    20's

WOW an Edge with 24" wheels, I am sure it attracts a lot of attention, but at the cost of a very rough ride. When it comes to the Edge I think 20" is the sweet spot. You get the looks and WOW factor of 20" wheels, a nice ride and you don't lose that much on MPG. 18" wheels will give you a smoother ride but not the WOW factor. 22" wheels will draw more attention, but are probably a bit to rough of a ride for most people. So assuming you want good looks and some attention 20" is probably the way to go. Clayton
  2. I have been researching the sync option for the 2008. It appears that the 2008 Limited's come standard with Sync. Does the amount of usability that the Sync provides depend on other options? I saw a video the demonstrated how the Sync worked, my main interest was with the IPOD. It showed how to plug it in using the IPOD USB connector and the IPOD information (title, artist, playlist, etc) could all be displayed on the touch screen. As far as I know you only get the touch screen if you order the NAV package. If this is the case are you severly limited if you just get the Audiophile package? Or can everything still be done, it is just a more involved process because of the limited display of the Audiophile radio. Also can you do voice commands without the NAV on the Audiophile system? Clayton
  3. There is a USB port in the console? I would like to see a picture of this. Is it a new addition on the 2008 or did the 2007's have it as well. I knew there was a Line In port for the AUX function on the radio. Also I assume you do not get any display from the IPOD when you use the line in, just the music. Is there a way to get the title/artist/album info to display on the radio? I thought I had seen a special cable that plugged into the bottom of the IPOD and used the DOCing connection to do this, but can't recall where I saw it. Clayton
  4. RayoVac, Very nice! I have been leaning towards the Vapor Silver, so I have been very anxious to see some pictures. It looks very nice, in the pictures it looks more pewterish than I expected. Is that the case or is it more silver in color? I noticed the long shadows in the pictures so I realize they were taken in the late afternoon and will often make some colors look different. Any chance of getting a picture in the mid-day sun? I was planning on going with the charcoal leather interior, but now seeing the red inserts and stitching of the appearance package I will have to give it some serious consideration. In the last picture the steering wheel and dash look light in color, my guess is because of the sun shining into the car. The dash and steering wheel are charcoal in color and darker, right? The 20" wheels looks amazing and really add to the appeal. Nice looking wheel design without being to garish and over the top. I am glad to see the Pirelli's on there, what is the actual tire size? The new rear hatch may be easier to use but sort of looks like some kind of exhaust port. Is there a latch in there or is it a button that you push to open it up. Was yours the only 2008 on the lot? Thanks for the pictures, I was surprised we didn't get a close up of the "LIMITED" badging. It looks very nice and I am sure that I am not the only jealous one out here wishing it was ours. Clayton
  5. I can't wait to see the pics of your 2008. I really want to see how the Vapor Silver looks as well as the black and red leather seats with the red stitching. Also make sure you get some pictures of the 20" wheels and the rear lift gate if it is different (new handle?). Plus you will need to let us know about the two most heated issues, the glare and the brakes and if they seem better. Especially since you own a 2007 to compare to. Clayton
  6. Any idea when we might actually see some of these on dealer lots? I really would like to see the new colors (Vapor Silver and Ink Blue) on this vehicle as I know the same color sometimes looks different on different vehicles. Also any info on the 20" wheels and rubber? What type of tires? Love to see some pictures as well. Have only seen the pre production video and it's a little jerky. Clayton
  7. I am looking to purchase a car by the end of the year. I am leaning towards the Ford Edge at this time. I have purchased a couple of cars in the past and am pretty good at the whole "process" of buying a car. I do a lot of research, know what I want, and am never rushed. I find the car that I want and then wait until I can get the best price. Through use of bargining, rebates, dealer encentives, etc. While researching the Edge on this forum, I ran across posts about the X Plan Pin numbers. After reading about it, I think that the X Plan would allow me to get the best price possible. Especially if I can stack the incentives, invoice pricing + interest rate + rebate and maybe incentives. Since I do not have a friend or family member that works for Ford, when the time comes I will see if I can obtain a pin through the Ford Edge Forum or the Blue Oval Forum. If I can obtain one, I was curious as to what the process would be as far as going to the dealer and presenting it? Do they ask you where you got it? Who your friend or family member is? Or do they just verify the pin and go from there? Once they have verified the pin number does the rest just fall into place? Special pricing, no added fees, stacked incentives? I know that they are supposed to show you the invoice with the X Plan pricing on it. Do you get the options at invoice price as well or just the car and standard model options at invoice? The one thing that I read on the X Plan Pin that confused the most was that you are not supposed to have talked to a salesperson before presenting the X Plan Pin number. How would you know that you wanted to purchase a Ford, let alone which model if you haven't looked or test driven them. Any additional information about the X Plan purchase process that you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for all the usefull information this forum provides. Clayton
  8. I went in to my first Ford dealer yesterday and talked to a salesman about the 08's. I told him that I had heard about the Limited and was interested because of some options that I wanted (20" rims, power lift gate, new Silver Vapor color). He was aware of the 08's and some of the features I mentioned, but not the Limited model. We went over to his computer and he pulled up the '08 and only saw SE, SEL & SEL+ in both FWD and AWD models, no Limited. He could see the options I was looking for, 20" wheels, power lift gate, Silver Vapor color on his computer, but no Limited model. I thought this was weird because I know some people on the forum have already ordered their Limited's. I also thought seeing the 20" wheels as an option was strange. I thought that the Limited was the only model that could be ordered with 20" wheels and the red/black leather interior. I don't think I want the black and red leather, but I do want the 20" wheels, that is why I have been concentrating on the Limited. He took me over to the manager and asked if he had heard about a Limited model. He said he hadn't but would call and find out what he could. Any thoughts on this? I made it clear to the salesman that I am not in any hurry and plan to wait, so I don't think they were trying to get me "into something today" and clear out their 07 inventory. He also said that all the options could be ordered if I wanted, which maybe a way to go because there are some options on the Limited that I don't need. Clayton
  9. Doug, You stated that later units cleared up windshield glare. I haven't seen anything on this, do you know what was done? You also said you do not experience any glare with your charcoal interior with the brushed aluminum trim. I would think that the darker color would be less prone to the glare so that makes sense. But I would think that the brushed aluminum would be even worse than the Camel dash. Could you elaborate on this some more? Yes you are correct in that my list is pretty broad right now. I have really just begun to do some research. There will be a lot of factors that go into the final decision, look, feel, price and availablility will all be issues. I am sure that I will find good and bad about all the models that I look into. I will definitely keep everyone up to speed on my decisions. I will also continue to read this forum to see all the latest news on the 2008's, especially the limited. Clayton
  10. I rented the car from Enterprise at the Ontario, CA airport while traveling this week. I was also in Phoenix and was hoping to rent the Murano but when I talked to the agent he said that they didn't have the Edge or the Murano at all. So it obviously depends on location.
