Hi dlebout. When I first got my Edge a few months ago, I noticed the status checker was available and it was listed under "updates available". I downloaded it to a USB and installed it. It seemed to install in the Edge OK but when I went back to the computer, I wasn't able to complete the "successful installation" follow-up on the Sync website.I was worried that I had a problem but I subsequently discovered that the status checker is only for use after an update has been installed by the owner. If you have not installed an update, the status checker has nothing to report back to Ford. Hope this sheds light on the matter. 2011 Ford Edge SEL/ MFT without Nav

Hello The6thTemp Nothing more fun than a poll! We bought our '11 Edge SEL fwd with MFT in December. After 10K miles, we are very happy with the vehicle. We haven't experienced any problems with MFT however, we did not opt for nav and Sony. We use bluetooth with our LG "dumb" cell phones and that works perfectly. Voice commands are great and the rear view camera is greatly appreciated. The ride, handling, and engine are superior in our opinion. The seats and headrests could use a little improvement however. On a scale of 10, I would give it an 8. It is far superior to our 'mechanical atrocity' 2007 Chrysler Pacifica which could not be repaired by the dealer. Good luck

Has anyone installed this usb update?
juscruzn replied to juscruzn's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Thanks wlepse. I think I will hold off on the update. If it's not broke don't fix it seems to be the most prudent guideline here. -
Hi. I have a 2011 Edge SEL with MFT but no nav. I have been using the following version since I bought the vehicle. Sync VersionGen2 - V2.3 Confirmed installations BT4T-14D546-AG SYNC compatible software I was surprised to see that for the first time, an update was available on my SyncMyRide account. The update explained these as stability improvements. Here are the files I downloaded. BT4T-14D545 CA HA LA MA NA BT4T - 14D546 AP ED BT4T -14D621-AA and several others totaling 317mb. My question is this. Have any SEL owners installed this update? If so, how did it go? Were there any new problems? I am thinking of passing up this update since I have had NO PROBLEMS up to this point. What are your thoughts? Just curious.

I own a 2011 Edge and I would like to put on the chrome trim being used on the 2012 rear emblem. 2011 is plain paint. Has anyone else done this? If so, how much did this part cost?
-
Actually, we bought it around December 15th. Sorry I wasn't specific-just shooting off the top of my head. The keyboard can be found in the vehicle setting menu. This menu allows you to choose querty or ABC style for the keyboard. Too bad the keyboard doesn't do anything.

I've had my 2012 SEL for 9 months. I was playing around with the settings and I noticed that there is a keyboard. My question is, what is it for? It doesn't seem to do anything. Has anyone figured this out?

I don't have a "smart" cell phone and I would really like to read email on vacation without dragging along the laptop. To me, having a browser in the Edge would be great. I don't envision doing anything complicated but it sure would be nice to have this option. Every other feature of MFT works great for me. I haven't had a single problem with anything I have tried. I play Mp3's with my usb player, I have tried the TDI and it's OK. I still prefer my TomTom for long trips however. $90 for a TomTom is a whole lot less than $800! My Sirius works fine but I'll drop it as soon as the trial is over. My dumb phone pairs immediately. The MFT hasn't had a single problem. Ford, PLEASE GIVE ME THE BROWSER!

Well, if they changed their mind, it would nice if they told us and stopped teasing about a browser in their advertising.

Hello fellow Edgies. I found this article tonight. The article was written on Jan. 20th and describes the MFT/Sync Edge browser as well as showing screen shots. So when are we going to get it? Does anyone have it yet? http://intelematicstoday.com/2010/01/20/ford-sync-feature-spotlight-wifi-and-mobile-hotspot-in-the-car/

Hi Maritimers I am guessing that the Status Checker can be run after a dealer installed update to check the results of the the update. It sounds like a science experiment in which you make a few changes and then run some tests to see what the results are. Every once in a while, one of my Windows programs wants to report back to MS about some problem it has encounterred. I think that the status checker performs the same function. I am sticking with the philosophy--if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Everything in my MFT system seems to work so it will take a pretty spectacular improvement to get me to install anything. After all, I'm still using a computer running Windows Milennium and it works fine. Cheers

I just had mine changed at 2000 miles. I always like to do the first change early. I guess it is my superstition that there might be a few nasty particles left over from manufacturing--probably unwarranted. I also wanted to get to know the dealer. I will probably go 5000 before my next oil change and I usually don't switch to sythetic until the engine has 10,000 mi. 3000 mi. oil changes have been totally debunked. Modern engines with premium dino oil can go 7500 with no problem. Check the Internet. My son has a BMW 330i. BMW wouldn't change the Mobil1 oil until 15,000. That would have made me squirm but he has had no engine problems in 150,000+ miles. Don't let them intimidate you into 3000 mile oil changes. They are a thing of the past.

It's all part of the fun of owning a new Edge. Mystery updates that appear then disappear. Secret updates that only certain owners get. Updates that aren't updates and should be ignored (but they won't tell you that). Updates that break your system and cause more problems than you had in the first place. Updates of updates. But above all Ford, don't let anyone know exactly what's going on. It's Ford's secret strategy to confuse, bewilder, and alienate it's customers. I think someone at Ford once worked for the CIA. Still............., I like my new Edge.

