nkotel
Hi all, I'm hoping someone would be able to confirm if I have a failing steering rack. This is for a 2013 ford edge AWD v6 3.5 SEL. I have a clicking sound when I have the car ignition off and I move the steering wheel back and forth a few inches. I pulled the wheels off and took the inner tie rods off each knuckle to see if the rack was making the noise. Tested again, wheel back and forth and the clicking sound remained. Looking at the rack on the left driver side with the inner boot off it seems like there may be rubbing of the rack in the housing. Is this sign of a failing rack? Should I replace the rack? The car handles well and I don't have play in the cars wheel. Power steering fluid is stable. No leaks. I am planning to replace all 4 tires as well and don' want this to produce unusual wear. I did take a video of the problem I am describing but could not post it here. I can send it to anyone who thinks it may help. One more thing. I do not notice the noise if the car is turned on. Although I did not test it like this while the wheels were off. There does not seem to be the same clicking when the car is on. Thanks in advance for any help.
