  1. My first day on the site. Not currently an ST owner, but I've owned numerous Fords throughout my life. Currently own a 2016 Edge Titanium, but I'm shopping for a 2020 Edge ST.
  2. My daughter came out to visit on Sunday, April 15th. I went to Sky Harbor to pick her up. When we left the airport and got on the 202, I put my boot in it to get up to speed. It wasn't having any of that! I grabbed the wired remote on the recorder, tapped it and figured, "I got ya this time"! I drove down the 202 a ways further, and accelerated again. Same problem, so I "recorded again." However, I thought I might have a problem because the small screen on the remote still showed "0". I thought it should say "2". When I took it in on Monday, they confirmed that nothing was recorded because the recorder and the computer weren't communicating. They fixed it up, tested it to make sure it was communicating this time, gave it back to me and said, "go forth and record!" Well, I drove it for 2 weeks and never had a problem; not one. They called me about that time and said they needed their recorder back, so I no longer have it in the Edge. But I've not had a problem since. Somewhat frustrating.
  3. I took it back, they checked it out, couldn't duplicate the problem. (When I say the same problem was occurring again, to be more specific, I had two occurrences on the same 35 mile road trip. First when I went to pass a car. Second to see if it would happen again which it did.) What they did then was install a "recorder", and called me to pick up the car. They explained how to operate the recorder to capture 60 seconds of data. If it happened again, I was to tap the button on the wired remote. It would record the 20 seconds prior to me tapping the button, and 40 seconds after the tap. I could do this 3 times to record 3 occurrences. I asked who wants to take a ride with me?! The Service Mgr volunteered, so off we went. The Edge ran great! I've been driving it for 3 days, using the passing gear as often as the situation presents itself, and no problems. Accelerates like a mean, lean, 3.5 L machine. I called yesterday to see if they wanted their recorder back. They said keep it in there over the weekend. We'll take it out on Monday. I'll get back with the rest of the story.
  4. Well, the same problem is occurring again! Scheduled to take the Edge back to the dealership next Tuesday.
  5. What I'm asking in the title: is that even possible? If not, end of discussion. However, if possible, how involved would that job be? Is it a simple bolt on, and plug in the electrical components. Or is it much, much more involved than that? The Sport comes with the 2.7L V6 with EcoBoost. And based on some reading I just finished, the Taurus SHO can be equipped with a 3.5L V6 EcoBoost as can the F150 truck. Just wondering about my Edge?!
  6. Just to finish this topic, let me reveal the solution. I went back for two test drives at the Dealership. The first with a Tech. I drove. Then he drove. I made it happen 4 times. He couldn't make it happen once. I won't bore you with the rest of that exchange. Although it was interesting, nothing was accomplished. The second test drive was with the Service Director. I drove, and made it happen 3 times. The 4th time it worked normally. On the way back to the shop he said it was probably the throttle body, and he wanted to "make some recordings". He arranged a rental for me and I left mine there. It was ready to come home the next afternoon. They did replace the throttle body. Here are the comments on the service ticket: 12565 Verified customers concern. While driving vehicle on the freeway when accelerator pedal was pushed to floor vehicle would go into Reduced Power Mode. Connected IDS to watch throttle body position PID information. Noticed while pressing and depressing pedal that voltage value was different every time. Throttle plate was not opening all the way. Removed and replaced throttle body. Test drove vehicle while watching PIDs. No further problem at this time. So it's fixed. Thanks guys for your comments, suggestions and help. I love it when a plan comes together!!! BTW, what do IDS and PID stand for?
  7. Thanks for your response. Greatly appreciated! When you mention a fuel problem, are you saying I might be using the wrong fuel, or there might be a problem in the fuel system? My guess is you're referring to the fuel system. I'm taking the car back tomorrow for a minor part they had to order for a different issue. I'll talk to the Service Manager while I'm there.
  8. This problem has occurred twice now. Mileage was 12,454 when I took it into the Dealer to have it checked out yesterday. First, on the freeway when I went to pass a slower vehicle, and second, when I went to change lanes in crowded fast traffic. When I mashed the gas pedal to the floor, my Edge downshifted, took off like the proverbial jackrabbit, and then the engine lost power. The engine resumed running normally when I raised up on the gas pedal, but when I repeated the steps described above, it did the same thing again. Frustrating and dangerous to say the least. The Dealer asked if any warning lights showed on the dash? None that I noticed! They weren't able to duplicate the problem on the test drive. I asked if they had "stomped" the gas pedal to the floor? The Service guy asked me, Is that what you did? Yes, I replied, that's what I told you when I brought it in! The Service guy at that point said there's a safety feature built into the Edge. It involves a "Rev Limiter, the computer, and the transmission". Given what I was doing, the "system" was preventing the transmission from downshifting from 6th gear down to, say 2nd gear, which would have damaged it severely. So don't do that anymore! Is this BS, or did I just have a serious discussion? Has anyone had a similar incident, or experience? Please tell me one way or the other. Thanks for your help. P.S. I would think the Engineers would have designed the tranny to not downshift more than one or two gears, given what the actual vehicle speed might be at the time. Sounds reasonable to me.
