OK.. here's my final post on the subject.. we got our answer today and I'm for the most part satisfied.

first thing is that we've been getting old manuals. If you look at the manual at this link

Ford Edge Owners Manual

on page 102, you'll see that TPMS has indeed been removed from the System Check on the Message Center. the order it should display is thus...

1. DOORS CLOSED

2. ENGINE TEMPERATURE

3. OIL PRESSURE

4. BRAKE FLUID LEVEL

5. WASHER FLUID LEVEL

6. FUEL LEVEL

7. DISTANCE TO EMPTY

This corresponds to what ours does display.

Now as to how it works... the tech dropped out 10lbs of air in out tires and then didn't see anything... he asked around the shop and confirmed that it needed to be rolling to work. A quick spin around the lot (2/10 of a mile maybe) was enough to trip the light on the dash.

I wish I had seen that manual earlier and saved myself some trouble. I had been looking at teh one that came with our Edge and the one at MyFordEdge.com and both are out of date.

I picked up my new Edge SEL+ on Saturday and I remember what it's like to enjoy driving again!! My new Dark Amethyst Metallic baby was hard to find. I live in Southwestern IN but my dealership had to go to northern Mississippi to find it!! I love my Vista Roof, 18" chrome wheels, and audiofile system.

 

Question: I'm looking for a good cargo liner (I have four dogs) and have read the posts about various products but wondered if anyone has found that the velcro fasteners damage the carpet (this is my hesitation in buying a liner)? I'm looking at a liner that covers the back of the 2nd row and even accommodates the 60/40 split. (http://www.autosportcatalog.com/index.cfm?fa=p&pid=238&addcar=1). Any thoughts/feedback?

Tracking shows that our Husky Liners will be in today. Husky liners don't use velcro to stay put. They have pointy plastic nibs on the bottoms (think that plastic carpet runner stuff) that hold it in place. After 6 years in my F-250 (front and real seat liners) and in our old Montero Sport (6 years for it with front and rear seat and cargo liners), all I have to do is vacuum it out and the marks from the nibs go a away and my carpets look like new.

I'll post some pictures of them today or tomorrow after I get them put in.

Ok!!! Took the edge back to Ford with 90 miles on it. They hooked it up and could not fiqure out how to make the system check show tire preasure. They checked to see if it was working and their computer said all was ok. ( I will let some air out to confirm that this weekend ) The tech walked around the lot and tried several other Edges and same result, none showed up in the system check. They are getting in touch with Ford tech services and will call me when they have an answer. On the brighter side and another subject they activated my DLR's ( Day Time Running Lights ) at no cost and they work great. Another insurance deduction. :shades:

Well.. ours is at Dealer #2 as we speak... we talked to the service manager their and they said that what we did should have been more than enough to trip the idiot light.... I'd be happy if they could just tell me that it was working (by verifying it with a computer test), but Dealer #1 couldn't/wouldn't do test it.

If it isn't working as designed, I'm more confident that this dealer's service department can make it work... if it is working, I go back to my feeling that it's no more than a "fell good" item that I can't trust.

On our Edge Sel Plus we have Continental "Cross Contact" 245x60x18 M&S. Those are on the factory chrome rims.

same for us, but on 18" painted aluminum wheels.

I wanted the tow package for everything it added. We'll never tow a thing with it, I dirve a Tundra. But I liked the addition heat protection items etc...

I've got a F-250 CrewCab PowerStroke 4x4 for when we want to tow stuff, but the extras that the tow package added seemed to be worth it to me.

As for being "really quite disappointed with the overall Ford experience" I'd think that was the dealers fault... did you order your Edge or was it out of dealer stock? How'd they miss getting you one with the options you specified? If it didn't have what you wanted, I'd have told the dealer that they were stuck with it and that they could find/order me what I wanted. We bought our Edge from one dealer, but it actually came from a dealer across town because of what we wanted on it.

When I make music CDs in itunes, I just select the "audio CD" format in the preferences for burning. I start with protected ACC songs I purchased from itunes and it always comes out playing just fine in the car CD player.

That makes it a Music CD (like a store bought) format, not a Data CD with .mp3 files, dosn't it? So you only get 10-20 tracks, not 200+

OK... I'm beginning to think that TPMS is a joke and we're better off kicking the tires to see if they have air than relying on this system to help any.

NHTSA published the third attempt at a TPMS Final Rule on Thursday, April 7, 2005. The news isn’t good. NHTSA did not take TIA comments into account on behalf of the tire industry. The trigger threshold is still 25% underinflation. AND if that’s not bad enough, NHTSA moved backwards on the timing of the trigger. Originally the dashboard indicator had to light up within 10 minutes of sensing an underinflated tire. In this latest version of the final rule, the telltale doesn’t have to illuminate for 20 minutes. The phase-in has changed slightly: 20% of all new cars must comply by Sept. 1 of 2005, 70% by Sept. 1, 2006 and 100% by Sept.1 of 2007. NHTSA did not address RMA’s petion on reserve inflation pressure although they indicated they will in a separate rulemaking. Also, NHTSA would like TPMSs to work after tires and/or wheels are replaced. There will be a separate dashboard light indicating that the TPMS sensor is not working if a tire/wheel combination has been placed on the vehicle that renders the system inoperable.

