We're embarking out our first big trip in ours this coming Friday. Atlanta to Milwaukee. Our traveling machine for the previous 6 years was a '01 Ford F-250 CrewCab 4x4 PowerStroke. It's been a great road tripper, but had zero place to put our suitcases except for out in the open bed.

Since my F-250 has "only" 150,000 miles, it's just a baby (that 7.3L PowerStroke will go forever)and we'll probably switch between it and the Edge for road trips.

I'm pretty excited to get going.

Do all Edges have TPMS, regardless of trim and wheel size? Thinking of getting a set of 19s, just wanted to make sure before I get really serious about it.

it's listed as a standard feature for all models, not an option.

If you have an older owners manual, it claims to be on item in the message center, but it's not (verified with Ford and not in the newer printings of the owners manual). It's just an idiot light.

My take on it... power lift gate is unnecessary (except to shut up the auto magazine reviewers). Voice activated nav would be nice, but I doubt that I'll miss not having it. Chrome Clad wheels suck and these will suck 25% more (if you calculate surface area of the chrome clad side 20" vs. 18"). Sync would be cool, and would like to have it, but I'm not holding my breath on having it available as a retro fit for our '07. Lift gate handle seemed OK to me. I'd have to see the Red seats before I'd judge them, but no way with our Blazing Copper paint.

I've got no regrets on not waiting for an '08, but Sync would have been a cool toy.

Anyone know if you can remove the cladding and what lies beneath? Just wondering if it's the painted wheels or something else under there .

Not sure I understand this comment. Arent the air bags in the dash, in the door and in the head liner. How do seat covers affect this?

There's one on the upper portion on teh outside side of each front seat also. IIRC without looking, it's behind a plastic cover and says Air Bag or SRS on it.

Well I guess I just assumed that they were chrome plated! :wacko: Did not look that close :angry: My Fault again! May just keep a year and buy a rice burner at this rate.

My sales person actually pointed this out to us... We liked the look of the 18" painted wheels anyhow, but I was really surprised to see the Edge in the showroom actually had "loose fitting" chrome cladding on it.. you could actually wiggle them a bit on the wheel... and that pretty much sealed up getting the painted wheels on ours.

I have read in a few spots on this forum that vehicles built before JAN '07(I think) are more prone to problems. Is this true? Did Ford change something with suppliers or design? Whats the deal? How do you find out your build date and what problems are more likely with older ones?

your build month and year are on the sticker between the front and rear drivers door on the lower portion of the B-Pillar.

Dunno about early build date issues.. I've got a March 07 build Edge.

Bryce, The pull is very bad at times when you have a crown but bad enough to be dangerous at all times.

Again even the engineer said it is bad.

I don't want anyone to think I am one of these people who is nit picky and like to complain and I normaly don't but this is just more than I can bare.

I also have other issues I have not even listed here, Like the compass sensor fell off as soon as I left the lot the day I purchased the car , the right rear seat would not let down with the automatic feature, the Vista Roof drive belt is rattling in the roof.

I only had the car for about 4 days,been in the shop since.

I hope no one else has these problems...

ya.. nothing like that kind of pull/drift on ours... ours seems to drive comparable to all ouf our other past and current cars/trucks.

Our only real issue that couldn't be explained away (or minor "just get used to it") was an adjustment to teh BAMR that has seemed to make it work great.

I'm just trying to get a feel for the issue you are having... is it drifint/pulling to one side all the time ir just under acceleration?

Around here, the roads are so damn crowned that I've never had a vehicle that didn't drift to the right eventually (unless I was in the left lane on a multilane divided road, then it drifeted left). I'm taking a trip through fly over country in a few weeks, so I'll try to pay more attention to it then.

I've also noticed that our Edge has a little bit of Troque Steer when you really get on it... it's been a while since I had a FWD vehicle and forgot about this until I floored a few of the cars I had been testing. The torque steer is noting compared to my old '81 Honda Prelude (my last FWD car).

let's not forget that power needed to go faster is the cube of the speed desired to go faster (over simplified function that doesn't take everything into it, but gives you a rough estimate)

for example if you want to go 66mph and you were going 60mph, it would take about 33% more power.

1+percent change power = (1+percent change in speed)^3

1+ percent change in power = (1+ 0.10) = 1.331

If the Edge was "my" vehicle and not my wife's, I'd run out and get one. I had one in my old Ranger SuperCab and used it all the time. Not only did it hide my junk and make my truck look cleaner, but it also was a nice shelf for light items (jacket, maps, etc) right behind me. My wife had one in her last vehicle along with a cargo net and they collected dust in the garage.

I'd love to see a picture of it though.

We sorta got vanity plates for our Edge. No word/number combination to make a cute word or something.. ours is more geeky. In Georgia, you can save $20 on your annual registration fees if you are a licensed ametuer radio operator and they make plates with your FCC call sign (I guess they figure you are doing a good public service). So, we'll be getting KG4MTT on the Edge and I have had KG4LJS on my truck for a few years. The plates kinda look like the ones on government vehicles, so maybe they help keep the police off you too.

