  1. I thought long and hard about repsonding, but decided to join the discussion.

First, I've owned my Edge since mid December. I've experienced three system reboots during the entire time. The odd part, each reboot occured when I went to Maine.

Second, I'm experiencing some minor issues like a Climate control system which decides when it wants to turn up the passenger temps, slow response when pressing the Voice command, button, slow nav, etc, but nothing critical. The dealer did make positive steps in resolving the climate control issue, but since it's intermittent difficult to test and know if you fixed it.

Third, adding more programmers at a late stage in a product lifecycle's a recipe for disaster. A programmer cannot just walk into a project cold and contribute immediately, They need to review code, read specs, learn the product. Also, if they ask expiernced programmers questions people miss deadlines. So, while it's always nice to get extra help sometimes you may introduce new and unexpected issues.

Fourth, it's maddening and furstating to chase software or hardware issues when only a few encounter the problem. Also, if you can't reproduce the issue you guess at solutions and in some cases introduce new issues.

Fifth, you don't want o relase another version too early until you've performed a lot of tests.

Note, developing GUI software's always difficult because many people will hate your designs while others find it too complex. A GUI developer may go through a couple of versions before they find a good balance.

I could go on and on, but I think you get the picture. Time to stepdown from the box.

So, hopefully, we see a good release soon to fix the issues for people experiencing major problems.

BTW, I'm on my 37th year chasing 1's and 0s and seen a lot of changes in the computer industry.

  2. So far, the 2.7 update looks like it resolved a few of minor issues. I rarely use my phone in the car so I still need to pair my Droid X again. I guess I'm abnormal because I'm probably one of the few who doesn't talk to a lot of people when driving.

I plan on submitting an enhancement request on SyncMyRide for a method to backup phone configs, Nav Favorites, etc becasue the update wipes them out. I understand how developers focus on creating the first rev or two of a product then begin writing the enhancements. Also, a product manager colates the enhancement requests inserting requests into upcoming versions. So, hoping in the future can perform some backups.

  3. I went to the dealer today for another issue. Also, provided a list of "minor" MFT issues. I received the update to 2.7 without problems and no charge. Note, I never received a letter and syncmyride never mentioned I needed an upgrade.

I noticed my Nav screens to snap onto the screen instead taking their time.

  4. IMO, just a matter of time before someone places an interface in a car for a smart phone running apps which adhere to an accepted standard. The phone or a tablet will control the vehicle and provide the consumer easier upgrade paths and choices.

I've watched videos showing guys building fiberglass mounts to hold Android based tablets in cars. Also, many adapted iPads to provide infotainment functionality to cars.

  5. BLIS is a great technology, but you still need to pay attention to whose around you. BLIS saved me one time because someone changed lanes after I checked several times. Just when I started moving over the light came on and car goes flying by. I'd seen him in the other lane when I checked several times.

My point in my previous update, watch for bikes especially when they trave on the outside l in the lane next to you. A lot of bikers will travel on the edges of lanes so they can see ahead and bail if necessary. They're a smaller vehicle and BLIS may not aquire them like a larger car. Also, just looked at my spelling in my other update; horrible! :banghead:

  6. I've set my mirrors using the same method too. Last week, when temps actually started warming up around here I watched a bike for about a half mile come down the left lane next to me. He stayed on the outer part of the lane, but the BLIS system never picked him up. The moral, pay attention to the mirros and look behind you no tursting just the mirros and BLIS.

  7. Winter time driving and cold temps, lots of snow. My Limited's AWD 18 - 19 mixed driving. The few longer trips I've taken I've seen between 22 - 23 mpg. I expect once temps warm up and we move to summer gas I'll see better mileage for all around driving provided I'm not transporting a kayak and add one roof racks.

  8. Just a thought, what is your MyTemp set to? Below is the MyTemp section of the owners manual.

MyTemp: Touch and hold to save the desired temperature for MyTemp. To access this setting again, simply touch the indicator.

The MyTemp feature can be used to store and recall a preset driver’s temperature. This feature is provided so this temperature

can be quickly adjusted to a frequently used setting with a single button touch. To save a new preset temperature for the active

user, manually adjust the driver’s temperature to the desired value then touch and hold the MyTemp button for at least two seconds.

Any subsequent touch of the MyTemp button will automatically change to this set temperature for this user.

The preset temperature can be saved for each user via a personal computer and transferred to the vehicle via a USB device. Refer to

Creating a user profile in the Entertainment Systems chapter for more information.

I've read the same section a few times plus searched my PDFs for "Create a user profile" section in Entertainment Systems, but nope, cannot find the section. I checked both Edge and Toch PDFs. Thanks anyway

  9. I set my cabin temp to 72 for the winter leaving the climate controls in Auto and Dual mode. I encountered a minor issue from day 1, but thinking I didn't set cabin temp correctly.

Generally, I'll see temps on MFT set at 72 Auto 72. The problem, the car decides when to blast cabin temp to HIGH. You'll hear a beeping sound and watch the temps climb to max. I turn the temp down and the car fights back by turning up the temp. Now, no big issue in the winter because the extra heat helps keep the windows clear, but no the temps decided to high 70 today an issue when the car hits you with hot air.

Do I need to set anything other than cabin temps to maintain a constant temp? I'm considering pulling fuse 29 for my first time. Any sensors opennings to clean. I ask my Volvo had a sensor vent you could vaccuum and remove cabin dust.

I'm not relshiing the thought of pulling a fuse because my eyes are getting older, glasses get in the way.. You know the story, smalll fonts annoy you, blah, blah, blah.

    Thanks,

    Rich

  10. I've used many Weathertech products over the years and they're quality stuff. I know my Limited uses dual posts for the driver's side. I'm assuming all Edge models use dual posts, but you know what they say about assuming...............

Finally, I went with a set of Husky liners in the front because I had to protect the floor from the snow. The Ford rubber mats just didn't cover well enough. The Huskys work very well. I placed the Ford mats on top for added cushioning, but need to add a few pieces of velcro so the Ford mats don't slide. I do see a lot of clearence between the accelerator pedal and mats so I'm OK.

  11. I do a lot of kayaking. I can leave the keys in the car, go out on the water and open the car with the keypad. I don't need to worry about carrying small drybags with my keys risking a punctured drybag. I know someone wil ask, why not just put the keys in a hatch? Good question! Last year I capsized in a channel heading out into the Atlantic. If I became separated from my boat I'd lose my keys and effectively my live jacket. The boat's our real life jacket not just the PFD we wear. People can see a boat from a distance.

Once you start using the keypad you'll wonder why didn't I get a car in the past with one?

  12. I mentioned above I like the Edge nav. I still do, but would like to see a few enhancements and updates to the mapping software.

IMO, if you've used a Garmin or TomTom gps in the apst you'll find the Edge nav needs several updates. For example, my Garmins feature a turn by turn route list I can review before I start my desitnation. Also, ways to add "via points" along a destination in case I need to make a quick stop along my route. I can come up with more.

Amy meitoned breadcrumbs; great feature. Also, custom routes.

One thing I truly miss, I can create routes on my Garmin while sitting in front of my PC then take the gps on the road. A bit difficult to take my car into the livingroom.

I still carry my Garmin because of the number of off the wall destinations stored on it. I periodically head to various lighthouses in Maine. I love photographing lighthouses and in many cases you can't find a real address. I don't believe you can enter lat/long for location in the Edge.

Finally, I use one of the ProClipUSA mounts to hold my Garmin. I've owned several of the mounts and they're great.

Suggestion, we compile a list of enhancements, etc and post it on SyncMyRide; maybe the right people will read the list and implement some of our enhancement requests.
