Backup camera woes: Is the "Master Tailgaters" replacement trash or treasure?

Recommended Posts

So, the backup camera in the wife's '11 Edge SEL in Mediterranean Blue Metallic has been transmitting video of a demogorgon straight from The Upside Down and I'd like her to be able to see reality once again. Might prevent her from running over errant children and cute puppies since she's an otherwise excellent driver.

Normally for things like this I get OEM Ford/Motorcraft parts since my experience as a computer tech/sysadmin is that eBay Special™ off-brand electronics don't always work the way you want them to. For my '16 Mustang GT/CS I have the proper Ford OEM FR3Z-19G490-A on its way to me, but that was only $58.99 from American Muscle. The cheapest I seem to be able to find the ET4Z-19G490-A from a source I trust is $220. Why the disparity!?

Anyway, there does seem to be a replacement module from Master Tailgaters for $110 that somehow seems to be well-regarded... in Amazon reviews. We all know that Amazon reviews are about as trustworthy as a kid with a mouthful of chocolate mumbling "I didn't eat your Hershey bar!".

Amazon link with the referral stuff removed (because referral stuff is annoying and dumb): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CMW7PW2K

So, is that actually good? Is it trash? Are there options that are better but also affordable?

I have a full license for ForScan and the necessary connectivity, so throw anything you got at me, as long as it's affordable😅

Ford's online parts-selling site offers no relief on pricing, but does reveal the Service part's prefix and suffix have changed to BT4Z19G490B, which yields a comparably broad range of web-searched sources & pricing...

Good luck!

Unfortunately it seems that most of the search results are either actually more expensive than the ET4Z-19G490-A variant or non-OE copies of dubious quality and compatibility.