So... you have to loose more than 25% of the tires pressure, drive for 20 minutes and also go between 30 and 60mph for that 20 minutes. (found by reading the entire ruling). So, the Government has made some pretty loose rules for the Manufacturers to give us a "feel good" system that really wouldn't do much.

I did go back and let our Edge sit with the ignition on (engine off) and less than 10psi in a tire and got no results. Since the service writer at dealer #2 said to bring it in, we will and let them check on it. Maybe it's working (as designed) and maybe it's not, and they offered to look, so I'll let them.

Lower the pressure in one of the tires and see if you get a warning.

Well.. Dealer #1 (the one we got the Edge from) said that it's not supposed to show up on the Message Center, and that they called ford about it. We called Ford the next day and they were little help except to tell us to call another dealer and see what they said. We called dealer #2 today (I've used them before... crappy sales but good service) and they also suggested that we let out pressure from the tire to see what it did, and if we got no light to bring it in to them and they'd look at it.

So, this evening when I got home, I had my wife sit in the Edge with the motor running as I let air out of the tire and would sometimes check to see where I was at. my guage quit reading below 10psi, but I went from 35psi to below 10psi and never got a light on the dash or a message in the message center.

Right now, I'm pretty much certain that it's not working on our Edge. My Wife's going to try to get in at dealer #2 this week to see if they can verify that it's working or not.

If that didn't trip it, then I'm not sure what would have. I saw some posts that it would take 20 minutes before it would set it off.. if that true, then TPMS is just about worthless. a hell of a lot could happen in 20 minutes fo running a tire under inflated.

While I'm sure that these offer some protection, they are only good if the door of the offending vehicle actually hits them... that seems to take a bit of luck. On my 6yo F-250, I have the factory door moldings, and they don't have a scratch or mark on them... but under and over them my, body work has a few dings.

In fact, look at the rear doors on our Edge's... there's a good chance that the rear of the back door that sticks out the most would miss the molding installed on another Edge (as shown on the sportwing site) and put a good ding in it.

Your system should read WMA and Mp3 files, it's the AAC files it does not like. But then that's why Ford gave you an iPod jack in your center arm rest storage bin....

I haven't actually tried it yet, but according to page 37 of the owners manual

While various

files may be present, (files with

extensions other than mp3), only

files with the .mp3 extension will be

played.

But the owners manual isn't always accurate.

Looks like Ford must have decided to save a few pennies on a plastic fastener on the driver's front inner fender. Look at the pictures... one had a fasterner (passenger side) and the other doesn't (driver side) where I'm pointing.

We checked out a few outers on the lot and none had one in this location. There's a hole in the plastic, but no hole in the metal behind it. I felt around behind the plastic and had the dealer check on it with out other issues today.

We had our Edge at teh dealer for some assorted minor issues today and had them look at the Vista Roof... they made some sort of adjustment to the right side track. About 2.3hr labor according to the invoice for pull the head liner and fix the track. Seems to be way more quiet now (almost silent) and a bit quicker opening and closing.

The dealer did something about 1 out of 4 of our concerns.

When I scroll through my options on the dash under check system, it DOES show up and tells me "tire preessure OK." I would question if it is missing or not.

Hmmmmm... well, we had ours at eth edealer today to look at this and some other issues. According to them, they called Ford and it shouldn't be showing up in teh Message Center, jsut the Idiot Light as someone else said somewhere. We looked at another Edge on the lot and it did not show up either. We're going to call Ford in the moring to see what the deal is withe the the owners manual and I guess that may be our final answer (unless they say it should show up).

Had our Edge in the shop for a few things today, and they said it was normal... maybe for this vehicle, but no others that I've owned (including my current 2 other Fords). Guess we'll just have to get used to it. Since this transmission was a joint venture with GM and Ford, I'll just assume that GM made the Park mechinism!!!

Picked up my new Edge SEL Plus yeterday ( Carbon/Charcoal ) and have a question? In the manual on page 100 under system checks it says that item three in the sequence is tire pressure system. I do not see it. It goes from eng. temp#2 to oil pressure #4 Tire pressure is missing. Is it a mistake in the manual or is it broken? I do see the little tire logo on the dash when the key is first turned on. Any ideas out there. Thanks

We're taking ours in tomorrw for a few things (slow/stalling vista roof, rolling slightly in park) and this is one of them. Someone poseted that there is a FSA in OASIS that said some were delivered without this being enabled. It's a standard feature, so it is supposed to be on your Edge.

I'll post again when we get ours back. I figure were going to get a lot of "could not repeat custome concern" reports on our issues, but at least it'll be logged and when we're 10 miles out or warranty and it breaks, we'll have a leg to stand on.

I did a little more "scientific" approach on how cold the A/C blows in our Edge. I've got an infrared temperature gun that will give you surface temperatures.

