  1. You can do the 2.11 upgrade at home with a usb thumb drive.. You download through sync my ride.... It is really simple. You plug it in the computer download the file to it go out in your car start it and insert usb drive in usb port and wait for it to be completely done. Once completely done shut off car bring in thumb drive and plug into computer. Sync my ride confirms everything downloaded correctly.

If you don't have 2.7 or above, you can't do the 2.11 update yourself.

  2. I think you have to be at least on 2.7 to do it - at least that is what I remember the rep on fb telling me. I am still waiting till the 3.0 comes out and will have the dealership do it all themselves. No reason for me to mess mine up now.

Good idea. No need to go to 2.11 now. You seem to have had very good luck with your system.

  3. That is incorrect. Where have I ever said that? I've quite clearly stated in many posts that mine is my daily driver and has been since I bought it last October, and I still have had no, zero, nada, zilch problems with MFT. And I do have Nav though that is used rarely, as being a daily driver, I usually know where I'm going LOL.

Anyway, this is the new guys "welcome" post - why do so many naysayers have to jump in to piss in his corn flakes? There are other forums and many many posts exclusively for complaints, or even bitching and whining LOL. Those few who seem to want to turn just about every post on here lately into a bitchfest really is starting to take away from this forum. You got problems? I sincerly hope you get it fixed with the new update, if not, keep bitching at Ford - at this point, on here, you're only hurting your point, not helping it.

Back on topic, congrats again to CaptKirk on the new ride and enjoy! :)

The negative posts would not be so prevalent if the moderator would not argue with the posters.

The arguments over opinions are uncalled for and only prolong the discussion.

  4. I contacted Ford Customer Service about the upgrade and they would not provide any details on when we would be receiving the update. However, they did inform me that my system would require 2.11 in order for the upgrade to work. I had to take my Edge to the dealership and have them install 2.11. I know they are advertising the fact that the new update will not require a dealer install but the vast majority of people don't have 2.11 and, as a result, will be required to go to the dealership to get the update before installing the new one (3.0?). Kind of defeats the purpose and I feel like this is another example of Ford not being completely honest with their customers.

    3.0 better be amazing!

Very interesting. 2.11 is required to install the new version?

Bring it on! I have the 2.11 "pig" installed

Currently, to self install an update you have to be on (I think) 2.7.

  5. I'd like to have a fixed MFT. It's been a year and a half and I'm still stuck with this POS.

I'd like to have a forum where opinions are excepted for what they are.

...A forum where posts are not deleted if the moderator does not share the opinion.

I'd like to be able to participate in a forum where the moderator does not feel compelled to argue with me.

I think the first item on this list is more likely to happen than the rest.

  6. It's only a few people who have had really bad experiences. Hopefully this won't be an issue after the upgrade.

    Define "only a few"

Many have backed off from posting issues here due to being threatened by the "moderator".

and..let's not forget the posts that are deleted if they don't share the "moderator's" point of view.

  7. I'm planning on adding some lighting to the glove compartment as well as adding a light directly into my liftgate door. I'm going to be doing this within the next couple of weeks and will post videos of both installs. I'll post a reply here when it's completed.

    Great!

I wasn't too interested in the puddle lamp upgrades but the console & liftgate sounds interesting.

    Thanks for posting!

  8. iPhone 4S Sprint here and contact photos never worked. Didn't expect them to based on Ford's documentation. BT pairing and phone quality though has been a non-issue for me. Pairs every time and call quality is reported to be acceptable. One note about pairing, for what it's worth. When I first got the 4S, I experienced a few issues getting the phone to pair with Sync. After troubleshooting, I found that if WiFi was on and was connected to a signal, BT pairing did not work. I started making sure I had WiFi off when in the Edge, and my 4S pairs every time without fail :shift:

    Really?

I'm not willing to turn my WiFi off.

The phone pairs with no problem but the BT Audio his my problem child.

  9. Just got the iPhone 4s from Sprint.

I have my contacts through Gmail.

I synced to my iPhone and see my contact photos on my phone.

    I paired to MFT successfully.

Contact photos not showing up on MFT.

My understanding was the iPhone 4s supported contact photos.

Did I miss any steps to make this work?

Has anyone got this to work?

Contact photos do not work from the iPhone 3, 4, or 4s

Ford's document listing the supported features for various phones could be misleading.

They say iPhone 4 supports contact photos. They never worked for me when I had iPhone 4 on iOS 4.2.1.

  10. I've asked you not to ridicule other people's statements and opinions about MFT. It's just plain nasty and totally not necessary. Everyone (including you) is entitled to their own opinions and experiences even if you don't like them.

WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?

I enjoyed the comment. and thanked him for it.

By the way, stop ridiculing my statements.

This is another example of you trying to put a negative spin on what I am posting.

  11. I just purchased a new 2012. I have been reading about the Touch issues for years here on the Edge Forums. I did not hesitate on the new Edge mainly because, I know a fix is looming. Sure it may not be perfect... but if a fix is pending.... I will risk it.

I tried the 2012 Audi with MMI and the Wife has a 2010 Honda CRV with Nav... in my opinion Sync still BLOWS away at least those two options... buggy or not.

    Rayo

Careful! Sync and My FordTouch are two separate platforms. Sync works great and has the Apps Link feature. MFT is the buggy one.

  12. Seriously? Show me one post where I or anyone else has tried to sweep this under the rug or say that there weren't actual, serious problems.

