  1. Good stuff Tony. The extra piece of mind having your wife and 2 year old driving in the winter with traction placed on 2 extra wheels is worth it alone. I placed my order on Monday, so we'll have similiar wait times!!
  2. Like you, I am coming from RWD Sports Sedans only. I opted for AWD for the added safety and piece of mind for when my wife and 3 year old daughter are in the car. Not only does AWD come in handy in winter time driving, it also can be helpful in rainy/wet conditions. IMO, the reduced fuel economy due to the added weight of the AWD system is minimal (about 1-3 imperial MPGj is all). IIRC, you guys in QC are mandated to have winter tires on, correct? A good winter tire setup and AWD will work great in the winter! I personally would go with the AWD, however only you can choose.
  3. ^ Yep, definitely a great carnuba!! Like every other carnuba though, it's not very durable so I would still apply a sealant prior to the zymol.
  4. You may want to look at applying a synthetic polymer sealant first before you apply your wax of choice. For an over the counter wax, I would stick with the Tech Wax 2.0. Like I mentioned previously, it's not very durable and you will need to reapply it often. If you put a sealant on first, that will give you durability for up to six months or so. Having a sealant applied first then a wax provides the best of both worlds.
  5. Good question. If I had to purchase an over the counter product, it probably would be the Tech Wax 2.0. Brands like Poorboys, Menzerna, Chemical Guys, Zaino, Blackfire, Klasse, etc are not available over the counter and are only available at detailing stores. While detailing is more than just a hobby for me, I only purchase products from professional detailing stores. For the US, I would highly recommend www.detailedimage.com and in Canada I would recommend www.eshine.ca
  6. It's not too bad for the price. The stuff looks good and provides some great depth and "pop" to your paint, however durability isn't very good. Expect to reapply the stuff at least every 4 weeks. It's not what I would choose to put on my own vehicle, however having said that virtually all of the products I use are not available over the counter.
  7. Thanks for the pics, the Sienna interior looks fantastic!!
  8. Hahahaha!! Thanks for the support! :shades: I had to wait over 6 months when I ordered my Infiniti, talk about a LONG painful wait!
  9. Awesome! George at Detailed Image is a very experienced detailer and is awesome to deal with. When using the Poorboys Spray & Wipe, make sure you have at least 3 clean good quality MF towels. You'll love this stuff. My vehicles always have this in the trunk along with a few MF towels, I never leave home without it! Any other questions, just let me know.
  10. It's official. Today, I placed an order on a tri-coat white Limited Edge, fully loaded. Now the 6-8 week wait starts!!
  11. ^ Would you be able to take a picture or two of your interior?
  12. 1. Stoners Invisible Glass is the best out there IMO. 2. 303 Aerospace is all I use and leaves a nice matte finish. Any other questions, just let me know.
  13. I will be able to tell you more once I actually have the new Edge in my driveway. I have a paint thickness guage and will measure the thickness of the clear coat/paint when I get it. If you don't want to wax your vehicles frequently, I would highly recommend using a sealant vs. a wax as they are much more durable.
  14. Yeah, all of the coin op places stalls here are outdoors as well. In any case, they are much more paint safe for your Edge than going through an automatic car wash. How I'd love to be able to visit each of you new Edge owners and get each one of you properly prepped up after you take delivery. Btw, I have 6-8 weeks until I get mine so I hope you all don't mind me living vicariously through you all?
  15. So if anyone wants to ask any questions or needs any detailing advice just post it here in this thread. I myself own a detailing business and another member here codyyfz is another well versed detailer. Any questions on wanting to keep your new Edge in showroom condition, please post here and I will be glad to help.
  16. Another thought is just to pick yourself up an 8GB or 16GB SD card and use it for music. I did that during my couple of day trial of the Edge and it worked flawlessly. Much cheaper than buying an iPod Nano.
  17. It's hard to tell, but it looks like way less than 20%. Hopefully it's not illegal and you don't get hassled by your local popo! Btw, looks great and I just love the tri colour white. It's the same colour I am ordering tomorrow!
  18. The very best carnuba waxes on the market will only provide paint protection for about 4-6 weeks. Not very durable are they? In recent years, there has been a product called a Synthetic Polymer Sealant, that does the same job as a carnuba wax, however it's much more durable. A good synthetic polymer sealant will provide paint protection for up to 6 months or so. There are pros and cons for using a carnuba vs a sealant and vice versa. The biggest pro for using a carnuba, seeing as it's a natural product, adds a lot of depth and gloss to your paint surface......especially the darker colours. The biggest con is that it is not very durable and you will need to apply it very regularly if you want ensure constant paint protection. With a sealant, the obvious pro is that it is very durable and you do not need to apply it nearly as often. The downside is that it often gives a "plasticy" type of look. Having said that though, most people not into detailing wouldn't even notice the difference. But what most detailers like myself do is apply a sealant for the durability, let it cure for 24 hours, and then apply their favourite carnuba was on top of it to give it that added depth and gloss. Best of both worlds. As far as your question regarding the no rinse wash products, I personally wouldn't use them on a salt caked or extremely dirty paint surface. Some people do, however I am much more anal when it comes to keeping my paint surface in showroom condition. If you want to wash your car in the dead of winter, I would recommend visiting a local coin op to rinse off all of the salt, sand, etc from your paint surface. Assuming you have a product like ONR or QEW, get yourself two buckets both with grit guards, a couple of 100% sheepskin or MF mitts, some MF towels, and some warm water. An instructional video below, however feel free to ask any additional questions. http://guidetodetailing.com/detailing-product-deals/optimum-no-rinse-car-wash/
  19. I hear you about winter approaching all too quickly! Regarding the touchless car washes, if you possibly can, avoid them. Obviously they are better than automatic car washes that physically touch your car, however they can still cause harm to your paint surface. Touchless car washes use recycled dirty water, and it's being sprayed at a decent pressure on your paint. They also use very strong detergents that will strip away any paint protection (wax or sealant) at an accelerated rate. I am not sure if you have a simple coin op in your area, but simply spraying it down is typically a good thing to do. And if you must actually wash your vehicle during the winter, a rinseless wash product like Optimum No Rinse or Quick & Easy Wash is the perfect product for safe winter time washing. Btw, if anyone wants me to put together a thread outlining proper vehicle care, both wintertime and otherwise, I would be happy to do so.
  20. Interesting. The Black Edge Limited that I had home for a couple of days had the white stitching.
  21. For those that have a new Edge with the Sienna leather, would you mind posting a picture of it here? TIA
  22. You should pick up a quick detailer like the one below and a couple of micro fiber towels so you can keep your new baby nice and clean. http://www.detailedimage.com/Poorboys-World-M1/Spray-Wipe-SW-P32/16-oz-S1/
  23. Awesome, thanks for the info! I guess I am just used to vBulletin!!
  24. I am an Admin on a couple of other car forums and one thing perplexes me about this forum. Why is it that older threads simply seem to vanish and that there is only one page of threads in this section? I've only been around here for a short time, but why do threads not get pushed to a second page, third page, etc? Am I missing something?
