  1. Thanks for the reply. I had a 2007 and we really liked it. The 13' sport is awesome. I knew the synch had problems early on but wasn't sure to what extent and if the system got better.

  3. Looking at buying a 2013 sport. I've read a lot of negative things about the synch system. Are they're still issues with the 2013 model years? What years were problematic? Any user opinions on how they like/dislike the synch?
  4. I think this was the demise of my 3.5. Unfortunately my check engine light had been on with a O2 sensor so I noticed no codes.. She's toast now!
  5. From everything I'm reading, taking it out the bottom is the preferred method. I don't have a vehicle lift. Looks like I'll have to Jack the vehicle up until I have enough clearance to get the motor out. Another member has a post on doing it this way.
  6. Can the transmission be left in place?. I've never pulled a front wheel drive motor before.
  7. Thanks for the reply. I may do that. Just trying to gather information before I start. I guess some people remove the sub frame and drop it from the bottom. The salvage yard checked their manual and said top also.
  8. Hello, Can the motor be removed from the top of the car or does it have to come out from the bottom? Thanks.

  10. Getting ready to do this now. There's not a lot of information out there. So the motor has to be dropped out the bottom? I'm getting conflicting reports on taking it out from the top vs dropping it out the bottom. Did you use a manual?
  11. The salvage yard sounds like a good idea.. I am thinking of having the dealer fix the p.t.u.and taking care of the convertor and 02 sensor myself. Dealer tried selling my wife a used Pontiac g6..what?I mean really! Even with all the problems I am having I still like the edge..there's no way I'm down grading to a Pontiac.. They also had a pre-owned 2008 edge they would sell us for $25,000..I'm sure they would! To there credit though they would give us $1000.00 more than what we owe on the edge as it sits..
  12. Well it seems my 2007 Ford edge SEL now needs the PTU replaced at a cost of $1600.00 and a catalytic convertor and 02 sensor as well ($1300.00)..Plus transmission fluid change at $189.00. All this comes after the ECM was replaced. When the ECM was replaced it was covered ( barely at 78,000 miles ) under the 80,000 mile warrenty. Not so lucky this time as the car has over 80,000. Total price comes to $3500.00 this is includes diagnosis plus oiul change..Not sure what I will do now. The srevice rep. suggested I talk to a salesman and trade the edge in. This is ridiculous. I bought the car preowned with 24,000 miles on it and currently still owe $8000.00. Car has been at dealer for 2 weeks now while I try and decide what to do. Sales department is lacking in customer service, does not seem interested in working with us on this. I think I am going to have the PTU fixed and see if I can replace the convertor and 02 myself and save some money. Any suggestions on what to do? This is the first car I have ever had this many problems with. I own a pontiac with 170,00 miles that has had no major problems and a chevy with 180,000 miles still running strong with no major problems. Seems Ford has dropped the ball with the Edge.
  13. When I first went to the dealer and explained my problem they never said it would be covered under warrenty and no TSB's were yet to be issued. So my plan was to replace the COP's and plugs myself and have Ford replace the PCM since they would have to flash it. I ended buying 4 COPs at $80 a piece and spark plugs. I then had the vehichal towed in to the dealer for the new PCM. While it was in the shop they called and said they were going to replace all the COP's, spark plugs and new PCM under the 80,000 mile poweretrain warrenty but they were unable to reimburse me for the COPS and plugs I had bought. i was unable to return the COPs I had purchased so I was out a little money. I was just glad I didn't have to pay for the PCM..Good luck with your case. Post the out come for future refrence.
  14. It's nice to see this problem is getting straightened out now. I was totally in the dark when my PCM went out.Yes this problem is covered under the 80,000 mile powertrain warrenty. The dealer replaced all of my COP's, spark plugs and new PCM at no cost to me. I barely made the 80,000 mile mark as my Edge pulled into the dealer with 79,820 miles on it. My check engine light also came on after the work was done throwing a convertor code / O2 code. The dealer said this was not related to the PCM issue. Check engine light is still on.Edge runs fine.

  16. I have recently expierenced problems with my 2007 Edge. Started out as sudden loss of power, missing, sputtering and a burnt smell. Code reader showed faulty COP coils. Upon further examination one of my COP coils was severly melted. Talked to the dealer 3 weeks ago where they said mine was they second one they have seen but no TSB had been issued as of then addressing the problem. Ford has since then released a TSB addressing the problem. Seems there are some faulty PCM's out there causing the COP's to stay on thus melting the COP coils. Ford is replacing all of the COP coils, spark plugs and PCM at no cost to the owner. There are some stipulations for the vehical to qualify, one being 80,000 miles or less. Hope this info. will help someone. Hats off to Ford for making this right..
  17. Still looking for answers.. went to Ford dealer after this happened and wouldn't ya know it they had one in the shop with the same symptoms.. They replaced all of the COP coils, plugs and ECM for a total of just over $2000. I'm changing the plugs and COP coils myself to save a little money then I'm having the dealer install the ECM since they have to flash it..I found one other thread on this site where the owner was having the same problem. Unfortunately they never posted how it was resolved. I just wonder how many edges are having this same problem? I replaced the COP coils with BWD's and funny thing was I could only get 2 of them the rest were on back order. Hopefully I can finally get the Edge to the dealer next week. I'll post the out come for future refrence..
  18. I would like to know the problem was ever discovered? I have a 2007 Edge That is currently expierencing electrical problems. While driving at highway speeds I had sudden loss of power and missing. Code reader showed that 2 COP coils were bad. Upon examination The COP coil was melted, i replaced it and the code reader said the new COP coil was bad. Mind you I never started the car just turned the ignion to ACC. to read the code reader. I uninstalled the newly installed COP coil pack out for examination and it was very hot with a burnt smell. I could definetly see this catching on fire if the car was left unattended or if this went undetected. Seems the problem comes from a faulty PCM keeping the COP coils a constant on position.
  19. D3ky I would like to know how you resolved this issue. I have a 2007 with 80,000 miles and I am expierencing the same problems you describe. I contacted Ford dealer explaining my problem and asked if they have seen this before. He said they had one in the shop as we spoke with the same issue. They had replaced all of the COP Coils, spark plugs and the PCM for a total price at just over $2000.00. The mechanic said the PCM turns each coil pack on/off. Seems the PCM malfunctions and keeps the COP coil in the " on " position thus overheating it and utimately melting the COP coil.
  20. I have a 2007 Ford Edge with a bad ignition coil. The problem occured all at once, the car had sudden loss of power, erratic idleing and just ran terrible. Tested it with a code reader and it shows two codes, a "p0356" and a "p0353" wich states ignition coil "c" and ignition coil "f" malfunction. Could anyone tell me in what order the coils are marked? I removed the front three coil packs and found the center coil pack was obviously burnt. I hopeing that the other bad coil is in front as well, just not as visibly damaged. Just trying to avoid removing the intake.
