  1. That was a great post! I'm just north of 30, but I hear ya loud and clear!

It's amazing just the differences between my brother and myself in 9 years. He has no idea about times before cellphones.

If you wanted to call a girl, you had to make sure she was going to be home to talk to her. And you always ran into the chance of someone else picking up the phone first.

I had internet as a teen, but we used dial-up that would knock you off if someone decided to call or pick up the telephone. Before cordless phones were ubiquitous, you had to sit in the room that had a phone. Talking to a girl on the line with your family members in the same room was super awkward.

Anyone here carry a pager/beeper back in the day? Remember stopping to find a payphone and making sure you had change? So many things that we have nowadays that make kids' lives so much easier.

I like your comment about the library vs Internet. I bet half the kids out there don't even know what the Dewey decimal system does! Which reminds me of an observation someone pointed out to me before: Kids nowadays know to click the little blue floppy disk on the top of a menu to save a file without even knowing what a floppy disks is!

Hmm, carried a pager for several years. Yes, always a big challenge finding a working phone booth. I still swear I want to gather up every pager I can find and toss them into the casket of whoever created the pager. My goal, keep sending a message to each pager so I could torment the guy for eternity.

I've spent 37 years in the computer industry and worked on a lot of "stuff". Anyone remember the Compuserver vs AOL debates?

  2. I encountered a similar problem woith an '86 IROC Camrao I owned. The left rear passenger's foot well and rug got wet when it rained. I pulled up the carpet and sprayed water from underneath while a friend watched inside the car. We found the leak and applied some silicone caulking. I sold the car shortly afterwards because I got tired of problems plus chasing Vettes and Mustangs down the road.

  3. Another point. Wait for the Nav system to load after starting the engine. Yes, takes close to a minute, but eliminates annoying Nav fault errors and other interesting gremlins. You'll need to watch the MFT display for loading complete message.

I started my engine today and immediately drove off. MFT popped a SD card fault because I didn't wait for the Nav system to finish loading.

  4. Well, wish I could report more positive news, but after multiple attempts using not one, not two, not three, but four USB drives, I am still getting the same results. The process hangs at the same place every single time. I went and bought a brand new USB drive that had an LED so I could watch drive activity. When the update got to 6 out of 9 files. there was activity for a few minutes then nothing. I guess I am not going to get this update done, and I am not really of the mind to let the dealer have it just to perform this update. I really thought this would be a very straight forward process, but I must have a problem child. Fortunately, version 2.8 has not given me many issues so I will just stay happy with this for now. I am putting a couple screen shots below in case anyone has an idea. Please feel free to post, I am more than willing to try something.

    Regards!

Sounds like a corrupted file. Did you copy the downloaded file to each USB drive? If yes, I suggest downloading the update again and copying to your drive. The important point, you know how to back out, but you lose sometime during the process.

  5. Only 27 minutes?!? Wow. Mine took 3 times as long (but I was sitting still )

My weather map has always been useless. I think I got a correct radar image 3 times in a year. Do you have much luck with the weather map display?

The current version, 2.11 weather works better than version 2.8. I see maps updating in a timely manner. Version 2.8 weather maps updated hourly and I found them very unreliable. Now, they seem to update each time I go to Weather Maps.

ALS, just for grins I tested using voice commands, weather map then map after I setup a destination. The system updated fairly quickly.

  6. Performed my update on the way back from Maine. Installation process took at 27 minutes to install all the necessary files and almost 15 minutes of silence while the system ran the upgrade. Once the system came online I tried a few functions like pairing the phone, going thru Nav, etc, but found no Nav maps. Shut the car off and restarted; Nav cam back.

I noticed a big bonus; I still have my Nav Favorites and saved radio stations. :dogwalk: II tried switiching between Nav maps and Weather maps using voice commands finding the maps appear to pop onto the screen. So, I believe I see a speed improvement or it's my imagination.

  7. Althought I'm no fan of the cover, the cover provides added security to the cargo area. I used blankets, but always worried some moron walking by might see the hump under the blanket and break in. The cover hides anything stored in the cargo area.

