I am a bit confused. I would assume for liability reasons; the sunroof glass is safety glass. What is the difference between tempered and safety glass?

Also, I see very few posts about cracked sunroof glass. I am thinking that 90 percent of all Edges never have this happen. Other than something hitting the glass what would cause this.  Maybe in Freezing climates?

Yes, thermal shock can cause the glass to fracture. However the most common reason (according to the glass replacement company who did my roof glass) for Edge sunroofs to crack is stress, caused by the vehicle flexing whilst in use.

Also, take note that the 2016 Edge has acoustic Laminated Roof glass. Newer (2019+ I believe) are regular tempered glass. Replacement glass from Ford for all models is also tempered glass. So if you are the type of person who gets irritated from additional sounds, I would recommend getting used replacement glass from a 2016-2018 model and ensure it has "Laminated Safety Glass" written on it.

That's interesting. When the laminated glass sunroof cracked on my Edge it was replaced with toughened/tempered glass, but I didn't notice any increase in noise as a result.

Did you just get the glass replaced, or did you have to get a new sunroof? Our glass just cracked and our shop is saying we need a new sunroof and that you can’t just replace the glass. They quoted over $10,000! Help!

I had the panoramic roof glass on my 2018 ST-Line crack just like that at about 10,000 miles.

Luckily it was covered by the windscreen policy included with my car insurance, so just had just a nominal sum to pay (£50).

The company that did the replacement told me that Ford no longer supply this roof glass laminated (it just isn't strong enough for this use and they all crack like that eventually) ; they provide only toughened glass (aka tempered) which is about 10 times more resistant to breaking.

Only problem is if it does break all the tiny little fragments come crashing down on your head and get everywhere inside the cabin, including inside the roof mechanism.

The work was completed in less than an hour. I think the guy who fitted mine said the replacement glass cost about £1,000.

Be thankful you don't have it.  The motion sensor cannot differentiate an intended kick from other movements.  It's easily triggered while loading and unloading or just cleaning off the rear window.  It's a real annoyance.

Yep. I had the tailgate come down on my head once because the cat walked under the car!

It seems a good feature in theory, but in my experience it rarely works when you want it to, and often works when you don't.

Does the IPAD actually charge of a standard USB port? Although the Red requires +5vdc and Black is common, I thought that the IPAD required 2.0 & 2.75 on the D+ & D- pins to initiate charging?

All the iPods I have (2 Classics, 5 Nanos and a Touch) charge OK on the USB sockets. I've not tried an iPad though. That might be different.

I would just copy the music to a thumb drive and use that. I didn't know MP3 players were still a thing. Smart phones pretty much rendered them obsolete.

They aren't obsolete for those of us who don't want our music interrupted by texts, notifications and phone calls all the time and want to listen to music that isn't available on Spotify.

I usually keep about eight iPods in my Edge - seven Nanos and a Touch. The Nanos play perfectly, the Touch can be a bit buggy sometimes but unfortunately Sync 3 can't cope with any of my iPod Classics, even those with an SSD conversion.

Long time no see, but we finally did get back into an Edge here in the UK; 2017 Sport 2.0 diesel 210bhp - purchased March ‘22.

Still reasonably rare here and would like a red facelift ST Line one day, but glad to be back

Car looks great in white. There's not really much difference between the Sport and the ST-Line.
