  1. Thanks once again. Advance Auto struck again with the wrong part listed and sold me an over fifty buck part. I found the correct part on Rock Auto and it got here today. Now to go back to Advance for a refund.
  2. I wanted to change my PCV today but the Motorcraft replacement pat has an electrical connection on it that I can't feel one the one that's on the car now. I can't see the valve on the motor so I'm not sure, but I don't want to remove the old one unless the new one will work. I also didn't see a connection in any You Tube videos I watched. Also several on line parts suppliers show the electrical connector like my replacement valve. Maybe an updated replacement part?
  3. Check out U tube for off roading the MKX. I found a bunch. One was a comparison of of three or four SUVs and the guys doing the video were surprised that the MKX did as well as the others, but also did it smoother. The trail looked pretty rough, but far from rock climbing. I had fun watching them.
  4. I'm not computer smart enough to post a picture, but here's what shows on the bill. 5 qts synthetic trans fluid roughly $30.00 labor to replace the tss and oss $274.00 Plus $ 104.00 for Motorcraft sensors. Bill isn't showing a filter replacement.
  5. Thanks for the help. I took the tail light off and followed the wires and picked the correct one so it's working now.
  6. He called this morning saying it was done. I was really nervous over this this but it drove fine on the way home and during a little longer test drive. I asked his mechanic what he did to get it going, and he said he took it back apart and disconnected everything they touched, reconnected it and it started working. The total total bill including a tranny fluid and filter change was just over $320 plus $104 for the parts. Less than I expected.
  7. I've given up on this guy. I went there yesterday afternoon since he hadn't at least called me the day before with an update. He told me he replaced the two sensors and put it back together and now it won't shift. He has to take it apart to see what he did wrong. This is starting to remind me of the old commercial when the mechanic says (Wow boss I get to fix a transmisyone ).
  8. WWWPerfA_ZN0W So I put it in the shop to get it checked out. Shop went into the computer and found a few odd codes and one for the OSS that he said was old. I don't know how he could tell, but I'm not an expert on this stuff. I gave the shop a good description of what happened, and he suspected a glitch in some modules and to keep driving it to see if it happened again. After the info WWWPerfA_ZN0W posted ( Thanks again ) and some research on U-Tube I ordered the parts and today it's in the shop so he can replace both sensors. His plan was that if it happened again he was going to check the whole system for a bad connector or module. I told him to replace the parts because I have some trips planned and had to rely on the car not breaking down somewhere in Tin Can TN.
  9. Update. A company called Trendyforce USA is the scam company. I never received the camera from them and they refused to do a refund. I filed a complaint with the BBB, who couldn't find this company by the phone numbers they listed nor at either they provided. I went to the credit card company who were able to recover the money for me. This scammer also does business under other names but they all lead to Trendyfore's web site, so be aware. I got a cheaper, better reviewed camera from Amazon and I'm happy with it.
  10. Thanks for the info. Never good to see a post that starts with "Oh no", but it could have been worse.
  11. I was driving from PA to NJ to see the grandkids and had trouble on the way. I'm hoping to get some help so I can try again Friday. I stopped for a meal about half way there, and about ten miles back on the road this happened: First was the speedometer dropping to zero and the message saying there was an odometer error. Second was an airbag warning light and the reduced power wrench lit up but I was still moving fine at 70 MPH. I chose to return home at that point if I could. As I left the highway to make a U turn the tire pressure warning light lit up plus I could feel the power reduction system working. I stopped to check for a flat and turned it while I checked the tires. When I started it back up all the lights were off, so I started off again. The shift from the transmission was very hard, but after that it ran fine all the way home. I hooked my sort of cheap scanner up to see what I could see and came up with nothing, but I'm thinking that these warning lights have to do with the body control computer and I don't think my scanner can get into that. What do you think?
  12. I'm installing an aftermarket back up cam into my 08 MKX. Can anyone tell me the color the hot wire for the back up lights ? Thanks!
  13. Over the past couple days I've been plugging away with the swirl removal project. Clay bar, Scratch X on the heavier swirls, Swirl remover, compound followed by polish and then wax. It's a lot of work, but it's looking pretty shiny. All I have left is the two driver's side doors and the driver rear fender. I'm just going to do a couple of coats of wax on the roof. I want to get done with this so I can move on. I'm planning to rig up a bungee cord to hold the cargo floor up so I can get to the storage underneath, install a cargo net and the pieces to hold it down, Then an oil change. Still a lot to do after this.
