  1. How do larger wheels result in a smoother ride over bumps? Larger wheels usually have tires with shorter/stiffer sidewalls; resulting in a harsher ride.
  2. The NHTSA has just added the head-on crash results for the 2007 EDGE. Driver is rated at 5 stars and passenger received only 4 stars. Main page: http://www.safercar.gov/NCAP/Cars/4063.html Direct Video Link: http://www.safercar.gov/movie/2007/07Edge-f.wmv Rollover test still to be performed.
  3. I love it! It's only been 2 weeks/400 miles, but I find the ride quality, functionality and power are more than adequate. I was on the brink of purchasing a Suzuki XL7, until I saw the 2 page ad in Rolling Stone. I immediately was attracted to the EDGE's design and aggressive stance. I would suggest to all those who own one to get the driver and passenger side windows tinted to match the rear privacy glass (15%). This has definitely knocked up its aggressive stance a notch or two!
  4. I couldn't wait for the one I ordered. Ford's website has an excellent "search dealer inventory" feature. I found an equivalent model in CT (I'm in the Hudson Valley of NY) and notified my dealer. They contacted the CT dealer, did a swap, and I had mine ready for pick up in 2 days. I'm assuming the one I ordered a month ago is still on the assembly line somewhere.
  5. Story from the news wire below. Here is the Edge's landing page on the IIHS site: Ford Edge Crash Results Ford's Fusion, Edge gain top scores in crash tests By Associated Press | February 5, 2007 WASHINGTON -- The 2007 Ford Fusion midsize sedan and the 2007 Ford Edge sport utility vehicle received top scores in front- and side-impact crash testing by the insurance industry. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety said today that the Edge, which has the same underpinnings as the Lincoln MKX, also earned its top rating for rear crash protection. The crossover vehicles received the Institute's Top Safety Pick award, which recognizes vehicles that provide the best overall crash protection. The award applies to Edge and MKX vehicles made after January 2007 because Ford upgraded head restraints to improve rear crash protection. Ford made changes to improve the Fusion's ability to withstand front and side crashes, and new institute testing gave it top scores of "good" in both scenarios. The Fusion, which has the same underpinnings as the Mercury Milan and Lincoln MKZ, received a "marginal" rating in rear protection. Side air bags are now standard equipment in all 2007 Fusions.
  6. A video review of the Ford Edge has just been added to Motorweek's website: http://www.mpt.org/motorweek/video/roadtests.shtml
  7. Here's an Edge getting the side impact test. According to the NHTSA, it gets 5 stars. Still awaiting frontal crash test. Hope this links work: http://www.safercar.gov/NCAP/Cars/4063.html Video link: http://www.safercar.gov/movie/2007/07Edge-s.mpg << OUCH
  8. Can anyone confirm if the power points in the Edge cut-off when the engine is turned off? I would think with the popular use of portable GPS units, MP3 players and cell phone chargers, it would cutoff when the engine is killed. Otherwise you'd have to pull out the adapter before exiting the car (not very convenient for that plug in the center console). If they do stay live after the car is off, is there anyway to have the dealer change this? It seems like a throwback to 70s when you could lite up your Newport with a car lighter and no keys.
  9. I picked up my SEL carbon grey Edge tonight. Coming from an 02 Chrysler Concord Cruiser, I have to say, the Edge rivals it for ride smoothness and comfort. One thing I noticed which was odd (for an automatic transmission), if I'm idling in drive on a (somewhat) steep incline, the car rolls backwards while in drive (similar to a clutch standard) when I take my foot off the brake. Is this normal? I thought all cars had anti-roll mechanisms nowadays. Or is this because of the AWD? Any insight would be appreciated.

  11. Can anyone confirm why Ford decided not to use EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution) on their ABS brakes?
  12. Addendum to my post above: My dealer also informed me that all orders with 18" rims were being held, as Ford has a supply issue with both versions of the 18" rims. Whether this is true or not, I'm not sure. My special order had the included 17" rims.
  13. I stopped by my Ford dealer in Monroe NY just this past Wednesday to test drive and see if there were any SELs without the Vista roof or Premium package (there was not). But my very helpful salesperson informed me that she had just placed an order that day for 4 additional Edges. She offered to change one of them to meet my requirements. Which she did...without any deposit required. She said she'd let me know when it arrives (around 4-6 weeks) and if I want it, it's mine, if not, they'd eventually sell it. Kicker is, she just called me (2 days later) and said that the factory just pulled the order and it's beginning to get built! I was impressed that it all happened so quickly! Now I just hope they offer me a good deal on it!!
