  1. Unfortunately its not just in colder climates, I bought mine in July 2009, and the problem began in August 2009. The downfall here is that FORD will not do a full recall to fix them. They will only issue technical service bulletins. You can check to see if there is a service bulletin on your vehicle at www.nhtsa.gov Hard to tell at this point. The problem only occurs in colder climates. The new repair seems to work for most people but we probably won't know for sure until we go through another winter cycle. The actual problem has been compounded by service techs not following the exact repair procedure which is extremely complex compared to normal repair tasks.
  2. My husband bought me a 2010 Ford Edge AWD SEL.... had it 13 days and it was in the shop for the burning smell., the interior was falling apart., transmission not shifting right, would tach up to 7k RPM before it would shift.. That truck was a heap......If you have a good lemon law... USE IT.... DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND GET RID OF THAT AND GET YOURSELF A NISSAN PATHFINDER 2009 OR 2010. I LOVE MINE AND IT WAS CHEAPER THAN THE EDGE. My EDGE was a nightmare and i live in a state with no lemon law.... Thankfully, I put enough pressure on the dealership, and threatened to go public, so they bought it back. Good Luck ..... ] My Edge is a 2010 and has 1278 mi...Its been in twice now for the lurching foward thing(not fixed) the first time I took it in for that they said the transmission fluid was down and added 1 qt, saying it "must" have come from the factory like that ,,,,I guess they forgot to check that under the new vechile check list before I drove it off the showroom floor....My car is at the dealer again today, for the engine not engaging after stopping. It lurches and clunks when it does, feels like I got hit from behind! this has happened 4 times since I bought her. Now that I have read this forum on the transmission oil leaking I'm wondering if mine did too !!! and they just blamed it on the "factory"...I'm worried about the car hitting somthing in front of me, when it lurches forward ! I have read some other posts about this problem with NO RESULTS...Thank God, Oregon has a very effictive lemon law...I love my car but..........................
  3. I had the same problem, and still do.. I took it to the dealership, and the service manager went for a test drive with me. He told me that when the car tries to accelerate it downshifts to go faster. C'mon man, I am a female, and I may have boobs, but that doesn't mean I don't have a brain. Downshifts to go faster? when you are already doing 50mph. He felt the slip and said it was not normal on the test drive, and then when I left the vehicle, they called and said it was shifting normally. "Unable to duplicate concern". Their standard line to get away with not fixing it. I too had the double seal kit installed, after my car was bellowing smoke and stunk like burning rubber. I am getting a faint smell again. It was just done at the end of August. I had the car for 30 days and it went. I made my first payment on this heap of crap while it was in the shop, and will have to make the second payment with it in the shop again. I have made it clear to FORD that I am not going to be bringing it back 5,6,7 times. I will go directly to arbitration after the 3rd time. Go get your car checked out, but if you went to the same dealership you bought it at, don't go back to them, take it to another FORD dealership, GET MULTIPLE OPINIONS.... GOOD LUCK!!!! Slipping when accelerating? Not normal. Get it checked.
  4. I am taking it to another ford dealer today because the damn transmission is slipping all over the place and its shifting roughly..Of course they can't duplicate the concern. So going for a second opinion. I spoke with ford and informed them that I will not be going back 4-5-6 times...3 times and its off to arbitration. Not tolerating this.
  5. It is definitely the PTU, as I looked at the repair order from the dealership and it says PTU seal leaking brown/black fluid. They did put the double seal and deflector on mine, but the transmission is slipping and its taching up really high and shifting rough. I too got the "unable to duplicate concern" on that part of the order. I took the Edge on a test drive with the service manager and he told me that it was shifting roughly, then turned around and said he never said that. I had someone else in the car with me when he said it, so.... My husband flipped out on the GM and suddenly he was nice. Gave me a loaner car, not once but twice. I have not gotten under the car since they supposedly fixed it, but will after spending 2 days reading these posts. I too got a deflector but hada faint smell the other day. Mine developed after only having 1200 miles on it, and it being less than a month old. I made my first payment on that car while it was in the shop being repaired.
  6. Don't buy an AWD model...the PTU seals blow out. I have had my 2010 Edge SEL AWD for 40 days and it spent a total of 10 in the shop... PTU seal is common problem with the AWD...and the bigger the tire the more fuel you will use...
  7. well seeing as I bought my edge with 13 miles on it, and it did it right away, and i bought it on july 27th, 2009 i would say good luck. i wanted the pathfinder, same price, same options, same mileage, but much better vehicle.
  8. Its your PTO Seal... its leaking transmission fluid from your transfer case. I just went thru that same thing with my 2010 Edge SEL AWD.. the transmission skips now, but don't bother asking them to fix it, because they won't. I have brought it back 3 times and was told its shifting normally.
