Snowboard roof rack with the vista roof

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, just bought my new ford edge and I'm lovin it. Winter season is just around the corner and I have a question about the panaramic roof. To have a snowboard roof rack you have to have roof rails. Has anyone put the rails and the snowboard rack on an edge with the vista roof?? Thanks so much for the help.

I have 2011 Edge Sport with a Vista Roof and I just installed a complete Yakima system. Q towers, 58" crossbar and the FatCat 4 snowboard rack. The system fits well and was easy to install. You'll need the Q102 clips to go with the Q towers. (In hindsight, I should have purchased the FatCat 6 instead of the FatCat 4. It's only $10 more and it will give you a lot more space)

Here's a link with photos instead of me trying to describe how the Q Towers attach - http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?/topic/1890-yakima-q-towers-and-bamr/page__st__20__p__41248__hl__%2Broof+%2Brack__fromsearch__1#entry41248

I'm purchasing Thule feet. I already have a set of Thule bars, etc from carrying kayaks on other cars.

wouldnt that scrape the paint?

A great point which I've thought about for awhile.

I plan on using some of the invisible bra plastic material under the Thule feet. The stuff's very durable. I picked up a roll of similar plastic material at PepBoys called BodyGuard. Also, I have a few left over pieces from another vendor, I used the material on behind the cockpit on touring kayak to prevent paddle scratches from entering and exiting the boat. Also, adding a piece over the wing over the tailgate window. I rest the bow of the kayak on a carpet placed on the roof when loading and umloading, but sometimes the wind grabs the carpet at the wrong moment. The invisible bra material's a durable scratch preventor.

Hi there. I'm the owner that originally did Yakima rack install (see here: http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?/topic/1890-yakima-q-towers-and-bamr/).

I can tell you that it did not scrape the paint, even after repeated installs/removals. The clips have a soft rubbery coating and the clips exert much of their pressure evenly across the flat surfaces on both the clips and the body surfaces. There have been no issues. Read the thread and you'll find many Q & A.

Enjoy your Edges, folks !