There is a huge difference between one problem every 30 days and having major problems every day.

If you can't even acknowledge that then you're not being rational.

I think you need to get out of this walled garden and see how the rest of the public feels about MFT.

Try Face Book for example. On that forum, people are free to express their opinions without being chastise for what they post.

  13. I did some searching around and There seems to be a common issue with the 11 equinox having engine issues with stalling and leaving people stranded, also steering issues and HVAC controls shorting out and transmission issues... your wife has been lucky.... I will take a MFT that frustrates me slightly...... At least I know I will make it home.... Ford is trying to fix the issues with MFT many Equinox owners have been told sucks to be you by their dealers....

You can find issue with every car. That doesn't help MY issues wit MFT

Heck. I had my dealership tell me I was out of luck too.

  14. Sorry there is a huge difference between 5% of the time and 80% of the time........ There are no lives at stake..... .....

I beg to differ. Lives ARE at stake. Lives are lost every day in auto accidents.

The malfunctioning MFT can cause people to take their eyes off the road and hands off the wheel. This is dangerous and could cause an accident.

I remind you that Ford uses the tag line but their own MFT system goes against the philosophy of "hands on the wheel & eyes on the road"

Comparing the price of an airplane to a car...should a more expensive vehicle be more safe than a less expensive vehicle?

A major fail would be if it didn't work 80% of the time for everyone.... The other thought is if it was a major fail then no one would be buying one of their vehicles with MFT.....

Ford has done a very good job of keeping the real MFT issues quiet. If the general public knew about the issues before purchasing, then it would be a different story.

I've seen many posts on this and other forums where a new buyer drives off the lot only to find that the system defective.

I'm not sure where you come up with 80% requirement for a major FAIL. I still call it a major FAIL.

  15. Well duh - of course there should be none. And 2 lockups in 2 months as opposed to having continual problems every single day as others are reporting. That's quite a difference.

Really there is no difference. Wether you have problems 5% of the time or 80% of the time. Anything over 0% is unacceptable.

I think Ford's CEO Alan Mulally would understand this. Hell, he designed the 777 cockpit. Do you think he would have accepted 2 lockups in 2 months in his aircraft?

This malfunctioning MFT should not be taken lightly. Aircraft or autos...people's lives are at stake here.

I hope to hell that I don't kill someone because I'm preoccupied with my F'd up MFT.

The tag line for Ford Sync is Hands on the wheel and Eyes on the road

With MFT, my hands are off the wheel & my eyes are off the road.

This is a major FORD FAIL and I don't understand why some people still try to sweep it under the carpet.

  16. From your post I would be willing to bet you are a very hyper person. Here is the picture you paint in my mind. Push button doesn't work.... Continue pushing button until it does.

I have found that it is just like a computer it takes a little bit to start up. I have had a few issues but to be honest they are easily remedied. I have had the black screen once in 2600 miles and 2 months. I left walmart and within 4 mins it did a weekly update and worked normally. It is a little bit sluggish, but to be honest my iPhone 4 gets that way some times. I would be willing to bet that people get in and start pushing a bunch of buttons before the system is ready to go thus causing it to lock up. Take any microsoft computer and start it up then as soon as your desktop shows up give it a bunch of commands and see what happens....

The only really annoying thing I have found is that I never know what will be playing when I get in. I shut the car off on my iPod and next time it is on the radio. Then next time on Sirius. As said simple issues and fixed by changing what is playing...

Your last statement about the audio source is spot on.

I'm not so sure about the hyper statements though. My personal experience (16 months. 20k + miles) it doesn't matter how long I give the system to boot up. MFT decides to randomly pick features to fail. Ex. My iPod has been the car since day one. No new music added but MFT decides to render it unusable cuz it's indexing. Voice response...I hit the button and she answers me 5 minutes later.

I'm sure you will realize these features as the months go on.

  17. I believe the OFFICIAL announcement from Ford said 1Q. The unofficial announcement said end of January and January isn't over yet.

You complain they released it too soon without proper testing and now you're complaining because they're waiting to release it until they do proper testing.

    You're impossible to please.

Kirby. You are mis-interpreting what I am saying.

I'm not holding my breath for the release and will believe it when i see it.

  18. And I'm sure that she uses it in such a way that it doesn't cause any issues. There are still other "real" people that have issues. My latest was that I couldn't stream audio over Bluetooth. It's been working fine over the last couple of weeks and then yesterday when I started it up, no audio. My iPhone's showing the podcast advancing and if I switch to speaker it works. Switch back to "SYNC" and no audio. Dig out the USB cable and connect up and now I can hear the audio but now I have to use the screen interface to back up the podcast to the point where I'd left off. All the time trying to navigate traffic on my way to work. Talk about frustrating.

This morning, it works the way it should. That's the biggest frustration - you just don't know if it will work or not.

It seems that one of the factors that Ford didn't take into account the first time around was that people will use their software in a multitude of ways and stress it differently. Hopefully the "beta testing process they borrowed from software manufacturers" (to quote them directly), will allow them to resolve enough issues that everyone will have a satisfying experience.

It's good that they borrowed a beta testing process. Too bad they didn't ask "real people" on this forum about their experiences before they attempted to "fix" it.

The press release raved about the bigger buttons and larger clock as well as "fixing" the Nav.

Those are the least of my issues and I bet they are realizing it after having real beta testers use it.

Look for the 2013 Focus to rollout with a new "performance upgrade" version that is still buggy. Just as they did with my 2011Edge.