I've owned a couple of Explorers and a Volvo which used the spring loaded assembly to store the cargo cover. They work very well, but when you carry a fill cargo load, where do you store the assembly? Yup, ran into the problem a few times.

  8. My system's far from perfect, but sounds less annoying than some of your issues. Dealership replaced my APIM back in May to fix a black screen after the module kept locking up. I'm on version 2.8.

My biggest frustration, Sirius Traffic and Weather sometimes hangs after the system periodically reboots. I've found I can sometimes force a system reboot by starting the engine, putting the car in reverse and driving away. The next car restart I generally see the results of a reboot; momentarily miss radio presets and the need to reselect my custom background. So far, helped because I don't need to look for the fuse nor disconnect the battery.

I sure hope Ford releases a new, working version next year. I spend the day chasing bus in code and doing software support. I'd like to see something work right for a change.

  9. Sorry, I don't remember all of the details, but I ran into the same issue when I subscribed to Travel Link, Nav, etc.

The Sirius site's horrible to navigate. I called Sirius explaining what I wanted, what I chose when I subscribed on their website. The lady who helped me said I needed another package which she checked off for me. Next, a resync with their site and I'm goilden. I subscribed back in May and yes, forgot the important details.

I found when talking to Sirius some people knew their business and competent while others.......................................

  10. I picked up the cargo security cover or shade a couple of weeks ago because I got tired of covering cargo with blankets. I figured, someone can see the hump and know something's covered. Yes, the shade's a piece of viynl, but when in place no one can see anything under it. :D I wish the shade came with a roll-up feature, but I'm somewhat happy I bought it.

  11. did you go with the 480 Traverse foot pack?

Does everyone still like it. I want to transport some kayaks.

I'm transport either an 18 foot Impex Force Cat 5 or an 18foot 3 inch Kajak Sport Millennium on the 480 feet. Here's a few things you need to know.

    - front feet placed 10 inches from top of windshield

    - rear feet minimum 27 inches

I placed both of my feet about 35 inches apart because I want a long spread between crossbars to carry the boat(s). I've left the racks on for about a month because I'm on the water a lot. Truthfully, I sure wish Ford designers included a real rook rack I could mount the Thules bars on. I find the 480 foot pack very stable, but I trust a real roof rack more for mounts. My leased Volvo XC70 I used Thule 450 Aerofoot and it's very solid.

I test my roof racks each time I load a boat by shaking them and the Thules rock solid on the Edge. Also, Thule provides an Allen wrench with a crude torque wrench to tighten down the feet. They use around 26 inch pounds for a torque setting.

BTW, yes you'll hear a bit of moise and gas mileage goes down a few tenths of a gallon, but I carry kayaks.

I'd still like a real roof rack for security. I know I mentioned it a few times, but just don't understand why Ford couldn't supply a real roof rack like a Volvo XC60, Audi Q5 and Q5, Kia Sorrento, Kia Sportage, etc. I guess somone fell asleep behind they desk or the lawyers complained.

  12. I understand why you want them to spray the panel, but just cover the chip with a pen. You'll find other spots in short order when stones hit the paint or some moron hits your car.

Here's some of the damage I've encountered:

    •
    • A couple of days after I picked up my car I found two small scratches.
    • At 2K miles, a stone hoit my windshield leaving a chip. I had the windshield fixed; only the repair guy and I know where to find the chip.
    • Some moron scraped the side of my car about 20 minutes after I washed it.
    • A gunite truck dropped some debris hitting my winshield leaving a couple of additional chips.
    • When loading my kayak the boat slid scratching the end of the rear deck wing.

I've never experienced so many little "accidents" with a new car.

So, hopefully, I'm taking your place in line and snagging all of the bad luck. Best of luck with your new ride. Black's a great color. I bought a Kona Blue Edge.

  13. I like the diamond pattern vs the one on the Weather Techs.

I've had WeatherTechs in the past and know that they are made of a fairly stiff plastic. Are your Huskys fairly stiff?

Do they fit like the WeatherTechs that are pictured in this thread?

Yes, Husky front's floor mats cover just like the WeatherTechs. I purchased the Huskys because I got tired of waiting on the WeatherTechs during our snowy months.
