  1. Believe me, I tried adjusting them up and down....and tried adjusting the seatback position as well. Nothing worked. I sent an email to Ford about this, but will be surprised if I get a reply (I'm sure they get thousands of emails/day).
  2. Edgy, I guessed the headrests were designed for crash test dummies. I don't see a lot of folks here complaining about them, so I'm going to assume I'm the exception to the normal seat fit. (I'm 6'0"). Believe me, I'm much rather have the headrests as they came out of the factory, but simply can't take my head banging against them as I'm driving. BTW...the headrests on my F-150 are canted forward too...but there's a lot more thickness to the upper 1/3 of the seatback in my truck...I guess that's why they fit just fine).
  3. And ours is named "Billie" (after Mr. Ford, of course!). We would have named the Navi "Bill", but the system doesn't let you perform a sex change operation on it. (Our Murano swung both ways). :yup:
  4. Thanks to instructions posted by Saleens7, it took me all of 10 minutes to flip the headrests 180 degrees so they are canted towards the rear instead of the front. My head no longer takes a beating while driving this great new vehicle from Ford.
  5. Steve, Congratulations on your new Edge!!!! My wife and I got one this week. I think it's the same as yours, but in Black (obviously, my wife thinks I'll be able to keep it clean!). We're loving ours.... Mike
  6. We just traded in our 2005 Murano SL (loaded with all options) for a 2007 Edge SEL+ (also loaded with just about all options). Having only driven it briefly, here's an initial impression comparison: Ride/Handling: The Edge beats the Murano handily, in my opinion. The Edge has less body roll, and provides a much smoother ride. Interior Noise: So far, the Edge wins here by a mile. The Murano was much noisier on the road than our Edge. (Haven't had the sunroof open on the Edge yet, though). Power: The two cars are pretty close here. I think the Murano has a bit more power, but the Edge's gearing provides better accelleration (in my opinion). Seats: It's a split decision here. The Edge seats feel more comfortable, but there are definitely some serious tradeoffs. The Murano's power seats had more power adjustments available (power rear tilt, for example...the Edge, for some mysterious reason, has a manual adjust lever for the seatback). The Edge provides better support. But...and this is a serious one....the darned headrests on the Edge are canted way too far forward, causing my head to bounce against them no matter how I set the seatback position. It's going to require that I turn the headrests around in the Edge, which will create a less attractive seat, but eliminate the headaches. I suspect this bothers a few people, as my in-laws own a Ford Focus that they had to turn the headrests around on, too. I almost wonder if Ford designed the headrests for crash dummies instead of real people? Navigation/Audio Unit: Again...it's another split decision. The Edge's audio provides better bass response than the Murano's Bose system...but the high end speakers are terrible when compared to the Murano. The Edge's navigation system has a clearer display than the Murano's (more pixels, I think). The Murano's Sirius radio provided a scrolling display for the song title, artist, etc. if it was too long...the Ford's system simply truncates the text. The Murano's Nav radio allows you to show your choice of the artist, genre, or song title on the top status bar at all times...and you can switch between the three by pressing the Info button. The Ford's unit seems kinda primitive in this regard. As far as I can tell, you can only see the genre displayed on the top status bar. To see the rest of the song information, you have to switch away from the navigation screen completely....and you can't do THAT while driving. The Edge does provide an auxiliary jack for your MP3 player in the console...this is (still!) not available in the Murano. All in all, I have to give this one to the Murano. Lights/Gauges: To be honest, I haven't driven the Edge at night yet. But our Murano had HID headlights, which aren't even an option on the Edge. The Edge's instruments have a better look to them than the Murano's. I do like the "puddle" lights on the bottom of the Edge's mirrors...a cool touch. I prefer the Murano's rear view mirror, as it has the compass on it. And...the Murano displays the outside temp in the nav system's display, not the green display below as on the Edge. On this one, I haven't decided who wins just yet. Anyway...the above are just my initial impressions.....I'm sure they'll be revised over the next few months.
  7. Duker, Congratulations on your new Edge! Small world....we just traded our 2005 Nissan (Murano) in on our new Edge. I'm hoping to get some miles on it this weekend and post my observations after that point.
  8. Edgy, You're right...the Japanese certainly don't have an exclusive when it comes to quality (although Consumer Reports may disagree). The Edge, from what I experienced in the brief (10 minute) ride home from the dealer, seems to be a better built car than the Murano. No rattles...everything works as it should. The car was detailed just fine at the dealership here in Broken Arrow, OK, despite the fact they had to go to Oklahoma City to pick it up today. Our salesman did a great job for us, and he was so new there we were his first sale! My wife and I appreciated the fact that he didn't pretend to know everything...he learned some of the Edge's features right along with us. When we picked the car up, the sales manager had one of their experienced salesmen (who I bought my truck from 3 years ago, as it turns out!) explain all of the controls, switches, and "knobology" to us. They asked us to come back in later this week for another cleaning, as they noticed a couple of spots their detailer missed (we're pretty picky about those types of things, and didn't notice the missed spots). If folks are interested, I could provide a better comparison of the Edge to the Murano as I get some more miles in it. So far, though, I think we're going to love this car.
  9. From our test drive, I'd rate the Edge superior to the Murano. I will, however, provide a more detailed response after I've had a chance to drive it more than a few minutes.
  10. Edgy, Yep....we test drove a couple of Ford Edges at the dealer. I felt it had the best ride, as we were comparing it to the Mazda CX-7 and CX-9. The power felt just about right, too (the CX-9 felt a little underpowered). The Edge fell right in between the two Mazdas in terms of price. We're getting rid of the Murano because of the rattles all throughout the dash that never seem to be present when the car's at the dealership (have the Japanese invented a "dealership proximity sensor" for their cars?). The rattles aren't all that bad...more of a nuisance than anything. The serious problem, though, is that over 6 times now the car won't shift into Park after driving it to work (as per my wife...I'm only "allowed" to drive the car on the weekends). She has to wait 5-10 minutes with her foot on the brake before it eventually will shift into Park. Again...the dealer can't find anything wrong with it. Other reasons we're moving to the Ford Edge today: 1. I've read a lot of reports of failed CVT transmissions on the Murano. 2. The Murano is a very noisy vehicle to drive for extended periods. If it weren't for the quality deficiencies, we'd never trade a car in this soon, Edgy. But, my wife just doesn't have any confidence in her Murano anymore....so we're doing a 39-month lease on the Ford Edge. (And the Edge will look good parked next to my F-150!).
  11. Our new Edge arrives tomorrow at our dealership here in OK. We didn't have to wait long, as they found one spec'ed as we wanted about 150 miles away, so they're gonna go get it tomorrow for us. Here's what we'll be getting: SEL + Black Clearcoat and (black?) leather interior Navigation package Vista Roof Reverse sensor Wheels (can't recall...they're the $750 option variety) Rear cargo management system Here's what we're getting rid of: 2005 Nissan Murano 35,000 miles Navigation, touring option, leather interior More rattles than most babies can stand A transmission that refuses to go into park intermittently We're excited about the Edge...and our return to the Ford family! Mike