And no, we won't be putting an antenna farm on the top of the Edge.... the vista roof wouldn't be a good plane anyhow

We got these and then got the Husky Liners without ever using these. The box is open, but it was only to make sure that the correct item was in it.

They are the same ones that you could have ordered with your Edge... but are a $79+S/H option afterwards.

The other liners came unfolded (well, the 2nd seat was folded in half). The front drivers looks a little off on the door sill, but it too has "melted" into place in the heat.

Bryce, Has the cargo liner formed more to the floor? It looks like not a perfect fit. I remember you saying that they came rolled up and was wondering if it has flattened out any since your original pics.

Yep.. it fits like a glove to the sides and to the rear of the 2nd row seats. In back, it's taller than the door sill to keep stuff contained in it, but the parts that touch fit perfect. A few days of 90+ Georgia weather took care of it.

What about the 3M clear hood protector? If it works on hoods it should work on bumpers.

My wife actually owns a sign shop, so we have access to this type of material and more... but the vinyl sheeting, IMHO, is not protective enough. Its just too thin. I'm looking for something more of a rubberized type of material with maybe a anti-slip texture.

I just can't stand the thought of the bumper getting all scratched up.

What did the full set cost you? The rear cargo area looks great, but would like to keep atleast the front seats looking a bit less "industrial". The one in the back seat didn't look too bad as it is way less visible than the front. I have been told that thses are absolutely necessary with kids. We have a 2 week old who hasn't began making messes yet, but I can only imagine what to expect.

$213 and change shipped from Autoanything.com You have to call them to order all the parts though.. they don't have the 2nd seat liner on their web page (unless they've updated it). This ship direct from the factory in Kansas.

Between these and leather seats, my 6yo truck looks almost new... We've got 2 kids (9yo and 4yo) and they get plenty dirty with Baseball and Motocross.

I don't see voice commands. I think what you are seeing is the adjustments for voice directions. If that is not so, where are you seeing voice commands?

same here.. I could not find voice command settings. I did see in a little quick start guide that came with the Nav system that it has these "if available"

Tracking shows that our Husky Liners will be in today. Husky liners don't use velcro to stay put. They have pointy plastic nibs on the bottoms (think that plastic carpet runner stuff) that hold it in place. After 6 years in my F-250 (front and real seat liners) and in our old Montero Sport (6 years for it with front and rear seat and cargo liners), all I have to do is vacuum it out and the marks from the nibs go a away and my carpets look like new.

 

I'll post some pictures of them today or tomorrow after I get them put in.

Here's a link to the pictures of my Husky Liners.... but I was incorrect about the nibs on the cargo liner.. this one doesn't have them. Still fits well and doesn't seem to move around.

Our Husky Liners showed up this afternoon... I've had these in 4 or 5 other vehicles so far, so I pretty much knew what to expect. The fronts fit great and were pretty easy to put in. The rear seat was a pain to put in, but fits well and should protect the floor from the kids. The Cargo liner will fit perfect after it flattens out (it comes rolled up). I was a bit disappointed in the cargo liner... it fits great and will protect well, but doesn't have the little nibs on the bottom to keep it from moving like the ones for the seats. It should be OK though becasue of the way it's shaped and fits to teh contours of the cargo area, I don't think it'll move around.

It may be an aquired taste for these in the Edge, as it give the interior more of an "industrial" look without the carpet showing.

Sit in the front seat, lock all the doors, then open the door without hitting the unlock button. The door opens even though it's locked. If you do this with the perimeter alarm on it will set off the alarm. Happens all the time when you lock the kids in the car outside a store and they decide to come inside later.

 

If you're outside the vehicle, you can reach inside the vehicle through an open window or break the window and use the manual unlock button (or just use the door handle as evidenced above) OR they could use a tool to manually force the lock open (a flat bar e.g.).

 

Similarly the hood or trunk could be forced open by cutting or using a pry bar.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong here.... how do you set the alarm? The fusion manaul says to press the lock function on the ITK and 20 seconds later it's armed.

I rolled down the window, got out, shut the door, locked it with the ITK and left for 10+ minutes. Came back, reached inside, grabbed the inside door opener handle, opened the door, got in, started it up and drove off.

No horn, siren, immobilization... just a normal car.

Anyhow... if someone is brave enough to break out a window or pry a door/hood/hatch open, they probably won't give a crap about a horn honking either... I think the general public just ignores car alarms now days, too.

Triggering the anti-theft system

The armed system will be triggered if:

• Any door, the hood or the trunk is opened without using the door key

or the remote entry transmitter portion of your IKT.

• The ignition is turned to the 3 (ON) position with an invalid

SecuriLock key.

While I'll agree that the manuals are not perfect (see my Message Center/TPMS issue), and I see the non SecuriLock Key doing something (I think the manual actually says it immobilizes the vehicle), I'm sitting here scratching my head trying to figure out how that you open a locked door without the key or remote... actually, I can think of lots of ways, but something that would be easier/quicker/less conspicuous than breaking a window.

Factory alarm is standard but it only goes off if the door are opened. Smashing the glass and taking stuff won't set it off.

without making any accusations, do you have a source for this that says how it works... I looked at the manual online and the ford site and couldn't find any info on a standard factory alarm. I did find this... Ford Accessories alarm system
