  1. If you are going to use chains, check out the owners manual. I recall that it does not recommend chains with the 20" or 22" wheels.
  2. When we got our Edge a month ago the conclusion was that homelink was not available on the Sport. Makes no sense to me but that seems to be the way it is.
  3. The headrest issue bothered me for about the first day. I've had it a month now and, until reading this thread, forgot it was ever an issue.
  4. BTW, Motor Trend magazine is a pretty good place to look for real world mpg. They have a standard course of mixed driving and I don't think their testers are trying for economy. Their observed economy for a FWD SEL is 16.9, 14.4 for the AWD Sport. They also show the SEL is quicker since it weighs about 330# less. So, if you are ever at a light next to a plane jane SEL, don't bet your pink slip on the outcome. Just remember, the Sport is one awesome looking vehicle and the SEL won't make a trip any shorter!
  5. Also remember the empty weight is about 4500# (for my Edge Limited with 3/4 tank gas) and possibly more for the Sport. Loaded to 5100# and cruising on the interstates I'll only get about 19 -21 mpg, not the 25 the Limited AWD is rated at. I probably can milk 25 out of it but I bought it to enjoy. If I was that concerned about mileage I would have bought something else, or kept my Subaru. My 2008 Subaru Outback (non turbo) loaded similar and driven the same would only do about 26. It weighed 1000# less and really didn't have enough power to get out of it's own way. City driving with alot of stop and go it will be alot worse. So, given the Edge weight and fairly decent performance, I'm OK with these figures.
  6. It works well most (99%) of the time. And you can disable it if you just want it to work like a regular cruise control. It, and my blind spot warning and collission warning went belly up for about 10 minutes in really heavey rain. Didn't really need the cruise just then but the blind spot warning would have been nice. This was not "normal" rain. I've also had it rapidly slow down in curves with tall barriers and traffic in adjacent lane. If the curve is sharp enough the detector is going to see an obstruction and kick it off. Probably not the best area for cruise anyway. This happened in the mountains on I-5 going between Oregon and Calif. but woud happen in any similar condition. None of this is a big deal. Generally I like it but probably wouldn't miss it. If I bought another Edge it would be the Sport and it's not available on the Sport. It's probably a good feature for those who don't pay attention to their driving. :shades:
  7. I've used several Garmins throughout the years and really like them. But, so far, I like the nav on my new Edge better. I took one of my Garmins on our first long trip in the Edge just in case I had problems. Never needed it or even thought about it.
  8. US products have come a long way. Untill the late '90's my Detroit stuff would spend alot of their first year in the shop. Then, at least for me, things changed. My '04 Avalanche and '06 Chrysler 300C are basically trouble free. I haven't had the Edge long enough to know but I do enjoy it. It's well made, comfortable, has decent fuel economy for what it is, and although not 300C quick, the performance does not dissappoint. This Limited is my wife's and I am considering a Sport for myself. I'd do that tomorrow if they were to offer the 365 HP V-6 but I might do it anway. That's how much I like it.
  9. Subaru makes Outbacks in Indiana. Of course, the bottom line goes to Japan. With todays globalism, what pieces of the Edge are made offshore?
  10. Just finished a trip from northern Oregon to San Francisco area and return in a new 2011 AWD Limited. Mostly interstate running 65-75 with a weight of about 5100#. MPG varied from a low of 19.2 up to 21.6. The computer vs. actual calculation seemed to be about 0.2 mpg difference with the computer saying worse than actual.
  11. Stubby, Sorry for the late response, I was gone for a few days. Camping World did the installation for me about 3 weeks ago using Roadmaster equipment. I'm not sure of the Roadmaster part number but my invoice shows an SKU of 56184 at a cost of $459.99 plus install of $267. It looks really good. Roadmaster actually makes two for the Edge. One for cars with adaptive cruise control and one without.
  12. I've always used Roadmaster. The installation done on my 2011 Edge looks good.
  13. My Ford dealer says they have researched my concern and are adamant that I tow doing exactly what the manual says. They are OK with adding a Toad Charge but say pulling a fuse may require a trip to the shop to reset things that can't be reset by the owner. Their only comment about disconnecting the battery is that I may have to reset the clock and resync cell phones. So, I'll do what they say but may add the Toad Charge for peace of mind.
  14. My Ford dealer says to add a trickle charger, something like the "Toad Charge. I'm still thinking about pulling the right fuse. I'm going to do a short tow to see if this power drain to the display causes mileage to run up. If it does, then I need to find the fuse. If not, then the Toad Charge should be fine.
  15. Bob, Mine has no key. The owners manual addresses not turning the engine off off while in neutral, and subsequent possible drained battery, under the push button start section so I don't know if this is a problem with a keyed system. I am thinking I will need to pull a fuse or have a trickle charger that works while I am hooked up to the motor home. I'll post what i learn. I am having the car rigged for towing tomorrow.
  16. I just purchased a new 2011 Edge limited AWD with the push button start and want to tow it with all 4 wheels down. Per the manual, this is OK, just put it in neutral and place the ignition in accessory position. However, the manual also says not to turn the vehicle off without shifting to park. Otherwise you may drain your battery. Does anybody have experience with this?
