  1. Our Edge has not had this happen, by my 2005 Sport Trac did the exact same thing a couple of years ago. Purge valve it was. Cheap and easy fix. The other symptom I had was I could smell a slight gas smell in the garage, usually noticed it in the mornings.
  2. I checked using the Ford Owner site. They only 2 things that show up for my VIN are the APIM extension warranty and the brake booster warranty.
  3. Actually it was not very dirty at all. I have seen worse on my Sport Trac.
  4. Now I can answer my own initial question and maybe help someone else. When I took the intake tube off of the old throttle body I noticed that the butterfly valve in it was completely closed. Then I pulled the negative battery cable, removed power plug from the throttle body and began removing it. When I got it removed I noticed that it was just like my new one, with the butterfly valve partially open. Maybe this is a default position when there is no power to the unit? I do not know, but I can only relay the experience I had today, In regards to new throttle body, I have notice that idle is smoother with less fluctuation when the compressor kick on and off. Also, the throttle is much more responsive, whereas with the old one it often felt slightly bogged down. After doing this repair I now definitely believe that my old one was on the way out, so I am glad I did this so my wife will have no worries when she is on the road. Of course the bigger question, and rant is, why do these keep failing??? Greg
  5. Thanks for the responses. I have noticed that this throttle does body does not have a bypass valve. The older style mechanical one that my Sport Trac does have a bypass valve, so the valve does shut completely. Since I have never worked with an electronic one before I was unsure of whether this was correct. I plan to replace this tomorrow, so I will look closely at the existing one and see how it compares.
  6. I just purchased a replacement throttle body for my 2013 Edge. I have received it, but I noticed something that i am wondering if this is normal or not. Basically, the butterfly valve is not fully closed on the unit as it sits in the shipping box. Is this normal for this throttle body and does it shut itself completely once in the truck and hooked up? I have replaced throttle bodies before on my Sport Trac, but it is mechanical and not electrical like these are. The Sport Trac one arrived shut. I decided to get proactive and replace mine before failure, We have been experiencing surging idle for a few weeks now and it is getting more noticeable. Since my wife drives the Edge, I do not want a problem to occur with her behind the wheel.
  7. Even better than Rain-X, I have started using Aquapel on all of my windshields. Excellent product. We have been driving in a hard rain and only had to use delayed wipers while everyone else had fast wipers on. As for the extra wipe that this thread started with, on our 2013 Edge there is a menu option to turn the feature on or off. I think the previous owner of ours had it on, and they lived in up-state New York, so the result was a wiper etched windshield that we replaced..
  8. I have to agree that Ford's map updates are woefully behind! I have Sync 2 in my '13 Edge and I have an A7 SD card. The subdivision my brother lives in was started 4 years ago, and it is still not in the Ford map. I also ran into a road reconfiguration outside of Sevierville TN that was done a few years back and it is not in the Ford maps. I was aware of it, but it should have been in the system correctly. Why can Garmin update quarterly and be pretty darn accurate and Ford's vendor is YEARS behind.. While we are traveling we use the Ford system, and my wife will also have Waze running. I did contact the vendor and their only answer was that they only update as often as Ford tells them to. Still does not explain missing subdivisions... As to updates, I have purchased mine off of Ebay. So far so good. I know there are some knock-off copies that get listed on there occasionally, but the ones I have bought have been genuine Ford cards.
  9. I used an ELM327 scanner with a usb connector. I used my laptop with Windows10 for the Forscan software. I bought my scanner off of Amazon.
  10. I replaced the windshield in my '13 SEL earlier this summer. Windshield wiper etchings were really bad from its early years in New York. I used a local glass shop in Nashville that installed a PPG windshield with the sound proofing in it. Honestly it is quieter than the OE glass was.. My wife noticed the difference almost immediately.
  11. You can reprogram using Forscan software and an ELM plug-in device to your OBD port. I did this on my '13 Edge and I have the parking lamps as my DRL's. I am using Silverstar bulbs for headlights and I did not want them to burn out so fast. Parking lamp bulbs are cheap, Silverstars are not..
  12. Still trying to figure out the poor audio quality in satellite radio. I can the built-in diagnosis and found something interesting the APIM diagnosis. It indicates that the SDARS module is not available. Seems a bit odd. It also indicates that HD radio is available, but it is not since I have an SEL model. Does this make sense to anyone? Should I use my Forscan software and restart the APIM module? Ideas appreciated.
  13. Candurin, and others, are you using the DaytimeBrightlights kit? If so, can you tell any real difference in light output at night with the kit?
  14. Thanks for the idea of using ice. I had not thought of that. I will add that I installed it Saturday afternoon, then Saturday night the temp dropped below freezing before I got the garage door closed. On Sunday I noticed that many of the little bubbles were gone, so I need to try ice cubes and see if I can get the others gone as well. Yes, the protector is a bit thin, and I do wish it wrapped over the edge of the bumper lip for extra protection, but putting this on our Edge has covered some small scratches that had already happened on the top of the bumper, so I am hopeful that this will protect it going forward. It does look good, and the "Edge" scripting in the design looks pretty good. Now on to my next small mod, some Infinity speakers I just ordered from Crutchfield. Like most of you, I agree the sound is a but "muddy", so I am hopeful that these speakers will brighten it up a bit.
  15. I just installed a Ford rear bumper protector on our 2013 Edge. Install is easy, but it developed air bubbles as I installed it. Has anyone experienced this and if so, do you have any idea on the best way to remove them? I have used a small straight pin to release the air in many of them, but it seems that longer it sits today the more of these little air bubbles I am noticing. It is parked in my garage, but the sun has been shining directly on the bumper all day. Any suggestions, especially someone that has done this, is appreciated.
  16. I have recently purchased a 2013 Edge SEL AWD, Like many of you I find the suplemental parking lamps in the bumper useless. What I am looking for is a plug and play product that can improve these lights so they actually put light on the road. I am aware of the daytimebrightlights product, but I am not as interested in a drl. Has anyone found a product that improves the supplemental lamps so they put some useable light on the road? The projector headlamps are good, but they do limit side vision a bit, so I am hoping there is a product that can improve these useless lights. Greg
