  1. Fuel mileage continues to improve. The last-3 tanks delivered 19, 19, and 22MPG (actual), with all three composed of mostly freeway miles at 65 - 75MPH, with the AC on all the time. Cumulative mileage is now at almost 17MPG at almost 4700 miles. I finally let the computer calculate mileage; the 1st tank was 19.0 actual v. 19.7 indicated, while the last was 22.3 actual v. 21.7 indicated. I'm happy. :yup:
  2. scoopo, I've replaced both pairs of door speakers of my 'Premium' system. I used a VERY-high-quality 6-1/2" driver for the fronts... ...and 8" bass/midrange drivers for the rears. Both of these 'fit' thru the use of a hacksaw and ducttape. :shades: Both sets of drivers are driven full range, but since I've added Infinity-brand 1"-dome tweeters to the instrument panel... ...I'll be adding low-pass inductors to the front-door units to reduce their treble output. I did this in stages, the fronts first. That improved the sound quality--reducing the system's edginess--SO much I could hardly believe it. However the system was still shy of bass and lower-midrange energy, so I found and installed the 8" B/MR units in the rear doors. The system now has significantly more energy in the lower-MR/upper-bass and sounds MUCH better--warmer, richer--still. The tweets on the instrument panel moved lots of the music to the front (instead of from around my knees). I've lowered the filter points of the tweets' hi-pass filters dramatically, from 2.5KHz 2nd-order to 1.5KHz 1st-order*, so even more of the music is in front of me. The bass/MR drivers I got from Madisound... http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_i...d79736b42a4d85c ...only $30 each. The 6-1/2" B/MR drivers are by Sonic Craft but are discontinued and are being closed out at $10 each IN A CARTON OF 24. I have extras, so if you're interested in them at $11 each brandnew, plus shipping, e-mail me at jeffreybehr(at)cox(dot)net. JIC you're wondering, I REALLY love the sound of these drivers, and here are my home systems to prove it. * I don't listen at high levels, so this is safe to do. If you do listen at high levels, I suggest retaining the original hi-pass filters.
  3. Last 4 tanks delivered 17-3/4, 17-1/2, 18-1/2, and 19-1/4 MPG. Cumulative is up to 16-1/4.
  4. wbwell3: "It's a huge improvement over the 3 bars." Well...THAT's a matter of opinion. I still think it's way too busy and that's why I'll paint mine body color, probably. BTW Precision has TWO part numbers for the Edge grill. The more expensive is for the top two openings while the less-expensive one is for the bottom opening.
  5. The fuel mileage continues to improve. Last 2 tanks delivered 16-1/2 and almost-18 MPG. Total miles at last fill were 3229.
  6. You might try the one labeled "Ford Edge & Lincoln MKX Accessories, Modifications".
  7. And what was it you were trying?
  8. Grey: "If Ford wanted owners to change their oil at 1,000 miles, they would put it in the maintenance guide. It is not generally a good idea." Grey, other than the waste of recources, why is draining original oil early NOT a good idea? (I really would like to read your opinion on this, unlike 2 yokels also posting here.) Surely doing so is good for getting rid of machining and casting debris. BTW I think that good PR is also a factor in Ford's recommending or not recommending higher maintenance requirements. I suspect that lots of oil engineers would support early drains of original oil.
  9. If you don't know why, you didn't read the note. I was dsicussing the drivers I just installed in the front doors of my Edge and the pics showed how I've used these 6-1/2" drivers in my home systems. You guys seem to be taking a perverse pleasure in insulting anyone who tries to help; too bad for you.
