well....I agree with everyone...I have a new 2108 Lincoln MKX and dread the thought of driving it on our first multi-day trip in February. the sides of the seat bite into my thighs from back to front because the bottom middle of the seat is so narrow. it actually gets worse on startup because the side bolsters inflate with air slightly (I have the massaging seat feature). my 2013 mkx was a pleasure to drive and sit in

There is just no excuse for this Ford! You used to own Volvo, where the seats are WAY better!

  2. I have a 2016 Titanium. The seats are the worst I have ever sat in. A class action suit is in order here. That metal bar, the flat bolsters, the narrow width, the too high sides and truly crap ass "leather" combine to make a seat that is a true EPIC FAIL in every possible way. The cooling never worked at all. I cannot speak to the heat because I had to buy a $2000 cushion just to be able to use the car. I like so much about this car but the seat is the reason I will not keep it. THESE SEATS SUCK HARD!

  3. You sir, are absolutely correct. I have this same issue and it has made me insane. These are seats from hell. I had to buy a 200 cushion just to be able to drive the car. Way less than ideal as it raises me too high. Good tip about the heat. I tend to use that less than usual due to I could never feel it under the cushion. These seats are shamefully designed. The cooling sucks had and does not work even a little bit. I had my little 89 pound niece sit on these and even she noticed that damn bar. I had a six 5 skinny friend sit in them and same thing. I am basically average.

I really got to get to an upholsterer but with about 6 months to go on the lease, kind of too late. I wish I had gotten the SEL. Not great seats, but way better. BUt some features of the T were must have for me. I would have liked to seen a class action suit over these seats. Next week, I open up and tell how I really feel!

  4. I got the software/clock spring replacement fix. There have been no issues that I know of since the fix. It appears to be OK. But I got this just on the cusp when the standard fix became a wheel replacement. I am a bit nervous that Maybe I should have gotten that fix. If it had been another week or two I would have had the knowledge of it (new wheel) being a default fix and would have insisted upon it.

I wish everyone well who has had this issue.

If anyone else got the clock spring repair and is having any further issues, I would be most grateful to hear from you.

  5. (Referring to the link put up by macbwt on page 19)

I love the statement about Takata air bags.

Air bag inflators that can fail and "injure" people.

Is a punctured carotid artery an injury?

Remember the old Ford slogan "Ford has a better idea"

I'm not against technology, I'm against dealing with a company (Takata not Ford) that has covered up its problems and is dragging its feet on recalls. Just about every month there are new cars added to the Takata recalls. Takata should be spending all of its resources on airbag replacement and not developing new toys that will just end up on new recall lists.

I prefer to point my car where I want it to go.

We think precisely alike. I hate everything about that company. Because of them, I will most likely not be buying another Ford. Sucks.

  6. Just to add more info to my previous posts on this subject:

After getting the updated adaptive steering software installed, and regaining that functionality, I noticed two DTC codes in Forscan, related to the Steering Angle Sensor not being initialized / calibrated. Brought car back to dealer, and they saw the codes, reset the SASM Trim, and codes cleared. It also seems to have brought the adaptive "feel" back to the steering as well.

So.... either get Forscan to view your DTC codes, or make sure that there is an indication on your paper work that they performed the steering angle sensor calibration, and checked for any DTC codes, post install.

Super good tip. Thanks. I am going to check my paperwork.

  7. Just returned from second visit to the dealer this week. While they replaced the steering wheel on Monday for a second time (unrelated to the adaptive steering fault), the "adaptive" portion was obviously not functioning. Actually, while they call it adaptive, I think that's a misnomer, it's more accurately, Variable Ratio steering. That being said, apparently, this 2nd wheel was a new iteration, and required new software that wasn't available until yesterday; or so I was told. They had to download it to their computers, then program my car. Works great now.

Excellent! So now all works, even the "adaptive" part?

  8. Just ordered a switchable OBD interface and downloaded the Forscan software so I can look and, optionally, change some of my settings, like putting the heated steering wheel selector on the home screen, and checking the status of my adaptive steering.

