  1. Sorry guys I only go by NIKAL. Like I said in my OP my wifes cusin brought his new 2013 Fusion down at the same time, as I set both our appoointments up togther. I know he was just as happy as I was to get these turned on, since every other Ford dealer we spoke to said it was not possible. Also a year or two back when I first signed up for this forum people were saying the dealers could not alter the programs, so that I why I posted it on here. I guess "Cobra" is my wifes cusin as he is talking about his Fusion. Funny is I had no idea he had a screen name on the forums. I'm not a member of the Blue Oval forums. BTW what promted this whole discussion with Witt Lincoln is we had just special ordered a new "Loaded" MKZ for my grandfather. The main requirement was the car had to have DRL or we would not buy it. We would get him the new Cadillac XTS, as all GM cars have DRL. (Where we live there is a Hwy where Daytime headlights are required to be turned on or you can get a ticket.) It took a few call's to Lincoln's Corp office to get the Special order # for the DRL. In the meantime one of the dealer tech's was playing around with the cars functions and found away via his lap top to reprogram the DRL. So I asked if he could do my wifes Edge? They said bring it down and we will try it. At that point I told my cusin to bring his new Fusion and see if they could program it too, since the Fusion & MKZ are based on the same platform. BTW the MKZ has a row of LED's in the lower fog light that act as the DRL, where the Fusion's headlights are power reduced. The 2011 Edge used the Orange turn signal lights. The tech thought the new 2013 Edge's could have the LED strips in the bumper programed to act as DRL.
  2. Just an FYI, Witt Lincoln in San Diego can activate your DRL by changing a setting in your cars computer. I just had this done and it took them less them 5 minutes to activate them. We have a 2011 Edge and the DLR's are the orange turn signal bulbs on that year. He said on the 2013's he can change them to the LED strips down below. At the same time my cusins brought their 2013 Fusion and he turned on their DRL's. On the 2013 Fusion the DRL's are a lower voltage headlight. They charge $59 to activate the DRL's. 3. Thanks! That is must be the part they were talking about. Like I said I had no idea and originally we thought it was part of the software upgrade, until the specialist came out and spoke to my wife and explained that it was hardware.
  4. IMPORTANT UPDATE HARDWARE FAILURE! We got our upgraded software in the mail like the rest and did our own install like most have. It took 50min like it stated in the letter and looked different compared to the previous version so we know it downloaded. A week or so after the install we started getting blue screens and auto re-boots. The whole MFT would shut down and it was not consistent with us doing any one thing. Sometimes to get it to restart you would have to pull over and turn the car off and back on. Also the blue tooth was not any better as many have said theirs has been since the upgrade. Ours still sounded like you were in a wind tunnel. The last time it did this blue screen my wife was on her way home from work. She drove right to the Ford dealership to show them. By the time she got there the MFT was working again. She explained that ever since the upgrade we have had these issues and they are more frequent then prior to the upgrade. The dealer was surprised we did the upgrade ourselves and said we should have brought it in. We told them the letter told us to do it ourselves. They checked the system and said it looked like the upgrade did not download properly and needed to be done again. If we had an hour they could do it right now. Now here is where the UPDATE comes in. When they were done they told my wife they needed to do one more thing and they did not have the part in stock and to come back 2 days later. They said it needed a (PIN or PEN) My wife thought they were talking about a PIN # or something. When my wife told me this I did not get it that Ford did not have this PIN or whatever it was. So 2 days later back at the dealer and they had to put this "PIN or PEN" in and re-do the software for again. This time the dealer had their Sync / My Ford Touch technical expert come talk to my wife. Kearney Pearson Ford in San Diego has trained and brought in a specialist who's only job is to work with the customers and explain how the system works, support their Sync/MFT customers. This lady works directly with Ford and the Sync/MFT team. She gives you a business card that she can be reached at so you can call her directly with issues. This specialist said the PIN that was replaced was a Module that is Hardware, not software and that this is part of the Sync/MFT system. She said the dealership has been finding more of these Modules that are intermittently failing. This is not exclusive with the Ford Edge, but with many of the Ford cars and trucks that are equipped with the MFT. She said they have seen handfuls of these modules failing, and since replacing them it has solved these customers issues. It sounds like these Modules are made by an outside vendor and Ford has not pinned down why some are having issues and other are not, it does not seem to be linked to a particular lot or date of manufacture. It has only been 3 days since we have had all this fixed, but since then we have not had one single issue, the phone works 10X better then previously and the system seems much faster. So if you are still having the blue screen of death, or if you are having intermittent re-boots or having to turn the car off and restart to unlock the MFT you might want to go to your local dealer and ask if they know anything about this "PIN or PEN Module" and see if they can test or replace it for you.
  5. Has anyone had any issues regarding warranty or the dealer questioning you about putting the aftermarket HID lights on your cars? The reason I ask is a neighbor has a 2010 Kia Sorento which also has projector headlights. Like the Ford Edge the lighting was not impressive. So he added HID's, and later on when he took his car into the dealer for maintenance the tech saw the HID kit and noted it in his file. The service writer told him that by adding the HID kit he has voided his warranty in regards to the electrical system. I dont know if this is even legal in California or if the dealer was using this just as a scare tactic. So has anyone else had any dealer or warranty issues with adding HID's?
  6. Maybe I am missing something, but my 2011 Edge rear bumper does not look to have the same shape as the Scion Xb. The Edge bumper has a 45 degree curve before going 90 degrees. The Scion bumper looks to roll to a 90 degree. Does this make sense? I would really like to use the Bushwacker cover as it does lip over and protect more verses the factory Ford Edge cover. Does anyone have a picture of their Scion cover on their Edge they can post? 2011 Edge; 2010 Scion Xb;
  7. I think we did pretty good, but it is a long story to have made this all happen. Purchased in October 2011 SEL 3.5 FWD Ignot Silver MFT Sync Voice Activation Rear Camera Leather Comfort Pkg Ambient Lighting Vista Roof 18 Chrome wheels, Cargo Package A few free bee deals I got thrown in were one more full detail. I figured we wold get this done after winter. And we get two years worth of free oil changes. So figure about six oil changes. Total MSRP before discounts was $ 37,530 Some special California Ford Edge factory discount brought the sticker price down to $36,135. Because of their mistakes and our 2 days worth of persistence we got the car for $29,900 before tax & license. We also got the extended 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty for $1,299. The warranty was more of a comfort thing as my wife has had Honda's & Acura's and has never had any major issues. I sort of leaned her towards either a Ford or Chevy as those are what I have always had and like. And after hearing and reading about the issues the MFT has had I feel a bit better knowing were are covered for more then 36K miles.
