  1. Funny you mention that. I also use synthetic in my small engines...lawn mower, power washer, generator, etc.
  2. I've noticed several of you like these speakers as factory replacements. Have narrowed these down as one of a final few choices for our '07 MKX to replace the factory door speakers front and rear. Just wondering how they are holding up as far as reliability and sound quality. Thanks.
  3. One good tip here is to use a strip of cheap masking tape when you wax near the black plastic areas. I always slip a little when waxing and this prevents any issues.
  4. Has anyone else noticed a rusty area that develops right outboard of the rear coil springs on the lower arm? I should have taken a pic but didn't. It is on our '07 MKX. I regularly use a diluted combination of Simple Green/water on the undercarriage of our vehicles and flush them out thoroughly and they all still look like brand new underneath. Anyway, I was thinking of wire brushing off the area in question and trying out some POR 15 chassis black.. Anyone else tried this? I've always heard good things about it but have never tried it.
  5. I guess they're not dirty, just a little condensation. Thanks for the help! I'll try it again today.
  6. All fine and dandy but I'll stick with my regular schedule of clay bar and waxing using only microfiber several if not more times a year to keep my vehicles looking good. A trip to Walmart, $10 will score you a nice bottle of Meguires NXT that will last all year (5 or so full waxing jobs) and a few afternoons of hanging out in the garage with some elbow grease over the period of a year. Our '07 MKX was rather gritty and rough around the edges when we first picked it up earlier this year and it looks better than new now and is kept that way. I always get comments on how perfect it is and to be honest, I kind of enjoy doing it.
  7. Might be a dumb question but I searched and could not find an answer. I was giving the MKX a final clay and wax today before winter hits and noticed that the puddle lamps (under the exterior mirrors) were kind condensated and dirty inside. Was wanting to remove the lenses to clean in there but can only get the one side clip loose with a small flathead screwdriver. The other side doesn't seem to want to come loose and I didn't want to twist and pull for fear of breaking the lens. Is there some sort of stupid trick for popping these out? Thanks.
  8. May be a little noisier but they look great and look much more useful than the factory issued tires. Nice choice!
  9. Here they are installed. Tire Rack is great, second time I've used them and have been very satisfied. Sent the tires directly to the tire store down the street, installation already paid for through Tire Rack. Just made an appt, drove in, put em on, and on my way. Only driven about 5 miles so no good or bad reviews yet but they sure have a ton more tread than the worn Contis that were on there before. Wish I had taken a pic of just how worn they looked. The tire, installation, and shipping costs combined from Tire Rack was about $200 cheaper than the best price I could find at any local tire store. Really crappy rainy day equals boring pics but this pic also shows the new tint on the front door windows, looks better:
  10. I thought about that but I'm kindof leery about the aftermarket HID kits. I need to some reading on it but I remember a few years ago hearing of horror stories. I also wonder if it will be an issue with our MKX since it has the adaptive headlights. Not sure how the HIDs mount, etc.
  11. Ohio is definately not a one plate state. Lived here all my life and have always had front and rear plates.
  12. Just ordered a set of new tires from Tire Rack for the '07 MKX to replace the worn Continentals that only lasted 30K miles. Not very impressed with the Contis as they are already down to the wear bars and are quite noisy and really need to be replaced before any snow starts flying as it is the wifes daily driver. Have done lots of reading and comparisons and narrowed the choice down to the Michelin Latitude Tours for the vehicle. Plus they currently have a $70 mail in rebate on a set of four. Obviously Tire Rack had the best price and I have been happy with their service from previous purchases. Done some other mechanical stuff to the vehicle since we bought it last month too: Changed oil to Mobil 1 Synthetic and a Motorcraft filter. Found a case of the filters on Ebay. Changed engine air & cabin air filters. The FP-65 cabin filter was horribly filthy and had obviously never been changed. I didn't go with K&N this time for the engine filter, figured I'd just stick with a paper filter. Got the trans fluid fushed at the dealer, they threw that in at my request for free. Kinda early to do it but I feel better that way. Might be weird, but about once a year I use a suction pump to siphon out the PS fluid resivior and replace it with fresh fluid. Mercon V of course. Also had the dealer replace the gasket under the rear spoiler and replace a saggy third brake light gasket. Not sure if this is a common problem but it was done for free under warranty. Got the the front side windows tinted to match the rear windows...looks much better and was done at a great place down the street. Switched out all the headlight, high beam, and fogs to Silverstar bulbs. I've used them for so long the yellowish factory bulbs look like crap to me. This is the first time in quite a while we have purchased a used vehicle so I go kinda nuts getting things the way I want them. Drives the wife nuts sometimes...lol!
  13. Thanks. I haven't tried removing the A-pillar trim on the MKX yet but I did remove the center radio trim peice and the associated misc. plastic stuff around there to scout out some places to stash the Sirius tuner and PXAMG cable when they come. I really dislike those little plastic screw/clip things they use to attach some of the stuff. I did pick up some hard nylon trim removal tools a few years back the really make getting trim loose easier and saves the gouges and accidental scratches that can happen with a screwdriver
  14. Not a bad idea. I've used those add a circuit things before and to be honest I forgot about them. Thanks.
  15. I have an Escort 8500 detector that we've had for several years and a hardwire plug for it also that has never been used. Was thinking of using dome light or rear view mirror power in the MKX to make a nice clean way to have the power wires tucked away. I've done this several times before on other vehicles as I don't like clutter and wires around in view. Wondering if anyone knew from exeperience which color wires would be the 12V (preferably an ignition switched source) wire in the auto-dimming rearview mirror harness or in the dome light area. Our car does not have the vista-roof. I could always use the multimeter to find them but if someone has the info already it will save me a step. Thanks!