  9. I find this thread about "throttle body" problems, and "limp home mode" quite fascinating because I recently experienced this problem on my 2012 SEL FWD 205A 3.5 V6. It was the 13th Warranty service I experienced with the vehicle which pushed me over the edge, so to speak! They couldn't duplicate the problem, but ended up replacing the TB "due to problems the dealership had seen on other vehicles". I've put on about 2,000 miles since the replacement, and haven't experienced any problem in that period. I loved my Edge; the ride, the size, the comfort, the mileage. It just had too many minor problems cropping up at inconvenient times. So, I ordered a new 2016 Titanium AWD 300A 3.5 V6 which I'm picking up today. I like what I've read about a new design for the TB. And also what I've read about the Power Transfer Unit redesign on AWD equipped Edges. Thanks for the info. You Edge owners are the greatest!!!
  10. I purchased an ESP from Flood Ford for my 2012 Edge SEL ( 21,644 miles) on 2/28/14. 7 yr/75,000 with $0 deductible. $1,420. It is a genuine Ford ESP product. As long as that's the case, look for the best price you can get from whatever Ford dealer. I just used it for warranty work on my transmission shifter assembly; completely replaced. This was an ongoing problem starting in January that was causing the battery to go dead altogether 5 times before they got a correct diagnosis and fix. On the last visit the dealership had the car for 2 days. Rental was covered. Warranty work was completely covered; no deductible charge. Flood as you know is in RI. I'm in AZ. All the info is at the dealer's finger tips on the computer under your VIN #. On a third party warranty, I've never heard any really good stories!
  11. I want to give a shout out to Todd with "Ford Service" who responded to my March 16th post about the battery problems I was having with my 2012 Edge SEL. He was instrumental in getting a process started just two days after my post which concluded on April 10th when my dealership working with my regional CSM and Ford Customer Service finally nailed the problem and got it fixed. (Knock on wood!) The problem turned out to be a bad Shifter Assembly which was intermittently not supplying a proper ground to turn off the Transmission Shift Solenoid Pack when the vehicle was placed in Park and the key turned off in my garage. The solenoids still being energized would drain the battery overnight. In my opinion, it was a prime example of a cooperative effort involving several people all initiated by Todd. Thanks for getting back to me the nifty car I bought in the first place.
  12. Hey BITOFNEDGE, I'd like to connect you with your regional customer service manager. Please send me a PM with your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, and servicing dealership. I'll get this up the ladder. Todd Hi Todd: I'm writing this because when I tried to PM you, the system said I need 5 posts to do that. I only have 4!!! The car is in the shop as of yesterday AM. They kept it overnight. As usual, they've found no problems, but they say they have a call into Ford Engineering for input. I'm waiting for them to call and say the car is ready for pickup. This should be my 5th post. Hope to PM you shortly. Thanks a bunch. Larry
  13. I have a 2012 Edge SEL, 22000 miles. I've had it jump started by roadside assistance 3 times. All times in my garage where I found the car with a dead battery. Twice in the morning and once in the evening when I was going for pizza. The battery has been replaced twice under warranty. It is now on the third battery. This battery has died twice. The first time it also showed a dash message, "check charging system". Dealer did that, said it was OK, but also said there is a "battery monitoring system" which was not reset when the battery was replaced. This causes the computer to give "false signals" per the dealer. They reset the BMS, and said it was good to go. That was on 2/14/14. This AM the battery was dead again. I have complained about a "whistling noise which comes from the battery, or that vicinity", but to no avail. No one ever hears it at the dealership including me! After I got it jump started and ran it for about 3 hours this AM, I parked it in the garage, turned it off, and the "whistle" is back. Recorded it on my smart phone so I can play it for the dealership tomorrow AM. I am p*****!
  14. I bot my 2012 Edge SEL in Oct. 2011. For the most part I've been delighted with its performance and gas mileage. It's been on only one long mileage trip (3,500 miles) and it averaged about 28.5 miles per gallon for that distance. Right now the odometer shows 12,657 miles. I know...I don't drive a great deal. Mostly around the Mesa, AZ area. I've had three warranty issues. First, the left rear shock was replaced due to leakage at 350 miles. Second, the right rear tire pressure sensor was replaced due to malfunction at 9,500 miles. Third, the driver's door latch was replaced due to "unlatched signals" at 11,900 miles. The last one was interesting because right after the unlatched signal came up on the left side of the instrument panel, the next signal would be "shift into Park". At 45 mph, it didn't seem the right thing to do!! It has the 205A equipment group, MFT, leather comfort package, rear view camera and ambient lighting. Color is white suede. 18" aluminum mag wheels. Light stone leather interior. Black roof rails. 3.5L V6 with 6-spd selectshift tranny. It's a pretty basic model, but I've gotten sooo many compliments from people who've taken a ride in it. Two of those have gotten their own Edges; both SELs. MFT at first was a bitch to sync my cell phone up with. Then I couldn't answer calls when they came in. After the first upgrade, that problem was solved. I've had an additional upgrade since. That restored my outside temp reading to the dash screen, after it was taken away by the first upgrade! I'd buy another if I had to do it over again.
  15. I hope my response isn't premature. I just got my phone paired with SYNC today! I have a Samsung Intensity II. The dealership couldn't pair it, nor could I, nor could Verizon. The conclusion was, it's not compatible. So I was looking to buy another phone, But Verizon said I was not scheduled for an upgrade until November of 2012. I could buy a phone now from them, but the price would be $400 to $650 depending on what I selected!! I said I'll do some more research. I started Googling the phone name paired with SYNC and came up with a website called "My SYNC Forum.com. It was quickly obvious that others with the same phone were either getting their phones paired to SYNC, or were having the same problem as I. I kept reading and finally found an answer that unlocked the secret of how to pair the two together. I highly recommend the site. Check it out. It might help with your problem. You know - kinda like chicken soup. It can't hurt!!!
