  1. yup replying to myself.. I also need to know where to find the bolt clip things that attach the factory subwoofer.. mine is currently on there with toggle bolts, but I would like the factory bolts. any help is appreciated.
  2. Changing the speakers makes a HUGE difference if you have the standard stock stereo system. The audiophile junk may be OK, but even with those good aftermarket speakers are far from a waste of money. You get more clarity and more treble. I first changed out the stock speakers with some mb quart discus 6x8's for about 60 bucks and the difference was night and day in the upper frequency ranges. later I replaced the stock radio with a clarion nx409 which has 19W rms per channel and it sounded even better.. now I added an amp to them and send 75W rms they sound pretty good with 75 watts, but I think the crossover on the amp helped more than the extra power. Also those speakers aren't the best, they are lacking in the midbass department so don't take it as me recommending them, but they have nice tweeters. If I was buying again I'd look at some different speakers at that price point. I still have the stock speakers in the back so you can use the fader to compare how bad the stock ones are. Bottom line is you can read numbers on speakers all day long and can't tell which sound the best. i wouldn't worry about the power rating of the speaker too much (i have no idea what mine are rated for), just get one that is sensitive if you don't plan to amp them. get a reputable brand of speaker and you'll be ok. If I was to do it over I would go with the boston acoustics 6x8. or consider some polks, JBL, infinity, cerwin vega, kicker, etc. If money is no object people seem to like focals. If you can listen before you buy that's even better. I'll agree with blazed up on amping the speaker.. it will also make a significant difference, but don't expect good highs with a wizzercone that is on the stock drivers.
  3. yes, mine didn't come with the storage trays, it may be the bolt that the Styrofoam floor support sits on I forget. it's smaller than the seat bolts and easier to attach a ring to.
  4. I was going to use the rear seat bolt, but ended up grounding it to a smaller bolt just behind the rear seats on the drivers side.
  5. Installing audio equipment and one of the clips on both sides stayed attached to the vehicle and not the front trim panel. These are the ones that hold the front scuff panels below the door on. they have a rubber gasket and look similar to http://www.clipsandfasteners.com/Ford_Front_Door_Scuff_Plate_Retainer_p/a19421.htm ://http://www.clipsandfasteners.com/Fo...r_p/a19421.htm would these fit or does anyone have a part number for the scuff panels clips? or maybe all the different clips on this vehicle. any help is appreciated.
  6. Looking for some factory crossbars, I found some on ebay, but I asked the settler if they come with the T shaped things to attach them to the rails. The ones he is selling apparently do not. My question is are these sold separate, or do the T shaped things come with the rails?
  7. bought mine used and figured the previous owner had broke them.. they are an eyesore and I was going to order some, but I thought they were called the outer covers not inner.. makes no sense, but that's what I gathered from the parts illustration.. lucky for me the light stone color is cheaper for some reason. Please post up some part numbers if anyone has ordered them.
  8. the Styrofoam things are expensive too if you totally mess them up. I'm going to check junk yards.
  9. I am looking for the underfloor cargo trays at a reasonable price. Thanks
  10. odd thread, I have an 07 SE and all the interior lights go off after 10 minutes or it may be 5 not sure. I had all doors and the hatch open and after they went off you had to shut and open a door to get them to come back on. I like it this way, but was kind of annoying vacuuming after dark. just looked at the other thread said the key was on. I'll have to test that. i suppose you could trip the hatch latch with a pencil or something as if it is shutting just remember to unlock it.
  11. pic of my box / bezel hopefully installed tomorrow.. don't blame you man, I'd hang onto the storage compartments too as they are impossible to find for a decent price. although now that I think about it I've let stereo equipment go with all my cars.. I always think I can take it out when I'm putting it in, but when it comes to it I usually let half of it go with the vehicle. Mostly because I wanted new stuff.
  12. my 07 se creaks too..I bought it used last month didn't notice it on the test drive. maybe the previous owner was fat.. I'm gonna see if they will do anything for it when I take it in for the first time. I also have the spoiler gasket hanging out. other than those 2 issues very happy with my new to me edge. let me know if you find a fix as I'm not confident the dealer will do anything for it.
