  1. Why are you even posting on this thread ? You have adding nothing for the OP's question but your stupid opinion and non-topic issue. Some of us were not as fortunate as you to get a good one. The wife constantly reminds me of my bad decision to get the Edge when she wanted a Murano but I insisted on supporting Ford in their time of need so I can not get over it until she does. I wish I had looked here before buying as I would not even be here now. Keep on topic or go away.
  2. Also look under the thread here titled PTU question. Good luck, hope you get a good one if you go for it.
  3. Look under the maintenance / tsb section for 'burning smell' thread. I dumped my 08 Edge last February because of it and also noted it in my annual consumer reports survey and anyone I know that is looking to buy a Ford. The Edge was the worst new car I ever purchased. No 'new car smell' with that car. I feel bad for the guys that are stuck with this, I took about a $2500 loss on this and it will be the last Ford me or my family will purchase especially with all the issues with the F150's we have had. Yea I'm still a bit sour about it..
  4. I had an '89 Plymouth Voyager with a 2.5L Turbo and kept the middle and back seats out for work. The thing was so light that it used to be able to smoke my buddies 5.0 stang from 0-80.... Went through 3 transmissions with that little torq monster.
  5. sorry to hear about this guys, I traded mine in after 3 leaking PTU replacement attempts, the thing just plain old stunk.. Good luck and hope it gets fixed!
  6. why would you not run what your owners manual says ?
  7. I'll sell my xcal3 tuner for $150. I dumped the Edge, was sick of the stinking PTU leak smell and after 3rd seal I had enough. When I spoke to Steeda, one guy said he would throw in a tune if I bought the intake. I just sold my xcal2 to a guy on the F150 forum and may post this one as well if my bro don't want to tune his F250. Bought an 09 Ram and there won't be a tune for this available for at least 6 months or so and probably not SCT.
  8. Enough of this. Mine was leaking shortly after purchase, I mentioned at first oil change but only after joining this forum was able to narrow down the issue. Mine always had a coolant smell in the hot weather, ( and dealership couldn't find out why last summer ) and now the heat sucks this burning PTU fluid stink into the car in the cold weather. So much for the new car smell experience here. I only had the seals done, never a full PTU replacement but understand it is just the same PTU with this updated seal. All work done by the same master tech each time who when I talked to said these were good cars except for all the leaking PTU's and he has done many seal replacements since 07. I believe this is a Ford issue and not a tech installation issue and have no faith in Ford since this is now an issue going on 3 years. But they do not ALL leak so what's the deal here ?? And each time it is repaired, all the spilled fluid has to burn off the exhaust again. Really hate that smell... Anyway, after the cam phaser and drive train issues with my F150's and now this stinking smelling PTU issue, I am tired of this complete and total waste of time. So I took my losses and just dumped the Edge last weekend and purchased an 09 Dodge Ram. We have had a Grand Caravan since new, now with 150k+ miles with NO service issues. Hope to have better luck with this than by last 4 Ford purchases. Buddy has an 04 Ram and tows his boat with it. No issues either. Only I hope Dodge is still around in a few years ! Good bye Ford. And thanks guys, I figured out the issue due to your posts here. Good luck and all the best with this one. Kevin
  9. Sounds like whoever programmed it screwed up, or SCT's baseline stock PCM program was not matching your strategy hex code. I just flashed the Edge back to stock this morning. Less than 1.5 minutes to do this. ( good chance it is being trading in tomorrow so I am removing the bolt on's today ) I have tuned 3 different Ford vehicles now with no issues. Lucky in this area I guess, but I have seen a couple guys on the trucks forum get no starts or errors in the middle of the flash. A real PIA when this happens but thankfully, not toooo often. Sorry to hear this man. And I respectfully disagree on any realized performance gains using most of the bolt on's on these Edges, and I mean 'realized'... Your PCM is factory set for stock parts. Period. You need a knowledgable tuner to tap into various areas you are looking to modify. You will never realize the performance gains from an intake, exhaust and the "paper weight" mod. Edge already has the e-fans and have not seen an UD pulley or ignition system upgrade setup yet. Obviously, this is my opinion but is based on my experience with modding 4 Ford vehicles, 2004-2008 model years.
  10. I'm assuming you guys are obviously looking to boost performance here. Just curious as to why you would waste time and money with anything initially before getting a tuner. You will never feel the performance increase on an intake, throttle body spacer ( aka : paper weight ) or exhaust and the tuner is cheaper than exhaust and not much more than an intake. Also, it is the simpliest install, 5 minutes, while you sit in your drivers seat and watch the cool little display on the xcal3... You can also flash back to stock in less than the initial 5 minute flash and reload the tune in even less time ( since it does not need to save out your factory tune after the initial load ) and never gets your hands dirty. And you are missing the ear to ear grin when you stand on it and do a 0-100 mph sprint after you load the 93 octane max performance tune.. such a shame
  11. Drove the Edge to work today. Parked and open door and it stinks again. Going back to dealer next Thursday for 15k oil change and have this looked at again. I'm at two bad seals now. Also looked at Kelly Blue Book and trade in is only 22,900 on a fully loaded '08 limited. I haven't driven it for two weeks but was eager to dump it before but may ride it out for a bit longer since it is the wife car The trade in value is a bit depressing on new vehicle owned for only 8 months..
  12. Bad news on the "no fix" situation we appear to be in. My .02, ( cause I know that's all it may be worth to some of you guys ! ) just dump the car. I got x-plan with $1500 in rebates and financed it at 0% through Ford credit. Not upside down on trade in, at 14k now, so this car is gone as soon as weather breaks and a new car will not get pelted with cinders and salt. My last seal kit looks like it is leaking, you guys are now reporting the updated PTU with that updated seal already installed is also leaking so I'm not dealing with this for years. Mine has had a burning smell since shortly after purchase last May and I mentioned at the 5k oil change and all was reported as well. Thanks to this post, we got to the bottom of it. Kinda ruins the 'new car smell'.. Not a bad little car though, vista roof is awesome, the nav and sync are great, sets high standards for the next one, but definately not an AWD Ford until this mess is well past. The AWD setup is great on snow covered roads. Talked to other local Edge owners who said the FWD model sucks in the snow.
  13. Here are my two trips and what was done. The 1/30/09 below was supposed to be the latest seal kit as of this date. 12/9/08 : Miles 10,841 - PTU Seal Leak - Part # 7E5Z*7275*D Install seals and deflector, retest ok. 1/30/09 : Miles 13,328 - PTU Seal Leak - Part # 8T4Z*7275*A Kit
  14. Just picked up Edge tonight. Smells real bad, not sure if fluid is just burning off Y pipe. Finally got receipts from the two service trips. 12/9/08 : Miles 10,841 - PTU Seal Leak - Part # 7E5Z*7275*D Install seals and deflector, retest ok. 1/30/09 : Miles 13,328 - PTU Seal Leak - Part # 8T4Z*7275*A Kit It did not smell this bad on the 12/9 service trip when I picked it up. Probably will take it back tomorrow and have them check again, have a few errands to run tonight so will take the Edge and see if still dripping tomorrow.
