  1. I have a '07 and it now has 98K, I'm having PTU leakage now for the first time, The lube is like mud in the PTU and it probably is partially the cause of the seal failure. I'm going to replace the PTU with a newer unit from a wrecking yard and call it done for now. Possibly sell the car off. I like driving it, but the rust hole in the hood and door seam and now this I've had enough.
  2. Well we all know the part about the PTU (transfer case) is Total B.S. Nothing is lubricated for life, Nothing. The rear diff in an edge should be fine for 50-75K since it really only transmits power in slippery conditions or under hard acceleration. I changed mine at 80K and it was dark. The PTU on minew was supposidly changed at 61K but now at 98k its basically mud.
  3. There are more than one reason why these leak. One of the major reason being heat, if you look at the location of the exhaust Y pipe and the rear cat you see that this thing is literly being cooked. Add to that the rear exhause manifold being right above. Then the issue of having the right side axle shaft pass through the unit, any radial runout of this shaft will make those seals, that are already bathed in super heated oil, flex more than they ever should, and then once this lubricant has been baked enough times it turns into mud, add to that -20F (like we have recently seen here in Minnesota) and that mud not turns into near concrete meaning those cold seals that are being asked to flex because the CV axle shaft has excessive runout is not getting any lubrication. I know this rambels on and on, please PM me or leave a comment if you would like more clarification.