This sounds good. I would love to have my heated wheel on by default :)

  9. I did and they just programmed it again and it was all good. I also have an option to disable the lift gate switch which I swear was not there before. I also notice the vertical tack that was useless is now not an option as well and only the circle tack remains.

    Malcolm

I am going to check mine. I did notice a few little changes in the dashboard, but am going to check to see if the vertical tach is gone. That thing was dumber than a box of rocks to begin with, so good riddance I hope :)

I hope all get this issue resolved soon.

  10. Edge is still in the shop. I've had a loaner since last weekend as was told, "don't call us, we'll call you." No word yet. I believe last November they swapped out my steering wheel since it seemed different and the signals didn't work properly after the replacement (wouldn't turn off on their own), but per my previous post the dealer wasn't forthright about the replacement. They just simply told me that they did more software reset/reprogramming, but I shared the codes that were printed on my receipt with this forum and others concluded that they were the "replace steering wheel" codes. Needless to say, the guy I dealt with a the dealership is no longer there and no one spoke kindly about him, so I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't telling me the truth. So I suspect they swapped out my steering wheel without telling me. Worked fine for a couple of months before the light came back on this past January. And then the horrific scare about a week ago (mentioned above) - ugh. Since they already replaced the steering wheel (I presume) what else can they do...? Replace the clock spring? We're now looking into buyback options and our rights under the CA Lemon Law. They have one more chance to rectify this issue!

I truly feel your pain. This issue is a bitch. Factor that in with a less than honest dealer and it really sucks. My repair, clock spring and modules has been good. Still, there is always that nagging "Will it happen again? Now? Now? tomorrow?" type of feeling that I never had with a new car before.

I would like to see Ford stuck with some buy backs due to this. They should have tested more and used a better supplier. And all this for a feature that almost no one really cares about.

Best of luck, keep us posted please.

  11. It's not the what, it's the who.

Oh I see! Light dawns on marble head :) This quote is, well, inaccurate to be polite, and a total load of BS.

"Steering wheels are a whole other matter — and there have been no insinuations of any widespread defects in them or the other parts that Takata makes."

Overall, just makes me feel that I made the wrong decision. Ouch.

  12.

Other than an absurdly complex and unnecessary "feature" what was it about that video that shows what the exact problem is? If I had known more about this "feature" I wold not have bought this car. I hate over-engineered beta 1.0 crap features. Easy to see why all that crap in there could cause the clicking that I have mentioned in above posts. What the hell was Ford thinking?

  13. I purchased a 2016 Ford Edge Titanium in August 2016. In January the adaptive steering fault light came on. Called my dealership, made an appointment the next day, well the next day came and the fault light did not come on & of course nothing can be done at the dealership unless the fault light is on. Just recently the fault light has been staying on all the time, took into the deslership, they diagnosed it & ordered a new module, just found out today (February 27th) the part is on back order, the part consists of a complete steering wheel. I am still driving the vehicle, the dealership seems to feel it's ok to drive till the part arrives.

I drove mine until it got fixed. Just local around town at slower speeds. Not ideal, but although I was hyper aware, I did not feel unsafe. But still, I would insist on a loaner if it happened again. Glad you are getting the full replacement. I got the "other" fix which was some complicated bunch of module replacements, etc etc etc.

  14. In a manual transmission sports car, sure. You need to clearly see the tach for shifting.

But this is an automatic where 99.99% of owners don't need or want or ever look at a tachometer in the first place. For these vehicles the vertical design is just fine.

And you're completely ignoring the availability of the round tachometer.

No, but I just have nothing to say about it. It is the way better option between the two for sure. Let's say you just bought the car. And let's say you want to keep the rev's under 4k for the first month. THAT is one BIG reason for a tach in automatic. And if you wanted to actually be somewhat accurate during this time, would anyone actually try to accomplish this with the vertical? I doubt it.

  15.

I'm denying it. You're trying to make it an objective truth when it still comes down to personal preference.

You can keep saying that all l you want. But studies have been done, and that pathetic vertical tach is a disaster at disseminating the information it is supposed to convey. You can deny science all you want but that does not make it so. Liking it or not liking it is a personal preference. But does it do its job? That is science.
