A had a couple 2g, didnt mod them that much before leaving that platform. Lol, who would have thought the 2g would act like that.

Yeah it will be. the 400 I have now is super boring though. I dont have traction issues due to spool time and the fact that I built the car with high hp traction in mind makes it super enjoyable, but still too slow. If the 650 plus becomes a pain I can always get a reduced hp map or two. May build the OEM motor for 550ish with more longevity, and swap the more built into another chassis. Either a Rossion q1 or a 15+ Mustang. Rather have the q1 of course.  Got it all worked out, lol

I wish Cobb had Accessport support for the Edge, SCT makes me cringe everytime I use it. Lol

Honestly if I did it again I’d build another 1G. 2Gs are great for mid 400’s and full interior/full street car because they handle great and high 10’s/low 11’s on street tires makes life a breeze. Once you push them though you start to see the “comfort and handling” has interfered with “because racecar” lol.

My 1G was rock solid even with 500awhp. It would just straight get down, traction everywhere, you could tell they built it tough for rally stages.

I do wish we had some better tuning options. I love the Cobb AP stuff for sure.

Its just one mount. Not bad at all.

My Focus ST is on full mounts, no balance shafts, 8lbs flywheel, and all sorts of chassis bracing. It can shake martinis at idle. Sets off my Edge's alarm when I start it, lmao. 400whp and just waiting on me finishing my motor build to take it to 650 plus whp. The GF wears ear pro in it, rofl

So im treading lightly with the Edge.

Man funny story, my 1G actually wasn't all that bad with the extra chassis bracing and such it had for the NASA rally's it was setup for even with solid mounts.  My 2G with all it's fancy double wishbone blah blah and almost no chassis bracing vibrated like it was designed to from the factory.  And 650whp in a FWD is gonna be a handful.  My 2G AWD made 647 way back when it was on the HX40 and even on DR's on all four it would iceskate when pinning the gas on the street.  I couldn't imagine FWD struggles.  Lol.  Gonna be gnarly from a roll though.

Yeah, motor mounts help get that power to the ground for sure. Eliminating driveline slop is always beneficial. Especially the engine/trans. Tightens up the front end too. Lots of gains here, including cabin noise/vibes. Which some people are super sensitive to. It's the mods only negative.

    Worth a try at least.

But I'm honestly not worried about the NVH.  I've had a DSM with welded solid motor mounts and no balance shafts and 288 cams.  Lol.

I'm always on Sport, traction control off, lol

Well, i had traction issues on the 245 Geolandars. Then I installed the CPE rear motor mount.  Dramatically better traction after that, on the 245 Geolandars none the less.

So going with literally the best Sport All season tire made, jumping up to 275 width, while much lighter rims work against traction, this setup seems to just have tons of grip.  All with a much sportier ride from the stiffer sidewalls which is awesome.

Probably going with H&R springs, Bilstein adjustable shocks/struts, and an Addco rear swaybar at some point.

So the CPE mount really makes that

much of a difference? It’s the rear wheels that I break loose worse than the fronts. Wheel hop definitely occurs if I pin the gas on a low roll though so maybe the RMM is in order soon.  It’ll at least help the front wheel hop.

  5. I honestly think it was a marketing thing.  The european models have a much higher tow rating, and honestly the engine and trans can take it.  I found a post recently where someone towed a huge caravan/mobile home behind them up and down the mountains of CO, with a trans temp gauge, and their temps were perfectly fine.  I think it's honestly to encourage people to buy their more expensive, more premium model trucks if you plan to tow at all.  Why buy an F150 or an Explorer ST if you can tow 3500-4000lbs with a significantly less expensive Edge?

I've personally towed a 1998 Eclipse GSX AWD, with a spare engine, and a ton of parts, roughly 9 hours and my temps were great.  Didn't struggle at all.  Braking was good, would absolutely do it again.  I know I'm bumping a little, but figured this info was relevant.

  6. Hey fellas, kind of a shot in the dark here, but I’m in need of the center and drivers side exterior sunroof trim/strips. I’m hoping one of you guys either have a wrecked edge or an edge in your local junkyards that you can get these off of. They’re like $200 a piece brand new and I just refuse to pay that much for a plastic trim piece. Would really like the clips included but not a deal breaker if not.

I’m in central NC, but will travel a decent distance to meet up. Or I can just pay for shipping. I’ve included a picture where the parts I need are circled in red.

let me know! Hook a friend up with early Christmas present!

  7. WGDC is wastegate duty cycle. Depending on the value input, it controls boost up or down by activating or closing the WGA.  It means he’s commanding it to do one thing and instead of being steady it’s running what boost it wants. If it was a solenoid or etc wrong there’d be a code for sure.