I recently checked the syncmyride website to see if any updates were available. I saw a link for the Sync Status Checker that I had not previously seen. I decided to try to install it. The installation was successful (twice) but I was unable to report the successful installation. When I sent an email to the help desk, I received this reply. The SYNC status checker is not an update and will always be on the update and customize section of our website. Any updates available for your vehicle will be located above the SYNC status checker. We have found that if you run the SYNC status checker without actually updating the vehicle you may get an error during uploading the confirmation files. Sincerely, JohnFord Motor Company SYNC Support Center So I guess that even though this program is listed as an update, it should be ignored by most users. Too bad they didn't explain that on the webpage. I just wish Ford would have worked out all of these problems before releasing the system. It sure makes them look bad. Potential buyers beware.

Hello 2011 LTD owners I'm just curious. I own a 2011 SEL. I have buttons below my touch screen that control the climate temperature and modes. I have small buttons on the standard radio that allow me to control tuning and volume. I am guessing that if my touch screen were to fail, the buttons would still work. Does the LTD with the Sony radio have buttons to control the climate and audio or is it controlled exclusively by the touchscreen and/or steering wheel controls?

I have had my SEL for about a month. We are very pleased with the vehicle and all parts of the MFT (MyFordTouch) system have been working flawlessly. I did not order the NAV. The turn-by-turn navigation works well IMO. You have to initiate the service by going to syncmyride.com. Once you have registered, all you do is press the input button on the steering wheel. When MFT asks what you want, you say DIRECTIONS. Then MFT asks for an address. It picked up the street number and name I requested perfectly and used my cell phone to make a short call to sync. In less than a minute, it ended the call and had the directions for my destination. The directions were read out as I drove. My initial reaction was that the directions were better than my TomTom. The turns were also graphically represented on the touch screen and to the right side of the speedometer. My cheap LG cell phone paired immediately and every time I enter the car with the cell phone on, MFT tries to connect with the phone. My phone requires me to hit a button to accept the connection. When I leave the car and take the phone with me, the connection is automatically closed and I have to accept the connection on my cell phone each time I restart the car. I have read about a lot of problems associated with MFT. It seems to me most of those problems involve IPhones with compatibility issues, problems with the optional NAV, problems with phones that stream audio and a few early failures of the computer. I do not use those devices and I have not experienced any problems. Everything works exactly as advertised. Good Luck and enjoy your ride.

Is there anyone NOT having MFT issues?
juscruzn replied to Tina's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Our new Edge SEL is now 3 weeks-700 miles old. There have been no problems with any of the MFT features. My cheap cell phone links perfectly. Sirius worked correctly. Back-up cam = no problems. We were impressed by Sync TDI. By the way, we are getting 20 mpg around town and the Edge has not yet experienced temperatures above freezing. We love it. -
Sync Checker 1.3 Download Woes
juscruzn replied to MrHappy's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Richy I would like to report the same problem. Download went fine. Installation in my Edge was reported as successful. When I tried to report back to the website, the verification file uploaded but stopped at 99% and then indicated that the successful update report could not be uploaded. I tried several times and received the same message each time. I have not spoken with the nohelp line. By the way, one week-400 miles and MFT is working perfectly! -
Sync Checker 1.3 Download Woes
juscruzn replied to MrHappy's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
It was easy for me to download the program. The thing that confused me is that there is no notification that the program is downloading on the computer screen. I saw that the light on my flash drive was blinking - indicating activity and then it was just over. When I looked at the flash drive using My Computer, the program was there. Now, I am waiting to see if anyone else has trouble installing the program in their Edge. I don't want to take any chances (:-) -
Hello 2011 Edge owners. I am unsure on how to remove the rear seat head restraints on my 2011 SEL. The front restraints are easy to remove but the rear restraints don't seem to respond when I press in on the release tab. Any suggestions?

Stephen Sorry to hear about your dilemma. Did you try pulling fuse #29? -

Thanks for your Edgieguy. No vehicle owner should have to put up with this kind of performance. I hope you find another dealer. The Ford dealer that screwed me in 1978 has seen me drive 9 new vehicles (of other brands) around their lot since then. Thanks Soerens Ford. My question is for anyone. If the Edge computer starts up when you unlock the doors and gets scrambled when you lock and unlock the doors too often, what do you do when you check into a motel and unload your baggage? When I unload bags, I make several trips to the lot and lock the doors in between. Would this fry my computer? Is it something to avoid? Do we have to wait outside the vehicle to make sure the computer goes off each time?

Does anyone have a 2011 Edge that works?

Thanks everyone. Your comments were reassuring. I'll keep my fingers crossed. -
Does anyone have a 2011 Edge that works?
juscruzn posted a topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I have a 2011 Edge SEL on order. I have read all the posts and I am starting to get upset. Does anyone have an Edge that works? Update---Well, I have had my Edge SEL for two weeks (600 miles) and every MFT feature is working perfectly. I don't have navigation (didn't want it) but I tried Sync TDI and I was impressed with the accuracy of the directions as well as how easy it was to speak my destination rather than typing it in on a touch screen (TomTom style). The backup cam works perfectly and I had no problem running Sirius. My only disappointment is that the standard radio doesn't have HD. I wish the product descriptions on the Ford site had described the radios more completely.