  14. It lost seven minutes, nothing major, but inconvenient. The Chrysler gained fifteen minutes and cause me to rush up the road so I wasn't late for a doctors appointment. So I got there early and sat a little longer with the sick people.
  15. As above, my clock is running slow. It has the basic system without Nav. It's a little weird because it's parked next to my Chrysler convertible that also started running slow a month ago. Is there anything I could do to fix this myself? Thanks.
  16. I bought an 08 MKX in January and it has this problem. I hand washed it a week ago and it still has condensation in, It didn't seem as bad when I first got it but the temps have been wacky for a few weeks now. We had a day last week that reached a high of 65 and down to 27 at night. most days have been cloudy and temps below normal which isn't any help. I'm glad I found this post.
  17. So far I've done the hood, front fenders an bumper and the rear hatch and bumper. I found that the UC can be skipped and it works out OK. There's a noticeable difference in the parts I've done. Not perfect, but very good. Plus the satisfaction that comes from doing it myself. Going forward the MKX will either be hand washed or spray washed, so as I own it it will only get slowly better then it is now.
  18. Neither one is it. The one I'm hoping to get goes over the rear view mirror and features a front camera as well as the back up camera. Another big plus to me is it will record the rear view when it's in back up mode. The middle two thirds of the mirror shows the view to the rear as well. It works independent of the OEM system, which I don't think I have on my MKX. I checked with Garmin on the one they have and it is in stock. This one works through the GPS I have but won't record anything so I'd have to leave the forward dash cam I have in it and it would only work when the GPS in in the car. A big plus is that being wireless it could easily be move to whatever car I would drive that day.
  19. I"m having a tough time getting an aftermarket back up camera. Is anyone else finding this? I found one I really liked for my MKX. Great price and everything I wanted in a backup camera. Feb 18th I placed the order and the confirmation e-mail said it would ship in 7 to 21 working days. A few days before that time was up they said they need another 10 to 15 working days to ship the camera. that time will be up April 5th. If I don't have it by then I'll contact the credit card company. I started looking for another one and found a Garmin wireless camera that will work with my GPS. Garmin just released it, and I could live with that one. It looks like it would be easy to move from car to car. So I went to Amazon to price shop, and found it listed, but they said it would take from one to two months to get it. What the heck is going on?
  20. This turned out to be an interesting thread. I'm going to experiment with the order I'm using the products in and do a spot without compound to see if I could skip that step. That would be a timesaver.
  21. I had a busy day. The weather got nice enough o do some work on my new to me MKX, I started on the swirls in the black paint, polished the wheels put in a new cabin filter and LED puddle lights and license plate bulbs. I also treated the leather inside and rinsed the motor off.
  22. I'm retired so I don't have a lot to do this time of year anyway. I've never used a machine so I'm nervous about trying one, And my life's a lot simpler when I'm outside and the wife is inside :). The swirls aren't as bad on mine as some of the pictures others posted . so far I've done the front fenders, and since the sun came out today I got to compair the finished door to the yet to be done door. Big difference, so I'm pleased with it.
  23. I finally got the chance to start on this today. I only did a front fender as a test but I'm please with the way it came out. I started with Mother's clay bar followed by Meguiar's Scratch X in a few deeper scratches. Then a buffing using Maguiar's Ultimate Compound, Swirl X, then Ultimate Polish and gold class carnaba wax. All of this was done by hand and applied with a foam pad. What a difference between the finished fender and the untouched door. Thanks again for all the guidance and and suggestions.
  24. A bump for an old thread to say thanks to all vets. I served in the Marine Corps from 69 to 73 as an infantryman. I was in Vietnam with 1/5 starting at An Hoa, then moving to the First Tanks compound and lastly Hill 34. I was wounded twice and rode down two helicopters when the pilots were wounded. luck was with me because both were close enough to the ground and just hit hard. In one the co pilot was able to fly it, the other wouldn't fly so we stayed with it until it was recovered. I then joined the NJ Army National Guard 24 years including a four year active Army posting. I retired in 95 shortly after the middle east got going.
