  1. Hi, Waldo Well, if the SD card content is different from MFT updating, then OK I can accept that's the case. What I can't accept is Ford selling me a nav. system with mapping in 2013 that is so poor that major U.S. highways are half there and half not there. That info. was all there on my first primitive Garmin m/c nav. system back in 1997!! And if the SD card update comes from Ford, none of the Ford "accessories" that I find is a map update; I just had the Edge in for a recall check and no one told me about the option of updating the map. Garmin sells me a lifetime update that gives me new info. I download about every nine months or so, but Ford offers me nothing. If you're saying I've got to go to Ford for an SD card update, then OK...but I'm not confident that the update will be any better than the half-baked mapping I got just last October. And when I've "bought the farm", so to speak, to get an update that's equally poor do I tell them to take it back? Unhappily thus far... J. in CO
  2. A major MFT update is long overdue! I've got a 2013 Edge Ltd. with some pretty bad nav. mapping. As an example, major routes are there for a while and then disappear following an intersection or town. These are U.S. routes. and not local roads that I'm talking about. Also, the detail when zoomed out shows almost no intersecting roads. This renders the map almost useless unless you zoom in to 1/4 mile scale, and that makes seeing what may be coming up in a few miles unusable. It would be my hope that after over a year without an update that Ford would make some major improvements in the poor mapping along with other overdue MFT changes. I can get along without the speedo. and altitude readout that almost any other nav. system has, but the sparse mapping is a real pain. Right now I'm ready to go out and buy a Garmin portable to give me the info. and resolution that I'm used to -- for $39! J. in CO (according to my good old foldout paper map, at least!)
  3. Satin black is the color of the replacement grille bars -- ca. $135 sans tax from Ford. But for me, black looks like someone forgot to paint 'em! Find a print advert. for the Edge in the red color (there are plenty around) and then color the chrome grille black with a crayon or felt pen. That'll give you an idea of what it would look like. We did that with the red color. J. in CO ...and a postscript: there's a ruby red Edge advert. right on this forum site near the top, either on this same page or the main forum page. that Edge has the black grille bars... FWIW.
  4. Well, getting "bounced" from this forum for discussing quality issues would indeed be sad. Forums always have their religiously aligned "can do no wrong" bigots currying favor with the like-minded, and on the other side, pot-stirrers. Forum admin's. should know the difference. Sticking to the facts of your case should be the key. Mrfixit has by all accounts tried to get a satisfactory resolution and others here have tried to get him some help, it seems to me. The other obvious alternatives seem to be to either try a different Ford dealership or maybe a good independent body shop. When Ford scurries behind some "guidelines" (and that's all that they are...not gospel) then take good notes and try elsewhere. There's an old saying in the car world: "pride of ownership". It's a customer's pride that they're driving and paying for with a co. logo on it. But some co. dealerships can't quite grasp that concept or their role in it. Most times, it's just finding the person with enough clout to make things right. So don't be bitter...just persistent! And when all's said and the vitriol's settled, a factual note to your local BBB wouldn't hurt. J. in CO
  5. Grille painted the ruby red body color and "bra-ed".
  6. What happened to CMOS's install. issue? There was a discussion going on that required some kind of fix for his problem that I was trying to follow. ???? J. in CO
  7. Well, it appears that Ford's idea of tolerances and of customer service are both off base. An eighth of an inch in this day and age is a lot, and if the panel allows an eighth and the weatherstripping manuf. allows and eighth and they go in opposite directions then it's doubtful that they'll ever meet. But your eye will see it for sure, just like the little bits on my 2013 Limited where chrome/bright trim doesn't quite line up. I'll live with it, but Ford should know that it's exactly this kind of "no big deal" attitude that drove people to Toyota and Honda where an eigthth of an inch is unacceptable. And keeping the customer happy without the multi-level loca/field/regional runaround should be a priority. These are $40K cars -- not a lot for Ford CEO's who get theirs gratis, but enough to make customers say "never again". Look at Chevrolet, or for that matter any other GM product! J. in CO
  8. Thanks,,,yeah, Milady doesn't feel like she's driving a Peterbilt or Mack any more now that the "chrome" mass up front is gone. She threatened to get "naked lady" mudguards for the rear if we didn't have the grille painted! I should've mentioned that the clear bra stuff is also on the outside mirrors. He did it so well that I had trouble finding the line where it left off. Also, that stuff doesn't go around sharp corners well, so it's only applied up to those edges. On the new grille pieces, for example, he only covered the forward-facing surfaces...not the very top/bottom edges of the repainted bars. It was pricey, but he said that most folks don't do the "bumper" below the grille and the mirrors -- just the usual hood/fender bits. But that stuff down low takes the beating and so we went for it. And we're very pleased with the paint (a dead-on match with the rest of the beast) and bra work. Boss Lady is an pastel/water color 'artiste' with a sharp eye for color. She sees no difference. J.
