49C07BA26618? Thanks!
  19. From what I read in another forum (and, as usual, it's only a rumor), the liftgate will have a recessed handle in place of the license plate, and the license plate will move to the bumper. I did hear about the power liftgate option. I wish I could get an answer on the 2008 changes. The fleet site list isn't specific about any of the changes I mentioned.
  20. Does anyone know if the 2008 Edge will have * Blue instrument lighting * A new center stack with the upper-level display (like the 2008 Escape) * A rear-view camera * A cargo area cover * A redesigned liftgate (like the MKX) ? Thanks for any info. I'll wait to order a 2008 if most of these changes are going to take place.
  21. I agree. That's a blue I'd like to see on all new Fords. I'd like to remind Ford about the blue oval.
  22. Will blue instrument lighting be available on 2008 Edge models, and is the center stack being changed for sure? Also, is there any export version of the Edge manufactured with amber rear turn signals, remote fuel doors, or repeater lamps? Thanks!