  10. 007: "Every new car I have had over the years, I have ALWAYS changed the oil and filter after the first 1000 miles....I figured it gets rid of the leftover junk in the engine from the manufacturing process." I too use a variation of that.. I change oil and filter in new cars the same way the crooked Dems* vote in Cook County--early and often.. This Edge waited all the way to 1500 miles for its 1st change because I drove it home from Portland, OR. Then I changed them again at 2500 miles and will do so again at around 4000, this time finally installing my choice for 'world's best' engineoil, Red Line...all 5W-20, of course.. My just-sold Porsche Cayenne Turbo had its O&F changed at 33, 358, and 1930 miles.. The 1st 2 used dead-dino oil, the latter Mobil 1 0W-40. 007: "I used to change the oil every 2000 miles after that, but, that was getting to be too much work, and seemed I was changing the oil every 3 weeks...I've stayed at the 3000 mile (sic) mark for years." I changed O&F more often--twice a year which ranged from around 6000 - 9000 miles--than Porsche recommended, but their recommendation was 20,000 miles!!! 007: "if one reads the owner manual carefully, it basically says that unless you can get in your car and it is instantly warmed up, and you do nothing but interstate driving without any stop and go driving, than you have severe duty driving and should change the oil and filter every 3000 miles...more often if you are in a constant dusty/dirty envrioment (sic)." I disgree with that; I think it says no such thing, but of course changing them more often than Ford recommends certainly doesn't harm the engine.. I'll be following the normal-use interval of 7500 miles or six months. BTW I use the best (IMO, of course) oilfilter money can buy, a Mobil 1 #209. The overall quality of engineoil has improved markedly over the decades; I feel that draining oil at 2000 - 3000 miles is wasting resources.. Of course, as I already wrote, you're welcome to change yours as you wish. Grey, would you like to add to this discussion, perhaps on the improvements in oil quality over the decades? . * Oops, that's redundant, huh!?!?
  11. All I'm going to say about this pissing contest is that Grey, we don't need your sarcasm. Ladies and gentlemen, there are other filosofies* of engine break-in. http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm * One of my writing campaigns is to be rid of the idiotic 'ph' spelling of 'f'.
  12. bamaredwingsfan, that MagnaFlow muffler # is 12256. Took a while to find it. NYEdge, I'm still looking for a digital videocam to borrow.
  13. Here's mine from Photobucket. Just click the pic's IMG Code line description--PB automatically copies the line of code--and then paste (Cnt-V) it into your message here.
  14. creamEDGE: "And I really don't know what you would do to the front to take the chrome away, it offsets everything, makes it look good, I don't think theres (sic) much you can do with the fogs that would look good." The plan is to have those cute little circles including their narrow chrome rings staring out of body-color surrounds. I think that'll look LOTS better than that garish-chromed-plastic molding they're now staring out of.
  15. scoopo: "I hope you take your time and really come up with something that "fits" the Edge. I look forward to seeing the end result." TYVM; me too. If I could fabricate this stuff myself, most-probably I'd build one, but I really don't want to spend, say, $1000 on a custom grille. Probably I'll remove it and the foglite surrounds, sandblast and finish-sand the 3 parts myself, and then have them painted.
  16. My attitude about car-care products is that if Zaino makes it, it's the world's best. I've been using Zaino cleaners, polishes, conditioners, etc., since I bought my now-former Cayenne Turbo, and I love the stuff. Two really nice things about the conditioner--it does NOT make the leather slippery and it smells GREAT. http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc
  17. Edgehog, your posts would be lots easier to read it you turned off the caps-lock on your keyboard and wrote in normal upper- and lower-case text AND if you used periods between the sentences. Thx.
  18. After clamoring for and then being disappointed in the WAY-too-busy (IMO, of course) look of the Precision billet grilles... ...and thx to TravysCanada for the pic I stole from here http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?sho...4&hl=grille , I'm considering either building a custom grille of tubing--1/2" conduit, painted? Copper tubing, polished?--or painting mine body color. I think it would not look nearly as massive, painted, as it does chromed. I'd have the foglite surrounds, too, painted. I know that some of us LOVE the massive looks of that chromed grille, but what do others think?
  19. I've filled it only 5 times since it arrived in Phoenix (from its Oregon purchase), and the fuel mileage is gradually improving, but only God know how much of that is due to the better-sounding exhaust system.
