Rarely, and only under more spirited driving conditions, if turning left or right, while braking or accelerating, I will hear a clunk from the front right of the vehicle. I believe the sound is somehow related to the steering system as the sound only occurs when turning the wheel. I can 'slalom' the vehicle back and forth and not reproduce the sound and it does not occur with suspension travel (rough roads). I could drive 45 miles and have the sound only happen once, but when it does, its quite obvious. The Ford tech said he checked to make sure all suspension components were torqued to spec and was unabel to duplicate the sound. I even took him for a ride and could not reproduce the sound (how convenient). Has anyone had similar issues? Mcginnis158 Posted January 12, 2008 Report Share Posted January 12, 2008 Thanks for the TSB number. We just took our Edge for this problem. We got the clunking on the driver's side. It seemed only to happen when it was very cold and only turning left. We could never duplicate, so the dealer was never going to be able to. They pushed it off as a problem with ice or snow. Now that I have the number, I will be right back in to see what they say. I wish they would check for any TSB's when the car is brought in. Last week when driving on dry road (not icy or snow covereg) when turning 90 degrees (left or right..doesn't matter) from a stop and accelerating firmly but not aggressively, I would hear a knocking sound form what sounded like the center of the vehicle. Taking off in a straight line did not reproduce this sound, it only occured when turning and not when driving a curve in the road, only from a stop or very slow speed and accelerating while turning. This happened for a couple of days then later the 2nd day...it snowed and I went to show a friend of mine what was happening and I couldn't get it to reproduce it. I have a schedule appointment for it to get looked at this week, but it hasn't done it since. I'm going to keep my appoitment and hope they find something but I'm not going to hold my breath. Just for those who might think it....I had no wheel snots (chuncks of snow on the mud flaps) I regularly clean these off. Any ideas? Do you think that TSB 07-11-14 would fix this?