Boost leak/vacuum leak test is paramount. It also may be a leaking BPV because apparently this platform struggles with that when you turn up the wic.  Honestly an easy way is you could spray the intake track, then intercooler piping, then vacuum lines in order and one at a time with soapy water and watch for bubbling. Have someone rev it too while you watch.

  8. I was wondering if I was the only one annoyed by this. Finally one day I got sick of it and zip tied a small bag around the mirrors, washed the car, and it helped so much. I just wiped the mirrors off with a damp cloth(with no pressure applied) to remove dust/debris, then detail sprayed it, waxed it, and they both turned out great.

Before this this I was very tempted to just wrap the mirror in a chamois cloth to absorb everything. Lol.

I will never modify another vehicle other than a tune after this one. lol. Power is fun, but getting it work properly has been much more involved than I ever imagined.

There’s a saying I live by: “don’t seriously modify your daily”. A lot of people break this rule and are miserable when it fails. Basic stuff and if you have a go fast bug, get a separate car so when it’s down you’re not down too.

@CrackedDSM There is one member on here running 295/35/21. I can't remember who it is but I believe that individual has upgraded turbos and they seemed to love the traction offered, but IIRC he is running summer tires, not all-seasons. I do get a little slip with my E50-tuned-but-otherwise-stock 2015 AWD running 265/40/21 tires. I am riding on the heavy ass OEM wheels as well, if I had some light weight wheels, I am certain traction would be an issue.

I should mention there’s an issue with my edge (U0415 abs control module communication error) that has completely disabled traction control and stability control(among others) so there are zero nannies preventing wheel spin.  So my traction issues may not be something most have to deal with.

and I could definitely go aftermarket lighter wheels with a 305 width but at that point I’d worry about grenading the PTU, axles, diffs or all of the above. Lol.

  11. Sorry for bumping an old thread, but I have these exact tires on my '15 Edge Sport AWD, but in a 245 width instead of 265, on my oem 20" wheels.  Ride is great, wet weather traction is good, no complaints.

Except one.  On an LMS 93 aggressive tune, I can break the rears loose a little basically on demand in perfectly dry weather.  On the E30 aggressive tune I have now, traction is 100% a problem especially from a dig I have to launch at 35-50% throttle, hold it until roughly 10-20mph, then floor it.  Anything else is just wheel hop and all four wheels burning.

The 265 might be a little better, but if you're aggressively tuning the edge and looking for traction, avoid these.  That is literally the ONLY complaint though, amazing ride quality, no road noise, wear is exceptionally well.  Great tire.

Yea I'll try to get a video of a 0-60 run.

I wish I had a factory freak, but I swear it seems like every car I own is the opposite lol. It probably is some sort of vacuum leak somewhere with 117k on it.

I remember when I learned what a factory freak was, when the 2013 GT500's came out I read an article that talked about how 1 out of every 100 GT500 crankshafts did not need a tungsten counter weight. I do not recall the weight of the counterweights used (certainly its different for every crankshaft depending on how far out of balance it is) but being tungsten on a rotating component I would imagine it's relatively very heavy.

Definitely. There are so many vacuum lines and sources on these engines I honestly wouldn’t know where to apply a boost leak tester to pressurize the system. On a dsm we just hook a pvc endcap to the inlet of the turbo and pressurize it that way but on these engines...no idea. Lol. And visual inspections only yield so much. Only thing I can think of is inspect the lines to the WGA and bend/twist them to see if any are cracked.

Well I got the E50 tune dialed in from Torrie at Unleashed. I have to say I'm VERY impressed with the tune. I also have a 93 octane tune from Torrie and the driveability of the E50 tune is just like stock. The driveability of the 93 tune isn't terrible, or even bad, but you can tell it is an aftermarket tune. The shifting strategy of the E50 tune is incredibly smooth. Unfortunately I don't have Dragy or dyno, or track results to back it up, but I would imagine the improvements are at least in line with (but probably better as he has an E30 tune and I have an E50 tune) the Dragy results posted by @CrackedDSM on his November 15th posts in this thread.

Has anyone ever had issues dialing in the Waste Gate parameters during tuning? Torrie asked if I had ever done any turbo work because the turbo control values look weird. To the best of my knowledge the vehicle is 100% stock, but I also bought it with 76k miles.

Good stuff! Definitely made a huge difference for me. I did a dragy run recently of 12.85 @ 106 and 0-60 in 4.6 seconds because I finally got lucky with traction, so it’s really moving!

Also, you may have a pinhole leak in the wastegate vacuum hoses. Also could be a sticking wastegate actuator? I’m not sure honestly. You might just have a factory freak(it’s a good thing).

    Record a 0-60 video! That’ll say a lot even without a dragy.

