The BBB notified me that my case has been opened. We will see what happens now. By the way, no word from the engineer today even though today was supposed to be the day. Is your 08 Edge AWD? If it is not you do not have the problem PTU.
-
I am not a class action kind of guy myself. The lawyers get $8 million. The first and second litigant get a few thousand $$$ and the other 30,000 people get a free oil change coupon. Have been a party to several and that is how it ends up. Good luck with that angle.
-
Ford called today. The rep is supposed to look at mine today. I have forwarded all my paperwork to the BBB. Iceman I feel your pain. I tried to trade it off and got the cookie cutter deal that they would offer anybody off the street.
-
I don't believe it costs unless you have a lawyer. I have sent for BBB papers myself. What do we have to lose? I have 30000 on mine. Why does 27000 concern you? They have to keep it going for 5yr/60000 and that is a long time. Not the best but it may end up that way.
-
I would love to "just dump the car" . Take yours in a few places and let them tell you what your trade in is worth then you will see it's not that easy. They all want to beat you up on the trade in. I got A plan and 2.9% at the time and they STILL hurt my feelings.
-
At least they are making you some kind of offer. So far they wont talk about anything until the rep looks at it. Only problem is, they can't produce the rep.
-
only problem with this situation is there is not a fix to push for. To buy all these back would take an act of congress.
-
They just called me while ago to tell me they have not accomplished anything and tell me they don't know when the field service rep will be here. Gotta love it!
-
Mine is still at the dealer. They can't seem to get the field service rep to appear. I am supposed to hear from Ford service today but I will be surprised if I do since no progress has been made. All of these have 5 year/60000 mile warranty on the powertrain so they have to deal with it a lot longer than normal. If you had any visions of driving it any longer than that it could get expensive. If you are trying to replace the vehicle a front wheel drive does not have a PTU and might last better.
-
A couple of these people said they were going to the dealer and get it settled once and for all yesterday. I wonder how that worked out.
-
Once you get your money back you can come down here and show me how to get mine back.
-
I hope you have better luck with the field service engineer. We have been waiting for days and still have not had one show up. Ford refuses to talk about anything until the engineer looks at it. The service people at the dealership openly admit they are out of fixes for it. I am sure the engineer will want to throw some part at it. If they admit they cannot repair it the door opens for all the others.

It did not work. Above where I said "it lasted about 10 days" was referring to the redesigned PTU. On page 10 about 8 or 9 posts down I posted the redesigned ptu part number. I have never had the intermediate shaft replaced. The field service engineer that came and examined it the last time said the redesigned PTU would fix it. As I stated yesterday, I am pushing for a buyback now. As stated above I am supposed to hear back from Ford customer service today. I have no doubt they do not want another used one on the lot but if they do not have any other parts or methods to stop the leak, what choice do they have?
-
I have the latest PTU. It is the one that lasted about 10 days. If you look back I posted the part number here. It had been released just a few days before I got it. Mine has 29000 on it now.
-
I don't know the manufacturer. I would be suprised if any other Ford uses it. The way it is configured to fit the space by the transaxle seems like it is for that application only. Just my opinion from looking at it.
-
I have been dealing with it longer than you have if that makes you feel any better. I hope this is about to come to a head.
-
Mine is leaking again. The updated PTU lasted 10 days, maybe 2 weeks. I am pushing for a buyback. It is at the dealership now. I am supposed to hear back from Ford customer service tomorrow. I told them 2 transmissions, 3 ptu's and several seals was enough.
-
I believe the shield part is not correct. Mine has had a shield since day one. Maybe the shield is internal? Mine has had the updated PTU installed but there are not any different PTU shields than it had since day one. Have had mine about a week now and it is still holding. When the last ptu was replaced with the old style it lasted about 10 months. Maybe the new one will last longer, who knows.
-
I had an 08 MKX , same as the edge , in the shop with 8000 miles on it and it was leaking.
-
The number ending in 7251 is for the redesigned ptu. The whole unit, the one that they are installing after the 7275A seal kit doesn't fix it.
-
Somebody STILL is not telling the story correctly. The PTU CANNOT leak the fluid out of the transmission. They are two separately sealed cases. If you are waiting for a ptu seal then it is leaking PTU fluid NOT trans fluid.
-
Then you might need a pint of trans. fluid. Like I said, the ptu is different from the trans.Did they top off the ptu or the trans? If it is the ptu leaking, that is probably the one they topped off.
-
It takes 75w- 140 synthetic. To me rear differential fluid is 80w 90 like the rear diff takes. The manual calls them both differential fluid I guess it is in the eyes of the beholder.
-
The trans fluid level tends to raise and lower depending on the temp of the unit when the level is checked. If they were inspecting for a ptu leak they may have never checked the transaxle.
-
If the ptu is leaking they probably refilled it. No the ptu does not take differential fluid.