Here's what I found...

Outside Air temp (from the Climate control display) - 93*

Surface temp of drivers door - 92.5* (the climate control was pretty acurate on that then)

Outside center of BAMR - 119*

Rear Window - 111*

Back Seats - 84.5*

Front Seat - 84*

Inside Center of BAMR - 115*

These werre taken with the car parked and turned off for 10 minutes after about an hour drive with A/C set at 60*.

After 1 minute of idleing with the A/C set at 60* and recirculating the temperature inside the vents was at 56*

After 5 minute of idleing with the A/C set at 60* and recirculating the temperature inside the vents was at 40*

Not sure on the time, but I actually had the temps drop as low as 32* inside the vents.

The temp on the inside of the BAMR didn't change noticably after 5 minutes of A/C (maybe a degree), but all the seats dropped at least 10* and were getting colder quickly... this was with the BAMR closed, but the shade open in direct sun at 2PM in Georgia. Outside temps stayed the same.

Honestly, I thought the A/C did a great job on this vehicle before I tested it... I only bothered to test it becasue of this thread. I'm pretty satisfied with my results.

As a comparison, my 6yo F-250 CrewCab Diesel had the vents at 63* after 5 minutes of idling (down from 95.5* after 1 minute) but was still dropping.

Mix some alcohol and water 50/50 solution and LIGHTY spray antistatic cloth and clean with that. That is what those wipes are and such, but much cheaper to make it yourself. :yup:

Make sure that you spray the cloth (as amandashook said) and not the screen itself. The spray can get between the LCD and the trim and get into the electronics behind it. I killed a nice PC monitor back in the early 90's when they used to be expensive by spraying the screen with cleaner.

I ordered a complete set this afternoon and they are on their way. $214 for the 2 fronts, back seat and cargo liners. THis is my 5th vehicle with these in them All but my Bronco II (it was well used when I got it) look(ed) like they have new carpets when you pull these out to clean them.

I'll try to get some pictures when they come in.

We have right at 700 miles on ours now... I got 20.3mpg (Message Center and calculated) with 270 miles of Atlanta rush hour type interstate traffic... my trip is 36 miles each way, and I'd guess that I get a good 10-12 miles of speed limit travel and the rest is stop and go. If it only gets better from here as they claim, I'm very happy with ours. I did do a shorter trip (about 70 miles) of freeway speeds and got 24.7mpg according to the Message Center.

If anyone is not sure if their TPMS is operating correctly you should contact your dealership's service department and ask them to check your VIN. Ford issued a FSA on 6/1/07 for Edges and MKXs manufactured between 9/15/06 and 5/7/07. The FSA states that certain vehicles were delivered with the TPMS inoperable. If you have an affected vehicle the dealership can turn the system on quickly and at no cost. If you have a vehicle that falls under this FSA the dealership will know by simply running an 'OASIS' on your car. They will probably be happy to do this for you over the phone - just have your VIN handy.

I'll see if I can't give them a call tomorrow... I have the light for this on my dash and it lights up during the "pre-flight" check and listed on my window sticker, but it's missing from my Message Center system check.

yes, all of my other auto matics will move a bit (maybe an inch or so), but this one actually moved enough to have a door hit someone getting out when it happened. it did stop without the parking brake being applied. I normally put my parking brake on, as I drove mostly maunal transmission vehicles until my last 2 before the edge... I wasn't driving this time, it was my wife, and she doesn't always put ont eh parking brake.

It just seemed to move more than my F-250 or my Bronco II would in the same situation.

I will get the dealer to check it out and at least document it when we have them look at some other stuff at the next service.

Engine shut down this afternoon while driving about 35 MPH on a residential street. Warning lights came on and engine had shutdown. After car came to a stop I put it in park, turned the key off and restarted the car, put it in drive and went on home just like nothing had happened. I consider this a major problem. Will take it to Ford dealer tomorrow to have it checked out.

I'd consider it a major issue also.. since it's for sure still under warranty, just let the dealer "deal" with it. Not sure if these have a Cam Position Sensor (CPS), but I had one of those go out on my truck and it would do this... real fun trying to slow down a 7200lbs truck in traffic with no power assist for brakes or steering.

Ours seems to roll a few inches when parked on an incline (up or down). Seems a little bit more noticeable than other automatics that we've owned. It's not a major issue with me (more of an annoyance) since I always put the parking brake on anyhow. I'll have the dealer look at it when I get it serviced, but I was wondering if anyone else was having similar issues?

Silicone spray lube did the trick. Much faster, no pauses when closing other than the preset ones, quiter too. I took the silicone spray and got the tracks real good with the BAMR open and then put a "straw" attachment on the nozzle and injsected into the tracks behind the BAMR with it closed. had a bit of an odor at first, but that went away and all is well now.

Our edge has a build date in February (similar to Zeus's Edge), so maybe they had an issue with lubing the roof around then. There was some lube in the tracks, but it didn't look like it had a goodcoat.. like they dabbed a bit in a few places instead of lubing the entire run.