  14. I test every shipment. I used to be a manager for my local Sheetz so I know their schedule. If I didn’t know I’d probably test every couple weeks.

One week is was E60, the next it was E79. That would’ve been a drastic difference in e content had I not tested it.

  15. Definitely have to measure the content. Elsewise you’re just guessing and that could be catastrophic. Thankfully the trims and a few other indicators will be throwing up red flags when he views your logs, but I would definitely spend the $15 for an e85 test kit off of amazon. Worst case scenario you can use a baby bottle or any kind of 100mL test tube and a math formula if you’re cheap. Lol.

What's the best way to upload an Ethanol tune? Do it at the house then calmly drive to the gas station, fill it up then change the tune? some other way?

Honestly what I did was fill the gas tank first, then drove super gently home not hitting boost. With e30-e50 the stock ecu can adjust cruising and idle trims enough to be safe. Won’t be perfect and I wouldn’t drive like that forever. Lol, but these ecus are awesome.

Thing I like about this way is it gives more time for the fuel to properly mix in your tank. Hit some bumps, take a curvy road, if no one is around at low speeds do the “clean your tires” trick of pulling the wheel back and forth like your doing the worlds smallest, slowest, invisible slalom course. Lol.

Let us know the difference it makes though! Super curious. If you were closer to nc I’d lend you my dragy.

Yes, i am testing the E85 regularly.  its very consistent.  I lean towards e35 to be sure.  I have 275/40r20 Pirelli Centurato sport all seasons and they provide enough traction.

I am running 4.9-5.0 in positive DA on the regular.  Basically at 55 degrees, its a 5.0 or under 0-60 everytime.

That’s honestly what needs to happen on mine. I need stickier tires and losing some rotating mass in the process wouldn’t be bad either. But even just a tire change would help immensely. What I have to do to avoid spinning on the line is brake boost to 2200, hold about half throttle, release brake, continue to hold half throttle til it gets around 20-30, then floor it. If I could do a proper full rip launch that’d be great.

But honestly it’s gotta be something with the trans. I’ve heard there’s some transmission gear they can’t tune around that kills life after 60, maybe that’s whats going on.

  18. 13 hours ago, 19EdgeSTeve said:

Right on.  I just realized that you have a Ford Edge Sport.  I have the ST, so different transmissions, and perhaps LMS is afraid to push it.  anywho, The only noticeable difference has been 0-60.  But only minimal.  The top end power is a joke and honestly is worse than the 93 Tune.

    93 0-60 Best run 4.93

    E30 0-60 Best run 4.88

    93 best 1/4 13.47 102

    e30 best 1/5 13.53 101

ZFG is telling me that they can hand me an e85 tune on the stock pump (+intercooler) and easily hit 12s.....and easily hit 13.2 on e50 otherwise stock.

Those are good numbers but I can see what you mean when you say the top end kills you. That’s crazy! You can see on mine where traction kills me. If I can get the 0-60 down to 4.6-4.7 I’d be booking. Need moar traction!

You have the altitude advantage too, I saw in one of your dragy results your DA was negative 1100. Lol, I’m jealous of that for sure. It’s definitely gotta be something exclusive to the edge ST tune because the top end difference on mine is phenomenal. In the 93 tune I was so disappointed at the top end. On e30 it’s straight ridiculous.

These tigerpaw 245’s gotta go, man. No traction is killing me. I’m willing to bet at an actual drag strip I’d get better results because of the prep and be in the 12’s. I do eventually want to go with lightwheels wheels and some sticky tires but one step at a time.  Currently getting my EMT certs so time and money is at a premium.

Couldn't hurt to reach out to LMS and say hey, this douche in an edge sport has way better top end on his e30 tune than I do, is there something different in the st tune?

Edit: just thought of something, how are you blending your e30? Are you testing the e85 and then mixing based off of that? Or are you just mixing e85 and pump without testing?

  19. 18 hours ago, 19EdgeSTeve said:

Do you have any Dyno or Dragy numbers to back that up?   I do, and the 93 and e30 might as well be the same tune.

    Yep, I sure do.

LMS 93, 100% stock everything else. Spun a little bit, top end not nearly as good.

    6BFE79B3-C11C-4279-82C2-121FFE957175.thumb.png.02586fd91692ba049e363b079e1351d1.png

LMS E30 tune, stock everything else, same tires, same everything as before. Traction is a joke at this point, all four wheels spin like crazy, have to feather it/keep 50% throttle when launching to get a good launch. Throttle response much better, mid range better, top end HUGE improvement. With a better launch/more traction it’d be in the 12’s easily.

maybe theres something wrong with your car or maybe the tune wasn’t actually uploaded. Made a significant difference in mine.
