Welcome to MyFordTouch!!!
I used to pull a fuse to get the system to reboot. Look in the menus for the option to do a similar reset.
You might also make sure you have the latest version. Ford recently released a new version for our version of MyFordTouch

Apple maps opened ok for me when I asked Siri for directions to home. Apple wants you to stay with it's maps and other apps.
There used to be a feature where you could ask Siri for directions via transit and she would open google maps. Looks like Apple has squashed that Easter egg.
-
I was glad to see Ford released an update that allows me to go around it's crappy MyFord touch interface and go directly to SIRI!
THANK YOU FORD!
The past few months I have been car shopping. I see where Ford has a few new versions of sync. As far as I can tell, Ford is confused about the direction they should go. Is Sync 3 actually based on blackberry?? WTF
I also noticed a press release that promised more support for Car Play will be coming. This is the same type of crap I heard 6yrs ago when they said my Edge's MFT would get Applink. (I guess they finally did it in Sync 3)Well, This confused tech direction is keeping me out of the Ford show rooms. The GMC looks pretty interesting since it has CarPlay.

I frequently have the issue with the car not thinking it is in Park. When that happens, I have to restart car and slam the shifter into park. I am thinking it must be a worn out switch.
What did they do to fix your issue? Was it expensive?
-
I have had this issue a few times over the years. This prompted me to put a new battery into my fob at least once.
Other times I have found that I would have to get out of car, close door then re-enter to get the car to see my fob.
Are you aware that you can place the key fob in an area of the center console when the fob stops being recognized by the car? It will allow you to start the car. It's a back up for when the battery dies in your fob.

There are so many flavors of software out there now.
Website shows my 2011 Edge as having Gen2 V3.6.2 from 2013
My wife's 2015 Escape is Gen2 V3.7.11 from Oct 2014
(Yes. we did get our Edge's at about the same time. I think you helped me locate the train my car was on)

Hi. It's been 5yrs for me too.
Have you tried moving the shift lever around? Could it be that the lever is not operating the switch to tell the camera that you are in reverse?
I mention this because my shift lever sometimes doesn't realize I put the car in Park. (The MFT complains about leaving the car when not in park)Regardless, i would take it in to see what the issue is. It may be covered

Hey. I just noticed I have 2 warning points
Wonder what tha I s that all about? I bet it's because I disagreed with the wrong person

I have taken a minute to think about this forum and have decided that it is not a true forum for people to give their point of view of things automotive if it goes against a few key members opinions in this forum.
This is the only automotive forums I have posted in where a moderator just make opinions about what they feel is correct and solve the problem by closing a thread if someone does not comply or accept their way of seeing things.
Yes, arguments happen when people see things differently, but when a moderator have to use their power to "win" an argument that they started tells a lot about that person.
Apparently, this forum is not for me to post new views so I will not post any information, since it goes against the grain of a few individuals who apparently know everything automotive.
FYI, no information is 100% percent correct, therefore I know that some of my comments were not 100% accurate(is anyone really?),but still gives the basic point or ideal.
I am officially just a lurker here.
Well put! I quit coming because of the know it all moderator.

I noticed the fix for the broken GPS they put in place. They simply removed the GPS icon with the X through it.
Yesterday, My GPS was way out of sync. It had me driving SIDEWAYS a mile from my location.
There was no icon showing that the GPS was not working. -
Just for grins, I went into the network setup and was able to connect Sync to my garage's WiFi. I then set my Edge to be an access point and was able to connect to my Edge with my phone. Wow....wait. When I tried to surf the internet on my phone, I had no internet access.
Why is Ford retaining this useless feature of WiFi? -
I had the TSB for the transmission done a few years ago and the symptoms have returned.
Thinking it had something to do with the programming, I decided to try driving in manual mode. Forcing late up-shifts and early down-shifts. i did this for a couple of short commutes.
Call me crazy but I think the issue is resolved...for now
Smooth shifts and no CLUNKS.
Try it and see if it helps you.

Back in 2010 & 2011, I voiced my opinion that I felt Ford had decieved me with their bogus marketing claims. I was promptly chatissed by the Ford Fan Boys on this forum. I was told I should not speak my mind unless I agreed with the Fan Boy(s).
Well, a few years have past and several more people purchased Fords with MFT. Now there is a Class action law suit. The law suit alleges that MyFord Touch "has been an unmitigated disaster for Ford" and accuses the company of "unfair, deceptive, and/or fraudulent business practices" and "failure to disclose defects in the MyFord Touch system" that led auto owners to "[suffer] losses in money and/or property."
Exactly what I was saying 3 years ago!!

The point I tried to make in the initial post..
I was not alone in my feelings of being decieved with the intial claims by Ford.
The moderator of this forum argues with me for reasons that escape me. That is why I have not been visiting this AD SUPPORTED forum on a regular basis.

