  1. Thanks for the input. I heard about the fasteners before. Some day I'll get under the car to look around. Too much time being spent on my other car projects.
  2. UPDATE (5-MAR-2024): TLDR - I believe the heat shield by the center support bearing is/was the cause. After dealing with this periodic buzz for almost 2 years I finally decided to really look into fixing it last weekend. I tried to clamp a few of the heat shields that wrap around the exhaust, but no change. Last weekend I was under there tapping the heat shields all over and it seemed like it was coming from the foil type shields that follow the contour of the floor so I started putting some foam in strategic places to dampen the buzzing. After about 30 minutes of messing around with that, I think I found the actual cause. There's a heat shield that protects the center support bearing for the driveshaft right above the resonator. When I tapped on that I heard a buzz. I thought, hmm, interesting, what is that hitting? Turns out that heat shield was close enough to the center support bearing when it hit a resonant frequency, it would bounce (buzz) on the metal bracket that retains the bearing. I put a couple washers at the mounts of that heat shield to space it away from the bearing. So far, with my drive in to work today the buzz was not there. This afternoon will be the real test since getting on the highway from work is where I noticed it almost 100% of the time. Original Post Below: On my 18 Sport, I notice a buzz when the engine gets to about 3000-3500rpm. I really feel it in my feet and it sounds like something is vibrating (like a panel or heat shield). I did turn off the fake engine noise through Forscan and that seemed to reduce it, but that may have been my imagination. I plan to get under the car (maybe this weekend) to check, but looking for any thoughts. It's certified for another 10 months, so I could bring it to a dealer, but I'd like to know if it's common (or at least known). Anyone else experience this?
  3. Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like it's normal...or at least 2 people have same experience. I'll still inspect it this spring, but I don't expect to find anything obviously wrong.
  4. I guess anything is possible in regards to replacing struts. I hope the OE ones weren't worn out after 25k miles though. I'll get under there and inspect likely in the coming weeks, but wanted to see what others felt.
  5. First, not sure if I should have this in the generation specific forum. I bought my used 18 Sport back is mid-January with about 25k miles on it. What I noticed is the front struts seem to be 'soft' or weak. Start with my question: does anyone else notice the front struts seem to compress easier than the rear on their Gen II Sport? When going over a speed bump, the front seems to compress more and rebound fairly quickly vs. the rear compresses slightly and settles right away. The other reason the front seems to have weak struts is there's a section of highway that I drive on once a month or so. It's concrete and the expansion joints seem to be spaced just right where it feels like the front tires are really bouncing. The thought that the 21's with the shorter sidewall might not be absorbing as much, but I never felt that in my Golf R, which has basically rubber bands for tires and I don't remember feeling that in my 14 Explorer Sport. Most roads are fine and it doesn't bounce on the majority of the roads I drive, just that section of highway (and the speed bump thing). I haven't gotten under it to look around since it's still winter, but I plan to see if I can find any noticeable leaks at the struts. It's certified pre-owned, so I could bring it in, but don't want to waste my time (and possibly money) to have the dealer state it's normal. Next time we go that way, I might take our 14 Explorer sport to see if it's any different.
  6. I've owned 5 Fords. In order of ownership: 1985 Mustang GT (replaced by 89 below) 2001 Ranger 1989 Mustang Coupe (still own) 2014 Explorer Sport (still own) 2018 Edge Sport (newer addition) A few pics below. The picture of the 85 was taken on Road America.
  7. Howdy. Figured I post here first. Just got a used 2018 Edge Sport a few weeks ago. Was a recent lease return with about 25k miles on it. Reminds me a lot of my 14 Explorer Sport, just a little smaller. I'm a Ford guy. I have a 14 Explorer Sport (wife's current DD) and an 89 Mustang Coupe (~430 rwhp). I also have a 2006 GSXR750 that's essentially been my commuter bike in the summer ever since my daughter was born about 10 years ago, so I don't get to hit the backroads with it as much as I used to. I had a 2016 Golf R for a few years, but it didn't fit my (family) needs right now. With the ridiculous car market, I drove it for just under 2 years and sold it to Carmax for almost what I paid plus all gas and maintenance for the time I owned it. I basically drove it for free. Of course, that goes both ways, so the Edge was more expensive than it should be.
