  1. Got word yesterday that BBB accepted my case!!!
  2. The smell has returned. In the past Ford hasn't been able to detect a leak until the smell gets more frequent so I will report to customer service but wait to bring it in. After 4 fixes I am now experiencing a strange sound (thud) when making left hand turns. Anyone else have this? Could all the work on this part of the engine effect the steering?
  3. I've had these parts and more. Nothing yet has worked.
  4. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you because I am waiting for that call myself.
  5. I don't think Ford knows how to fix it!
  6. It is 60,000 miles or 5 years whichever comes first, isn't it? The way i put miles on it that only gives me another 2 years at best before i own this problem. i filed papers with the BBB last week. How many fixes are you on and is your seal currently leaking?
  7. I've had the following part numbers put in: 7275D, 7251D, and 7275A twice. Someone else had 7251A put in. I don't know anymore which is supposed to be the latest and greatest fix. Ford Customer Service told me it is part 7275A which leaked 2 months after being installed.
  8. This is exactly where I am now. The part they put in on Monday is the same part they put in 2 months ago. Dealership is wonderful but Ford Customer Service basically told me that this is the only fix they have and perhaps the part put in 2 months ago was defective. They consider the case closed and told me to take it up with the Better Business Bureau (which I have). I think iceman33 and I will be the first to head to arbitration if the BBB accepts my case. My problem is that I have 27,000 miles on the edge. Ford has told me that there is nothing else they will do except keep "fixing" the "defective" parts until the warranty is up. How do you determine how much arbitration will cost?
  9. Just went back to my paperwork and I take everything back. The part that was installed yesterday (7275A) is the exact same part number that was installed in October and leaked 5 days later!!!! What does Ford think they are doing - just throwing in these parts that we know do not work. I contacted customer service and will let you know what happens.
  10. I had the fourth PTU seal - shaft replaced yesterday. It is the newest part number 8T4Z 7275A. This dealer seemed to be honest with me. He said that no one has come back yet with this part not working but I think someone on this forum did have a leak again after this part was put in. My concern is that they installed a shield which may stop the smell but not the leak. I may never know if it is leaking. Ford said I could bring it back anytime for them to check it (which I will) but it is getting out of hand. Service manager did tell me though that the work and the part done yesterday is guaranteed for one year regardless if the warranty runs out on the car and seemingly I have a longer warranty on the engine than the 30,000 miles. All of you may want to check in to your warranties and at least contact Ford and try to get an extended warranty on the PTU seal. I will speak to Ford Customer Service later today. I have filed a case with the Better Business Bureau but this seal would have to leak before 36,000 miles ( I am at 26,000) in order to have a case with them. They give the dealer 4 times to fix problem. I have heard that the buy back deals are not all that good but I will be inquiring about that as well. Will keep you posted.
  11. I am meeting with the Ford dealership where I purchased my Edge at noon today. I am on my fourth fix. Last time my car just started smoking and I pulled into the nearest dealer. He won't even take my car again. Said the problem belongs to the dealer who sold me the car. Nice attitude!! Will keep you posted.
  12. What part number was the new kit? I am scheduled for service on Monday. On my fourth fix. thanks.
  13. I've had the seal and shaft replaced and still have the smell. Fixed for the 3rd time november 2008. Smell back in January. Should be going to dealer again sometime this week. I will not take it in until they can get a loaner car for me. Last part I had was 7251D.
  14. I am scheduled to go to the dealer this week and will ask about a buy back. How many miles do you have on your Edge? Which part was installed? I am on my fourth fix at 26,000 miles. I had part #7251D last time. Galaxieman wrote that newest part was 1 8T4Z-7251A. I am working with Ford customer service as well and they pretend to know nothing about this problem. I really don't think that they have a fix.
  15. Sounds like a PTU problem. Car starts to smell when you idle usually after a run on the highway. Takes awhile to see smoke and I have never seen anything dripping in my driveway. I am on my 4th fix for this.
  16. I had the PTO assembly and the axel haft shaft replaced on my last "fix". Smell is back. I am guessing that this means that the entire PTO was replaced (??) and this still does not solve the problem. Am waiting for a loaner car and then Ford will take my car for the 4th fix.
  17. I also do not qualify for the lemon law but Ford customer service is being very attentive to my concerns. They have a HUGE problem on their hands. Call 866-631-3788. I also filed a case with the better business bureau. Very easy to do at www.auto.bbb.org. Keep us posted.
  18. Thank-you for posting this. This is exactly what is happening to my 2007 Edge. The smell is not as frequent as it was so I sometimes think I am imagining it. Ford is taking my car sometime this week to look at. It is not in your head. Keep us posted.
  19. The 7275 part is the old one. I had no luck with 7251D but there seems to be a 7251A now available. Don't have much hope for that either but the 7275 parts do not work.
  20. ford customer care 866-631-3788. Request the seal kit. At this point Ford should do all they can to fix this problem. I just don't think they know what to do!
  21. I don't even know how to open the hood but my paperwork says that it was part #7251D that was installed. Is 7251A what I should ask for now?
  22. I have had 3 PTU replacements (both the 7275A and the 7251 redesigned seal) and now my car is smelling again. Only a matter of time before it starts to smoke. I contacted Ford Customer Service. Lemon law in NJ has to be filed before 18,000 miles. Have opened case with Better Business Bureau. I have a 2007 AWD. What are our options here? Are we just stuck with a car that smells and smokes every 3 months? Are the 08 and 09 Edges having this problem. Any help anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated!

  24. Letter to Ford Customer Viewpoint P.O. Box 930 Ann Arbor MI 48106-9775. Yes, we should all write to Ford and go on this website: Ford Customer Service: I recently received your concern handling survey. My recent concern regarding the third maintenance on the PTU seal on my 2007 Ford Edge was handled satisfactorily. However, the issue has less to do with rating the service of the dealership than addressing the reoccurring PTU seal problem that thousands of Edge owners are experiencing. What is Ford going to do once the warranty expires? There are over 16,000 views on the Ford Edge Forum regarding this issue and over 2 pages of Edge owners posting frustration over second and third PTU seal replacements. Many who experience the smell and smoke again months later. If this last replacement does not solve the problem, what are my options? This is the first American car I have purchased. It has not been a good experience and this has nothing to do with the service I have received at the dealership. The problem is with the quality of your product!
  25. My 2007 Edge has been worked on 3 times for the PTU seal and is starting to smell again. Has anyone filed a lemon law on this?