The phrase "hands on the wheel and eyes on the road" does not apply to My Ford Touch systems.
I still scare myself sometimes when I think about how much time my focus is on the MFT and trying to get it to work while driving.
I think that texting while driving is safer than trying to control MFT while driving.
...and don't tell me I should use voice control. It does not work for me. (first version worked better than this 3.5.1)
-
It's not childish or unprofessional (not that professionalism is a requirement here). You're complaining about features that the vast majority of MFT owners don't use or care about.
It sounds like you bought a $30K+ vehicle just because it could display contact photos and read text messages. Why is this such a deal breaker?
How can you be so informed and opinionated on the MFT? Are you an owner of a vehichle with MFT?
I DID select the $40k Edge because of the promised tech. That is why it is such a deal breaker.
-
Yeah I discovered that a while back when I tried to experiment with it. The bigger question is does having a wifi connection provide any useful functionality whatsoever??? It's not like Ford is ever going to provide a web browser like was promised when I bought my vehicle 28 months ago. One might think if Ford is intent on simplifying by stripping away features, why wouldn't they start with this?
I agree. I actually came across the WiFi feature again the other day. I tried to connect to my home network but it would not let me key in the passcode (it would only take numeric entries). I think it was because it didn't support the modern WiFi protocols.
If Ford is actually listening to owners to determine the what features to trim down (like GPS coordinates) then why haven't they removed this useless and confusing feature?
-
Common Sense as in it's common sense that MOST vehicle navigation users do not use latitude/longitude coordinates for navigation. They use a street address. It's not a commonly used feature and features that aren't commonly used get removed all the time in regular software.
I'm not saying it's not a useful feature - for the few that use it. But it's certainly not something that the vast majority of users will miss. By taking it out, it simplifies the code and reduces the amount of testing required for each release. Again - this is SOP for software development.
I'm not sure how taking coordinates out simplifies anything. The lowest level of communicating with Nav is at the coordinate level. Give nav a street address and the system has to convert it to coordinates before it locates the spot on the map.
-
Another reson for seperate import to complete an incomplete data field.
Just like the address in phone contacts that does not fully work for a nav destination. The option is there in MFT but the blaim of "phone dependant feature" is the fail safe for it not working. I thought I read the USA part of the address in apple is what makes it not work. SO a SOP in software code- write a script to allow the needed fields & iqnore the rest. Or have the option to edit the fields to shift it over. This occurs oustde of software ...for example basic Excel skills can combine or blow out characters so they appear in the correct row/columns dispite the source not being in the correct sectors. Electronic submissons of fininacial data., wire transfers, by different sourcers always needs tweaking to have each system send & receive correctly. We expect Ford to put same effort. Every master reset blows out the nav. data. & ford has no backup. They then say the data from the phone that is sitting there is non usable. They need more IT resources & smarter resources to achieve a more robust intergration.
Great points Dr.
We can't use coordinates to nav because it wasn't popular or it was too complex. We can't seem to get street addresses from phone book to work either.
Ford is just in over their head on this and are hoping MFT will just go away.

MFT supports contact photos. It has been demonstrated to work with at least one new phone (by Wilson or wlepse - can't remember exactly but it was a new Windows phone) which proves that MFT supports that feature in its bluetooth implementation. But the phone also has to support it and Ford has NO control over that part. It takes two to tango.
Right. I did get a windows phone to work. I wonder what percentage of MFT owners have Windows phones. I bet it is a small minority.
Getting one phone to work with MFT and then marketing MFT as if the features were wide spread supported is not ethical.
Maybe Ford decided that most people didn't want the contact photos and abandoned the feature.
-
I can't believe you're still dinging Ford because YOUR cellphone provider chose not to support those profiles/features. Those features are available in MFT. Ford can't force cellphone providers to support it.
I can't believe you are still arguing with MFT owners.
-
If it was buggy then it will probably be back in the next update (like the outside temperature). If they chose to delete it because it wasn't in high demand then it probably won't.
How does Ford know if the feature was or wasn't in high demand?
-
I had my 3.5.1 installed the other day.
This version sounded promising. With people saying that dealerships had to install it before any new car left the lot. It must fix several issues... right?
Before I took it in, I did a Master Reset.
After I picked it up, I did another Master Reset.
3.5.1 Master Reset seems to be a more hard core than previous versions. The system actually reboots and does the "performing maintenance...". I actually was concerned that I had bricked my system because the it took several minutes to come back to life. I wonder if the Reset will perform this way the next time or is this just a symptom of the first reset after the update.
I'm told that my BT call quality is much better but I will test again while driving.
I still have trouble with the voice recognition.
Connection with phone seems to be quicker and BT Audio seems to start up quicker...however,
I had one instance of the random source selection. It started playing BT Audio then switched to FM for some reason.
When I ordered this car in 2010, Ford was advertising all of the cool features of MFT. Among those features still not working are...
Contact photos
Text to speech
and where the heck is applink? It's been nearly 3 years since Ford teased me with that feature
-
Thank you for responding, rwolson...your comment is appreciated despite the patronizing tone.
rwolson is right (and I don't think he was trying to be patronizing). So many of us owners have hashed and re-hashed all of the MFT issues.
There is a great deal of info on this forum if you take your time and look around.
Sync 3 adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Support
in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Posted
I will believe these claims of CarPlay or other features when I see it on the showroom floor.
I'm still jaded from the promises released 6yrs ago. MFT was supposed to get app link...I'm still waiting.
Yeah. I know they changed the software to Sync 3 and all that but I still don't trust the Ford marketing claims. I feel they are just saying buzz words to get in the press.
In the meantime, I'm shopping GM and/or Chrysler.
