  1. It's interesting that you ignored enigma-2's post! I have noticed that you are not good with any sort of criticism of Ford from me (suck it up), however, the airbag crisis has been going on for many many years worldwide in case you hadn't noticed. This is not a case of poor Sync updates, which by the way you previously defended as being Beta copies even though other more respected forum members told you they weren't. This is a safety issue that I would have expected ANY manufacturer to pay particular attention to airbag sourcing when bringing out new or updated models in recent years given all of the bad press associate with airbags over the past few years. Again, I have posted my opinion and do not intend to get into a flame war with someone who I now consider cannot look at things objectively and factually. Thank you and good night...
  2. I got notified today on this. After all the emphasis on airbags due to the Takata debacle, you would think that Ford would have paid more attention as they bring out updated models such as the Edge.
  3. I have every right to comment on customer service; that was my last one relating to this issue. You have made it clear that you don't agree - fair enough, so now just try and realize that not everyone accepts the service levels that that you appear to. In my industry, we wouldn't last long by having a similar approach as Ford has on this subject. I, along with some others, obviously have higher customer service expectations for a $40+K vehicle than you do. I will not be responding further, so flame on.
  4. So thanks to the great information in this thread, I was able to easily update to V2.2 this morning. I still, as others have also alluded to, stand by my comments about Ford Customer Service and the lack of updating software that is now 3 iterations on from the V1.0 that came with my new car last year. I used an older flash drive that I reformatted using the full, not quick, format facility in Windows 10; FAT32. I unplugged USB cables and turned off Bluetooth on my phone just in case. Plugged the drive into the lower port. It instantly came up with a message stating, "Updating Software". After a while the flash drive light was off. I then waited about 20 minutes and a "successful update" message came up. Unplugged the drive, turned off the car, locked it up and went in for a coffee. When I came back out after a few minutes, started the car. As others have seen the "map loading" message kept running. I gave it about 5 minutes, then as recommended here, turned off the car, opened the door, waited for Sync to shut down, closed door, started car and map came up after about 10 seconds. "About" screen shows V2.2. Enabled AA in the car and phone before plugging in the USB cable. It seems to be working OK, although I still have to test the voice control and take it for a drive.
  5. Thanks Ray. I would have preferred a dealer install just in case the system gets bricked. I have the download and will try it at the weekend. My rant was because my car was built around May last year and they have since gone through V1.1, V2 and are now on V2.2 and yet they are seemingly doing nothing about the people still on V1.0 except giving us rolling delays - that is poor customer service.
  6. So my 8 month old car with 7,000 miles on it went in to have the drivers seat track mechanism replaced under warranty as it had already started to feel disconcertingly loose; not a good sign. I asked the dealer if they could try to upgrade my Sync 3, which is currently at V1.0. They said that their IDS system shows my car to be completely up to date at 1.0. I see responses on this forum that the 2016's will be upgraded by the end of 2016, now changed to sometime in 2017; why do you think that I don't believe that they will ever do this upgrade? After avoiding Ford's products for literally decades, I came back and purchased a top of the line 2016 Edge Sport, loaded with expensive options, that has a supposedly brand new Sync operating system that is actually already out of date. It's not like I bought a low spec Fiesta with thin profit margins. Please forgive the rant, but it seems like a Cavalier attitude to take with their customers. Unless there is some good old fashioned customer service oversight, it doesn't bode well for repeat business potential.
  7. I would respectfully suggest that Ford can't just shrug its shoulders if Google changes Android, or Samsung (or anyone else) changes a new phone in a manner that makes it have Sync 3 compatibility problems. When Microsoft brings out a new operating system, then other software developers (even very large global ones) have to make sure that their products remain compatible, whether they like it or not. If this was a quirky phone operating system that is either on the way out, or only has a small customer base, then that would be different, but in this case it's not. Ford is not going to be able to dig their heels in like they can with their suppliers.
  8. I'm kind of hoping that Ford will do this, or at least offer guidance, rather than just leaving it to their customer. This is obviously not going away and data comms such as WhatsApp are becoming more popular. We all have our own areas of expertise, mine is not BT. So what do you say Ford?
  9. If other car companies don't have a problem with Android then I have to suggest that it is a Ford issue. Before the Edge, I had a late model Subaru Legacy that worked perfectly with this very phone. My Mercedes also continues to work perfectly with this phone.
  10. I am on Android 6.0.1; the latest official version for my Note 5. You have a fair point in considering the Samsung and Verizon connection as there is also an F150 owner who reported the same last Summer, but Googling reveals that Ford seems to have had Android related "challenges" for many years. The system works great for conventional cell calls as well as the verbal text read-back feature - no complaints there, other than address book size. Perhaps the IVT team should add into the troubleshooting mix what I originally reported about my Sync 3 not being able to cope with a WhatsApp data voice call.
  11. Shaay. What you appear to be saying is that Ford has designed Sync 3 without keeping up to date on the world's most popular mobile phone operating system. I would think that Ford should be able to give us a clue as to what particular type of Android setting might be causing this issue with your system.
  12. Thanks Shaay. My 2016 Edge Sport has not been updated to V2.2. It has the same version as when it was delivered new last June.
  13. So here we are in the new year and I had hoped that the Ford IVT team would at least have chimed in on this one as they seem to be back from the holidays. Hello, is there anybody out there...?
  14. I have a loaded 2016 Edge Sport bought new in June and the following issue is something I might expect for earlier vehicles, except that my 09 Nissan Murano followed by my 2012 Subaru Legacy were able to cope with simple cell phone voicemail playback! My Sync 3 voicemail playback always stops after about 5 seconds per message. I can go to the next message but can never play more than the first 5 seconds of any individual message. I can see from the phone display that the message is continuing to play on the phone, but of course the BT is trying to send it to a Sync system that is no longer accepting it. If I disconnect BT my phone playback works fine. I have a Samsung Note 5 on Verizon and the BT voicemail works fine on many non-Sync 3 cars (I rent a lot for work). I've unpaired and repaired several times but no change. The Ford IVT team have known about this since at least July as they have responded on other Ford forums, but have not been able to resolve it. This is a fundamental "fail" in product testing when you can't properly access a simple voicemail on a mainstream brand phone on the largest cell network in the country! And by the way, the same thing happens when receiving a WhatsApp call, also becoming more mainstream. If any fellow owner does have a fix then great, but I suspect that I will be waiting for the IVT team to chime in. Other than that, Happy Holidays.
  15. Thanks for the response. I should have said that I took the down arrow all the way down, but it still doesn't display all the contacts starting with popular letters.