  13. got my box and sub in today... yup the thing hits the bump on the side.. I just spent 3 or 4 hours making the donut counting the hour I looked for a compass to draw a circle.. I hope the woofer doesn't hit the interior trim when I put it in . I used some shelving that I had laying around and cut it with a jigsaw.. its fits great now.. looks about 5/8 inch thick.. end how thick was your donut/bezel? my advice to people looking for an easy replacement is to check the magnet structure before purchase. the holes probably won't line up, but they are sealed anyway from the back. just throw some screws in the box and go with it. also the stock wire is thin put in some thicker wire. I have so much crap to hook up.. wiring, amp, camera, maybe another amp. It's always worth it though. baum I can't imagine having 12's in there.. I was debating on moving the spare to one side and dropping in some shallow mount 10's, but I'll give the 8 a go for now with 400 rms to the small speaker. baum, want to sell those storage compartments??? i have Styrofoam there
  14. I may be in trouble there too.. the kicker looks to have a smaller basket, you probably could have just took off that rubber boot from the magnet and stuck it in.. I'll see what I can do there when I get my box in.. the thread here said the stock woofer was 5 inches deep so I based it off that. I can make a bezel if needed as long as it doesn't cause the woofer to contact the trim. or worst case take a hammer to the basket or cut and patch the plastic if it's not bumped there for a reason. I'm fairly determined to make it work. as an afterthought I probably should have gone with the polk it looks smaller. I'm hopeful it will just drop in, each manufacturer seems to have a different definition of a inch. once I took out an infinity sub and tried to put in a pioneer sub of the same size and had to widen the cutout. another tip is instead of poly fill use fiberglass insulation it usually does a better job, but is messy. my woofer comes in tomorrow, maybe the basket won't be as big in real life as it is in the picture. The box is on a slow boat somewhere.
  15. only suggestion I can think of that doesn't include bad equipment is you say you had to add an amplifier of some type if you had to do any wiring of the speakers at all check the polarity of the speakers. If you have some of them reversed they work to cancel he sound mainly the bass frequencies. maybe the external factory Ford amplifier just doesn't output as much bass as the factory radio. if it's the one that's designed to be used with the factory sub it may have crossovers that block the bass. That is my first thought, but it could just be different as the factory 6 cd deck does seem to have the bass jacked up by default at least it did on mine.
  16. I went with a JBL GTO 8 inch woofer... I'm going to polyfill the enclosure I find that normally helps too. Not sure on the volume of the enclosure, but looking at the Kicker solo and the JBL I ordered they both call for .3cu ft of airspace.. so I'm glad yours sounds good. I'm going to put an old school kenwood amp under the rear seat if I can fit it under there. it's like 12x12x2 or something like that. Just have to wait on the brown truck for a while.
  17. got me a factory sub for 50 bucks on ebay!!! now to find me a good 8inch woofer, but want to check the mounting depth first. I'll post pics when I get this project complete.. still need to install amp, backup camera (if I ever find the reverse wire) , and the sub.
  18. The antenna being back to front should not make a difference since it just supplies coordinates to tell where you are not where you're going. Got me thinking as my aftermarket antenna is in there sideways.
  19. Thanks, I may give this a try as I haven't built a box in around 10 years. I'm too old for too much bass anyway. wire mesh that is a good idea, may look ok on the camel color too.
  20. $600 is a total rip off for that thing. I can get the edge enclosure for 70 bucks and a speaker for it for 50 or so.. don't see how a stealth box is cheaper. I think I'm going to see If I can relocate the spare to one side of the floor and then put a couple of shallow mount 10's in a custom box that fits under and supports the floor May be a wedge design with some raised 1x4's or something that support the floor on the narrow end of the wedge. I won't feel bad putting an ugly box in there with the ugly spare tire. I gotta go measure under the floor, but the foam is 7 1/2 inches high plenty of room for shallow subs. I would still like to know if the cubby box is easy to remove or not.. and if anyone has done it.
  21. I have a 2007 edge SE and would like to add a subwoofer without taking up cargo space. My rear trim panel has a storage box where the subwoofer grill is supposed to be. I want to add the factory enclosure and use my own amp and 8 inch woofer. I already have an aftermarket nav radio and new speakers, but want a little more bass. Can I remove this box and will the speaker line up semi correctly. I would put some grill cloth to make it look hopefully neat. I really wish all of the trim panels were the same(thanks a lot ford) as a new trim panel is 200 or so dollars. Anyone done this and how were the results? My other idea is to remove one of the foam things and build a box to replace it and support the floor, but the factory enclosure seems like much less work.
