Cleaning Chrome Wheels

There are a lot of very good chrome polishes out there...

Never Dull Polish

Bomsaway

Mother's Chrome Polish

Liquid Glass

Autosol

These are directly from folks on my motorcycle forum. And people who have Motorcycles KNOW how to clean chrome!!!

I have a bottle of Fast And Furious Chrome cleaner, it works great also.

Mythbusters cleaned an old chrome bumper with aluminum foil and Coke. It worked the best, even against the commercial stuff.

I'd be worried about putting foil against chrome, but if chrome is tougher than aluminum, maybe there's nothing to worry about....

Aren't the factory "chrome clad" wheels...clad in plastic chrome?????

If they are, then all of the above could do some serious damage to the surface.

Just a thought.

They are. I think the other polishes listed above are for all of the OTHER chrome on our Edge's. But it was good to point that fact out again!

Yes, the "chrome clad" rims are plastic with chrome color paint and I do think that treating them like they are real chrome would definitely ruin them. My husband polished my rims with Blue Magic polish and the shine has lasted through many washings. It helps getting any brake dust off of them too. My two cents.

There isn't any real chrome on the edge. A regular weekly wash with carwash soap (not dishsoap) will keep everything clean, including any brake dust.

On the weekend took my Edge through its first carwash - touchless of course - and had to test the seals on my Vista roof - no leaks !!!

When I got home - I took a microfibre detailing cloth - polished up my rims - looked good as new.. no solutions required.

FYI - Owners manuel said not to use an abrasive cleaners - they are clear coated - so.. the cloth worked great.... easy and fast.. no mess

The Chrome Clad rims are clad in plastic chrome.

Car wash and window cleaner will clean almost everything on the rims.

If that dont work, try some nonabrasive clearcoat safe car polish.

This is good for the other Edge rims also.

the microfiber detailing cloth are also recommended.