  11. I am in the market for a new vehicle and have been considering a CUV. I have interest in the Ford Edge, Nissan Murano, BMW X3, Infiniti FX 35. I have been doing a little online research and getting some information before going out to look. I have been reading a lot off of this forum as the Edge is one of the top contenders. Some background on me, my first new car purchase was a 1998 Ford Contour SVT. I loved this car. It was stylish, well designed, great engine, very unique and priced well below the cars that it compared to. I never tired of people inquiring about it and the attention it drew. Unfortunately after owning it for 4 years I had to sell it shortly after getting married as my wife did not know how to drive a manual. We decided to get something more practical and started looking for a SUV. I found a great deal, 0% financing, on an Isuzu Rodeo. It was all decked out, leather, moon roof, upgraded stereo, etc, so I didn’t fell like I totally lost out. I have owned it for 6 ½ years and it has over 100,000 miles on it. Routine maintenance is the only thing I have done to it. I am just starting to look for a replacement for my Rodeo. I want something a little more sporty, but still have some additional cargo space not afforded in a sporty four door sedan. I think a CUV fits right into that category. So I have begun the process of online inquiry and will shortly begin some test drives. On a recent business trip I had the opportunity to rent an Edge or a Murano. I went with the Edge figuring this would be even better than a test drive. I got to drive it around and get a really good feel for the Edge. There were definitely some pros and cons which I wanted to bring up here and get some feedback on. I rented a Black 2007 Ford Edge, with Camel interior. There was no model identification on it (SE, SEL). Is there a non model version for rental car companies? It was a typical rental, cloth seating, standard radio, 17” wheels, power locks and windows, remote entry, no BAMR, no NAV, no conienve packages, etc. Here are my thoughts and impressions for my time spent with the Edge. Pros: •Styling – very attractive looking vehicle. Looked as good up close and in person as it did in the pictures and TV spots. I liked the three bar chrome grill, aggressive looking feel of the car, powerful yet sophisticated. •Fit and Finish – everything seemed to be well thought out and put together. All functions were where you would expect them, easy to reach, well thought out and designed. •Interior Room – very roomy, comfortable fit. I am 6’3” so if I can adjust the front seat and then go sit behind it without issue then it should be fine for anyone. There was plenty of room for me in the back seat. I thought the fold down arm rest/cup holder was a very nice touch. I also liked the ability to recline as well as fold flat the rear seats. I think the Edge would hold four passengers very comfortably, five might be tight for a long trip. Cargo space was as expected with just a little less room than my SUV. Cons: •Window Glare – now I know what all the fuss is about. I was shocked at how much dash board reflection I could see in the front glass. My Edge had the two tone tan/brown dash which I think made it even worse. The tan being so light it seemed to reflect more than the brown sections. The glare was there, no matter what the lighting was, direct sun, above, behind, even under overpasses there was still some glare from the natural light. It wasn’t until it was completely dark outside that I had no glare at all. •Engine Power – felt a little under powered most of the time. If you punched it, it was fine, it wasn’t super fast but felt good. It was mostly when you were driving down the road and wanted to accelerate or pass. You would press on the gas and it would be slow to respond and then feel like it was struggling a little. You really had to punch it to get it to respond. •Lower Exterior Trim – being that my rental was black the lower edge trim did not stand out as bad, but I would not want that on any other color as it would take away from the exterior look. •Mini Van Feel – The over feel when I was inside the Edge was that I was in a small mini van with no third seat. I think this is more a personal issue, but still had that feeling I should be taxing around kids. Being that I do not have any kids I am not sure that this is the feel I am going for. At this point I would not rule out getting an Edge when the time comes. I know the Edge I has was a little on the bland side (not a lot of features, cloth seats, etc.) being that it was a rental. I would definitely have to see what one feels like when it was configured more to my liking. Either a SEL+ or Limited, charcoal trim and black leather, DVD NAV system with audiophile sound system, 18” or 20” chrome wheels, power lift gate, convience packages, seating package, etc. I am very interested in the BAMR but need to see it in person before deciding. So I am hoping that some of you Edge owners can chime in on my concerns. Is having a darker dash better for the glare problem? Could my Edge have been a little under powered because it was a rental? Any chance of getting color matched lower trim for 2008? Am I the only one that has felt that small mini van feel? Any thought and opinions you have are greatly appreciated. I am looking forward to the 2008 Limited, I hope that I can go see one on a Ford lot soon. Clayton