  16. Wow...ok. So, does anyone have the p/n of the filters I need for my MKX?
  17. Can you point me to where they are located (I would assume seat bottom area) and how to access them? Probably really simple but we have only had the vehicle for a few days. Also, does anyone have a Ford p/n?
  18. Maybe I missed it but... Having just picked up a used '07 MKX equipped with the heated and cooled seats I can't help but wonder how often the seat fan filters should be changed. I found a thread on here about them being about the diameter of a baseball but no part numbers. Perhaps one of the Ford Service members on here can help me out. Thanks!
  19. Ours has 30K on it and we just picked it up used...'07 MKX. Filter had never been changed and was completely full and black. Picked up 3 filters at a the only local dealer around town that had any in stock and changed ours. Quite an improvement in air flow through the HVAC syetem. At least I have a couple more on hand to change out over the next year. I wish I had taken pics of the old one as it was a disgusting mess! I did make sure to vacuum and wipe out the housing too. Motorcraft FP-65 is the filter FYI
  20. We just got an '07 MKX and despite only having 30K the stock Continental Cross Contacts are pretty worn which I've read is common. I am looking at new tires before winter and from all I've read on here the Michelin Latitude Tour HPs are pretty much the best. I was looking at Tire Rack and also noticed that the Yokohama Parada Spec-X tires have high reviews and are also availibe in the 245/60/18 size I need. Does anyone have the Yokohamas and have some comments? They are pretty close in price. I'm willing to spend the extra for either one of these as I want to avoid the Contis. We live in Cincinnati so we have a wide array of weather. Dry, rainy, some snow and ice but only a few times a winter. We wont put many miles on this vehicle as it will mainly be my wifes daily driver and she only works about 6 miles from the house but it needs to be sure-footed in all conditions. Thanks for the help!
  21. Thanks. The dealer had just got it on off a 2 year lease and had not had a chance to even clean it yet. I can do a much better job than they would have done anyway so I just did it myself. The previous owners had kids so underneath the back seat was kind of a mess, found all kinds of junk and crumbs. I did get the dealer to throw in a free oil and transmission fluid change. Early for the trans fluid I know but I wanted to start it off fresh. BTW, in case anyone is interested I used a clay bar and 2 coats of Meguires NXT on the car all with microfiber stuff. Also a garden spayer loaded with 25/75 Simple Green/Water really got all the nastiness out from underneath on the undercarriage and engine compartment. I do alot of auto detailing in my garage over the summer months for other people kinda as a "weekend" side job so if anyone has any questions hopefully I can be of some use here on the forums. As far as I could tell this car had never been waxed, especially the wheels, and the leather had never been treated. The carpet was not exactly looking the best either but now looks great. Took alot of work but worth the effort.
  22. Heres our new to us '07 MKX. Had it since last Wednsday. I spent alot of time yesterday detailing and cleaning on it and it turned out great! Nothing special, just FWD, no Vistaroof or NAV but it does have the rear seat entertainment system. I joined this forum recently and have enjoyed cruising around reading. I will be lurking mainly in the audio/electronics/nav section as thats probably the first thing that will get modded on this car. Here are pics:
  23. The lease was up on our '07 Mercury Mariner (Ford Escape) and since leases aren't readily availible right now, we picked up a very low mileage '07 Lincoln MKX. Loaded but does not have Sirius. The Mariner had a dealer installed Sirius system put in it which I had to redo since they did a pretty crappy job. The dealer had actually just laid the reciever box on top of the guage cluster plastic and put some 2-sided tape on it...geez! Since we will still have pocession of the Mariner for a few more days I'm wondering if I could pull the harnesses and reciever box out and install it in the MKX. I guess my main question involves the whether the harness that goes to the radio on the Mariner will plug into the back of the MKX radio. There is more than enough cable length coiled up in the Mariner to reach the rear of the MKX to reach the rear drivers side area for a factory looking install. The head units in both vehicles are regular 6CD AM/FM units. I haven't had a chance to pull out the MKX head unit to look at it but it would be very convinient and basicly free if it would work. The MKX head unit has the typical AUX button on it. It's not necessary to turn the Mariner in at the end of its lease with the Sirius installed since it technically isn't a "factory" option. Thanks!
  24. Hi. Our '07 Merc Mariner is up for lease return in a few months so we have decided to upgrade to an Edge this go around. Since leases are not really availible now we are going to be buying this one. My job provides us with a nice company vehicle that we can also use a second vehicle for us so only having one vehicle/insurance payment for the two of us is great and allows us to get something a little nicer and larger than the Escape/Mariner platform. Anyway...we are looking at a FWD (don't need AWD) '09 Edge Limited in White Suede or Cinammon. I like the sport, wife doesn't really so a Limited should work fine and has most of the stuff we want anyway. We are going to opt for: The vista roof, cargo pkg (power rear gate, etc), trailer tow pkg, and remote start even though I'll probably have to get a dealer to add it. Kinda leery of letting them put one on because of the messy job they did while putting the Sirius box in our Mariner when it was new but I guess this time I'll know to check it out before we actually take delivery of the Edge. The chrome 18" wheels are fine since I don't really like the design of the chrome 20" but otherwise I'd be all over them. Looked at the Nav option but I can't see how it is worth the extra cost but we'll see if I can be talked into it. I'm definately a techy kind of guy and love gadgets to mess with but we already own 2 Garmin GPS' that are at least able to be updated so we'll see. Anyway, I've used similar online forums extensively in the past for other vehicles I've owned (like the '03 Ranger, '07 F150, etc.) to look for tasteful mods, how-tos, and other stuff and I try to help when I can too.
