Overhead console, back seat, and cargo lights keep flashing when car is on or running.

Recommended Posts

I need some electrical help. I just bought a 2011 Ford Edge and have been fixing some issues that I knew were present when I bought it (was hoping the electrical issue was going to be easier). One of the issues is the interior lights keep flashing on and off when the car is running. This is what I've found while troubleshooting while the car is on.

With fuses 4 and 12 installed in the BCM, the lights on top of center console, the lights on top of the back seat and the cargo light flash. When I press the light switches on top of the center console, the lights remain on. The middle light on top of the back seats and the cargo light keep flashing and there is no light switch for those.

With fuse 4 removed, the lights on top of the center console flash, when you press the on/off switches they turn off. The middle light on top of the back seats and the cargo lights keep flashing and there is no switch on them to see if they turn off or stay on.

With fuse 12 removed, all the lights turn off. The center console lights can be turned on with no flashing when the on/off switches are pressed. The cargo light is off and there is no on/off switch. The back passenger's lights are off and can be turned on/off with the switches. None of the lights turn on when a door is opened.

No error codes on the cluster about door ajar, but the back doors don't give a warning when they are open. The only warning light on the cluster is TPMS (already bought new sensors but haven't installed them yet) but I doubt that is the issue. I don't believe the issue is the battery saver relay since the issue is still there when I remove the fuse for it. I found the attached wiring diagram on the forum, but I need one with the door switches also. Anybody have any idea what can be or can point me in the right direction to continue troubleshooting? Also, is there any good place where I can get the diagrams? Thank you.

Well after many many hours trying to figure out the issues, I concluded the BCM was faulty and causing all my electrical issues. I ordered a used one from ebay but when I tried to install it, it wouldn't let me. I researched about auto computer programing tools and I learned about FORSCAN. I used FORSCAN to try and program the new BCM and it kept giving errors. After many more hours looking through forums and youtube videos, I figured out that the previous owner changed important setting in the BCM that made a lot of electronics do crazy things. After all my research I was able to find the factory settings for my car and restore the BCM with original settings that fixed most of my issues. I still have the navigation and backup camera issue that I still need to fix but at least I wont have to drive while the interior lights are throwing me a rave party. If you haven't heard about Forscan I really suggest you look into it. That thing saved me hundreds of dollars. But if you do get it, don't go messing with your car's setting until you have a full understanding of what you are doing.
