  1. Nice testing!

For the tuning, does the liverois unit come with the tunes preloaded? Or do you send them data from the unit after instalation (like, an e-tune type of thing)

If the latter is the case, do they charge for the additional maps?

They send the tuner, I need to pull information from the car, then they send over the tunes I want - 87 / 89 / 91 / 93. They have towing tunes also.

I am not sure if they do some sort of e-tune type of thing, I will ask though! Generally they said they want to have the car in person (Corey helped with this) to tune.

    Thanks!

  2. Hey guys,

So based on the previous topic of VBOX tests I have done -

I really wanted to get a test done to understand how much you can gain from just a tune.

    Specs -

    Livernois 93 Tune

    Winter Wheel Set Up

    Miles = 4300

    1/4 tank of 93 octane

    48* F

All tests done with traction control off and Sport Mode. I used my old school Scan Gauge (like 2004 era...) to understand RPM when launching. Also note that all runs done on a private road - not a track.

Took a couple videos of the scan gauge to see IAT change over the run. To be honest, it didn't go up at all during 0-60, it actually went down on the runs interestingly enough....

    Test Notes

    - Runs were performed in the order above, car is extremely consistent (last 3 runs were estimated RPM)

    - 1500 RPM is not as great where it used to be pretty decent with the stock tune

    - 2000 RPM is the sweet spot (maybe 2200?)

    - 2300 RPM spun ALL FOUR TIRES and it showed.... I assume with a better street set up that I would grab a really good 0-60.

    - Best 1/8 mile time (only one of them was 8.7 @ 81 mph - last run of the night)

    - The one 91 Octane Tune I had was 5.408

    - The best 93 Stock Tune I had was 5.976

    - The 1 foot roll out average is 4.9 (what magazines use to test), best of 4.8!

This tune took off .806 seconds off my best 0-60 and I must say I am impressed, I can't wait to see what downpipes / intercooler pipes / intake does (maybe 0-60 in 4.8?).

Thanks Livernois Motorsports, can't wait to see how the car performs when you tweak the tune later on down the road!

  3. I agree 3rd gear feels like a turd compared to 1st and 2nd. I noticed a flat spot around 5100rpm. I talked to Livernois about it and they asked if I could bring it down by the shop and they will data log it and try to get to the bottom of whatever is going on. They did say that the intercooler on our cars suck and it could be the computer pulling timing due to IAT. Just been too busy to get back down there to sync up with them.

Looking forward to some track times to compare notes.

Appreciate you taking the time to help with getting a tune developed! If I could data log and send them info I definitely would.

  4. GT500R, was 1500 rpm the highest you could launch at without spinning tires? Tested on the road or on the track?

Nope, just some prelim stuff to see what I could get off the cuff. Tested on the road (private ;) )

When I get the 93 tune loaded up I will do another 1K / 1.5K / 2K / Full throttle tests to see which is fastest.

  5. First impression...wow what a difference. Part throttle response is a lot better. Tip in and it just moves now, no delay or lag. Shifts are much firmer with aggressive throttle and stockish feel at granny driving speeds. First and Second gear just rip. 3rd is much better but still feels kind of flat to me.... From a dead dig stabbing the gas the car is still soft out of the whole until it comes into boost and then it just puts you back in your seat. I'm sure this has to do with the fact that this a V6, heavy car, and slight turbo lag. Once it comes up on boost around 2500rpm its an animal. Brake TQ to 2500 with Traction Control off and it spins all 4 wheels through first. That right there puts a grin on your face from ear to ear. I'll try and get it back to the track in a few weeks to see the 1/4 gains. I'll run it with the stock tune and the 93 tune on the same day to be able to compare apples to apples. As I think my first time out my numbers were lower than expected.

Overall I am extremely happy with the tune.

So I have been running the 91 octane tune for 2 days now.....

Part throttle response very good. Shifts are firm and aggressive, remind me of my DSG in my GLi, quick quick quick.

First and second gear rip - second is IMPRESSIVE to say the least, like very impressive. 3rd is better but I agree, it feels kinda flat to me too.

NOW, I did a couple tests just to see what the 91 octane tune does with 0-60 as I didn't have 93 in the car, so I ran the 91 tune. Here is what it came back with..

    4100 miles

    Sport mode

    Traction control OFF

    52* out

    1500 rpm launch

0-60 = 5.408 seconds (which is .568 seconds faster then my fastest run in stock mode 93 octane - 5.976).

    0-60 (1 ft rollout) = 5.066

Now I am not sure Corey feels the same, but I feel like something weird (that flat third gear) is going on for some reason.... the reason I say this is the 0-50 mph time is 4.0 seconds flat, then takes almost 1.4 seconds just to go 10 mph (50-60) which seems odd to me.... maybe I need to mess with my testing a bit more, but I figure the time above will hold a couple people over until I do a 93 octane test with different launches.