  9. OK, re: the ruby red I pondered earlier...went out and let the pro's do it -- ca. $1100 including the clear bra over the newly painted grille bars, front bumper (I use that term facitiously...) and its sides around the LED DRLs and beneath the grill, then over the hood and front fender tips down to the back ends of the light housings. We are really happy with the paint and bra work done by Highlands Ranch Collision here in south Denver. Pic's are attached -- the close-up looks like scratches but it's just reflections of my fat house and head. J. ...and a P.S.: I referred to the "DRLs", but there ain't none shown -- at least they're not the LED lights-turned-DRLs that I'm talking about. But post-photo we did have Ford do their laptop tweak to turn on the yellow park lamps as DRLs. Those now work dimly as parking lights until you put it in gear, and then they're quite bright "DRLs". The LED lights down below are still just the stock parking lights.
  10. OK...but my Edge isn't the only one I've seen with the pulsing brake light. I've also seen Explorers and other Edges with the same (nuisance) blinking third light. It only affects the stock LED light and not the incand. lights. My manuf. date is 10/13 (you'd think it'd be a '14) so maybe it's a "late 2013/2014 feature" -- ?? The pulsing does about 4 blinks and then goes solid, so I'm not worried. One could mistake it for "pumping" unless you really pay attention. Anyway, having said that, the reflectors are there so that's the main thing I'm concerned with. I know a passing comment somewhere said something about "...reflective LEDs..." or the like but I just wasn't sure what was meant. Your pic's here make that clear. Also, I see an Edge portrayed with "furrin'" plates (Germany or Denmark) with your lights installed, and having lived in Germany for a number of years I know they're anal about stuff being right. You wouldn't be able to (legally) sell the lights there if everything wasn't "laut Gesetz" (by law). So thanks! J. in CO
  11. Two questions for the LED brightlites that I like a lot...but haven't yet bought: 1. The stock (2013, at least) taillights have the legally required reflectors in the notched area of the lenses. The brightlites seem to be smooth with no notch and so no reflector that I can see -- at least not in the vid's. Since reflectors are required by US law for "conspicuity", is there the required reflector in the brightlites? 2. My 2013's third brakelight pulses three or four times whenever the brakes are applied. In the vid's the demo car seems to be around a 2013 or so, but the third ("cyclops") light doesn't pulse. I'm a biker and I've never liked pulsing brakelights -- irritating and with LEDs, moreso. But they're there so I'm wondering why the demo car doesn't do that. Was it modified, or does the new brightlite setup somehow change that? Cheers! J. in CO
  12. OK, how's this...? All of the above are pre-drilled and attach with existing screws...which I'm not so sure is good for those rear Ford flaps since there's nothing holding them except along the left outside edges. That could be bad if one backs up into boilerplate snow, for example. The front Husky flaps don't have extra support either but they're a bit more robust. J. in CO
  13. After asking and being assured that the new '13 Edge could have decemt Ford flaps installed, we found that they not only didn't fit (not on the front, at least) but that the Ford version was what I'd call a "J. C. Whitney" solution -- i.e., cheap and poorly made. So we went with the Husky version from the bedliner people (http://www.huskyliners.com/images/ePIM/original/753933584115_P04.jpg). They were contoured, looked darned good and fit like a glove for about $40 front (we used the Ford junk on the back because there's already a fair-to-middlin' guard in the body moulding already there). The lesser-quality Ford version adds some extra protection on the back and looks OK, too, but I'd opt for the Husky on the rear if I hadn't already committed... J. in CO
  14. Beautious! We got the ruby red '13, and that was one of my unfulfilled requests to Ford -- body color on the grill. The three pieces you ordered come to ca. $140, and if we're lucky enough to get them done as well as yours then we're going for it. All that "bright" up front is a bit tacky, IOHO. My only question is, how did you drop the grill without taking out the headlights? I ask because a body shop here in CO said they'd have to remove the lights. Obviously from your pic's. that's not the case. And how are the old chrome/bright bars held in place? Can they be removed and the painted ones installed without damage to the black bits? Cheers - nice job! J. in CO