Once I run out of the 91 octane, I will fill up with 93 octane perform a full report - I would expect around 5.1-5.2 0-60 depending on how the tune was developed and easily 0-60 with 1 foot roll out in the 4.9 second range!

  6. So an update from my end.... 4 weeks later after I was told parts were ordered I had to call 5 times and wait several days for just ONE returned phone call for the status of my cooled seat issue, which the service advisor said inpromise to call tomorrow with an update and guess what, still hasn't since Thursday!!!. I then emailed the service manager, director, and owner Sunday night to complain about the lack of response and still haven't heard back from them!!! Is this Ford customer service? Who is the Ford rep on the this board I can escalate to?

  7. Well...not sure what the DA was but I can tell you that the track is at about 700ft above sea level and the temp was 65 degrees and sunny. All my runs were made at the same track so the only variable is the driver. I made 12 passes, 6 stock and 6 tuned, and used the best pass from each setup for the comparison. I've raced my Mustang at this track and several others and the MPH is consistent in my other car...so I don't think the clocks are off.

I would be curious to see what the vbox records compared to what a drag strip timing tower measures during a pass. I'm not to familiar with the vbox...how does it calculate 1/4 mile MPH and ET? If its based off of GPS then its not as accurate as a drag strip. I understand the currently technology is only accurate to withing 10-20 feet. That could be as much as a 40ft differential from start to finish and would allow for elevated MPH numbers.

Maybe I just have a slow Edge built on a Friday and that is why my stock numbers are so low. But I think we might be splitting hairs here...I think the important data is that it was a positive gain in performance. The only other mod I've seen with this type of bang for the buck is a NOS kit. They take a lot longer to install and require repeated bottle fills. Loading a tune takes 5min and I never have to worry about running out of power :)

It is based off of multiple GPS sensors and is what most major car magazines use to measure 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. The technology is well within not 10-20 ft, I have the google maps to prove it knows what side of the street I am on, this isn't an iPhone app :)

I am in no way saying that your Edge is slow, just that the DA could have caused a lower mph then expected (me at least). Hopefully they can release this tune so others can enjoy the power. :)

  8. Surprised based on other tests and my own (I was around 98 mph with vbox). But that is why I asked DA as I assume it wasn't ideal. Although I agree 7 mph is good, there would be gains just from going from a hot summer day to a cold winter night alone, which is why I asked about DA.

  9. Here is a short video from inside the cockpit on one of the runs.

Nice run, surprised the mph is only 101.

Were both your runs done in "Drive" instead of "Sport"? Makes me wonder if it could have been even faster!

Any idea what the DA was?

    Thanks.

  10. Did you have traction control on or off? I would suspect the slower times with higher RPM (and the fluctuation in Lateral G's) was due to the traction control engaging. If traction control was on, did you notice the light coming on during the runs? more/less with the different RPM runs?

Traction control was on for the runs, didn't notice the light come on as any point in time, my "private track" isn't the worse road, but isn't the best.

You can turnoff traction control on the 2015 Edge? If so how do you do it?

In "drivers assist" I believe in on the left hand side of the gauges...

  11. Hey guys,

So based on the previous topic of VBOX test sport vs. drive -> http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/18909-vbox-tested-drive-vs-sport-0-60/ (which still holds true after retesting tonight) I wanted to understand what the best 0-60 would be from an RPM launch perspective.

    Specs -

    2015 Edge Sport

100% stock with 2800 miles on the clock

Rune performed in SPORT with 1/2 tank of 93 octane

I didn't catch the exact DA, but was around 55* and close to sea level.

First run was in Drive just a a warm up, then two runs were made there after in each direction and valid best runs were taken to compare

    Results below -

    bCsCU7s.png

Now if you are like me, you said.... wait how did the lowest RPM get the fastest? And I thought the same... so I dug into the graphs and what I remember feeling when launching. I remember 1500 wasn't as bad as 2000 rpm in terms of smoothness when I let go of the brakes. It's like the car jumped for a split second, had to catch up and then go. 1000 rpm was just smooth, no catching up, no small bog... So I checked the graphs (on the right side of the pic above). And as you can see, the green line (Lateral G's) goes to the first high point quicker in the 1000 rpm graphs (the line is the same size to compare them across) then the other two runs... interesting...

So conclusion is 1000 rpm is the best launch point for a 2015 Edge Sport based on the data I have.

Questions, comments, etc. welcome. Now I am thinking the next test can be a 87 octane vs. 93 octane. Or a tune if Livernois ever releases it!!! :P
