  1. Soft wool eh? Thats why it makes me itch? Must have lab born sheep In you neck of the woods. Nah, bet there are more buildings than trees there. I'm in BFE myself. To be specific I use a "Microtex Micro Fiber Chenille SPONGE". The threads are "100 times smaller than human hair". Doesn't trap dirt either. No..a pressure washer is not required but I don't like work and have better things to do. Like fishing! It takes half the time if one is used. Cleaning finder wells, engine, undercarriage, etc. with a brush is not fun and takes forever. Electric one with 1200 psi or more is all it needs. Mine is 1750 I think. They are cheap too. Mine was $150 or so. I have hot water outside which really helps. Nice on colder days for sure. My black f150 is brown top to bottom with atleast 100 lbs of mud after a day of wheelin. The gritty mud that makes deep scratches on glass and tears rubber from wipers. Wanna sponge it? Think I washed and waxed it 4 years ago. Why bother when I drive it threw the woods..literally! Carried a 175 lb deer out...once. Learned my lesson after the first mile. Problem is had 3 more to go. Have a 120 HP JD covered with cow pie's too. LOL! I'll pay real good! Bet I can cook a pig in the ground before you finish washing both! Have us a field party! Beer, bikini's and live music sound good? :happy feet: Anyway...Its just faster and easier. Gets to the hard to reach places. Clean everything in and out top to bottom is what I do. All vehicle's rust and it starts from the bottom. Look under any new car and its already started. Under coat once a year to prevent rust. If you're gonna do it...do it right! I to do the laser wash w/rain-x once in a while. $10 for a $5 job IMO. Not worth it...but I'm lazy. Take them to a detail shop in the winter once or twice. Couple black guys. Do a much better job than crackas. $60 for everything on a full size suv. Only way they last is to park it in a garage all the time and don't drive in the rain. Never park under trees is a must! I say screw it. They are fall apart in the long run so when it looks bad and/or gets an attitude, sell the problem to someone else and get a new ride. Edit: Jeff, I know its hot in AZ but you can breath atleast. I trade you some SE 102F w/ high humidity stagnet air and very hard water. What you say? Grass here makes a crunch sound when walked on. Gotta have shoes or it pricks ya. All lawns are dead here. Its just sad. Mowers create dust storms so I have to was the car again. Irrigated lawns and golf courses are brown too in high spots. IMO, its not zone 7 here anymore. Hotter and drier every year for past 10. So glad I sold the landscaping business!! BTW, retirement is expensive! You agree? I redneck engineered a big belt driven 5 ft. fan with 12 water misters on the front that makes the heat tolerable...but its very loud. 10-15 degrees cooler according to fluke temp probe. Zip tie power! Woot! Why pay $2k when I can build it with a $35 HD hotel type mister line off ebay, $5 at Lowe's and a fan? Mine has character too!(AKA ugly). Maybe a smaller version of this would help you or someone who reads my BS? Or pay some 12 yr old $10 and watch from inside? Stay cool!
  2. Rinse with pressure washer, very soft sponge and soap, rise with pressure washer, hand dry with absorber. Wax once a month if paste of liquid wax. Real wax(carnauba) will last 6 months. Don't use joy or the like...it removes the wax. Buy car wash soap. Doesn't take much.
  3. According to a Ford/MS it "should". Ford sync firmware can be updated... I think.
  4. Bluedart, Sure it can be done but if you're not happy with the stock system replacing the speakers alone will not satisfy you. It will sound a lil better but It will only sound as good as the source...which is the head unit. You will get more bang for your buck in the aftermarket. What, IYO, is the system lacking sound wise? What kind of music you listen too? Whats your budget? Look on crutchfield to see whats out there? You want more bass is my guess. SAT radio is not worth it! 100+ channels of nothing you want to hear. You just end up going back to FM after the new wears off. HD radio is the way to go..and its free! Dealer techs are good for oil changes, tire rotations and warranty stuff. Thats about it. Anyone that actually has some skill/knowledge doesn't work at a dealer for long. Very few exceptions. A word of advice, double check anything they do yourself. I bet half of you can get your wife/gf to unscrew your oil filter with 2 fingers if it was done by the dealer. Drain plugs only hand tight are common also. Always ask for your old parts.
  5. Apple's and orange's... To my limited knowledge, AWD can't be disabled on any AWD vehicle. This would require a selectable T-case which the Edge doesn't have. I'm referring to the "AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability control" (Fords slang for traction control). Using a rotating gyroscope thingamabob that monitors both roll and yaw it can apply brakes to any wheel, engage the engine brake, downshift the tranny, etc. Designed to keep the vehicle on all four's, limit skidding and the such. Here is a pic of the Edge drivetrain. The T-case is puny compared to a true 4WD T-case. I ran a couple high speed corners under full throttle in my GMC the other day just to see the response. The front tire on the outside of the turn chirped and hopped with the TC on and off. Though there was more spin with TC off I still had to look at the dash to verify which state it was in. From a standing start the spinning is more noticeable but still spins either way. Anyone seen this with an Edge? Makes me wonder how much latency is involved. Ford claims less lag on the Edge compared to others. Can't imagine anyone drifting in an Edge or any AWD vehicle so thats not it. Other than racing, burnouts at the local Wal-Mart parking lot or donuts in a field(don't deny it!) I'm at a loss for the usefulness of this feature. So once again...why have the option to disable/enable the traction control? Anyone notice it working as claimed? Optional rant... After driving 400 miles today I'm positive that no matter how smart/dumb the car may be, the moron holding the steering wheel is still in charge and the source of the problem. Slower traffic keep right. Trucks use right lane. If you have a flat...STOP! Get off the phone and in your lane! The grass median is not a parking lot! One car length for every 10 MPH! Two cars cut in half and glued together with liquid nails is not safe!(No joke, seen that on Pimp My Ride) Geez!! IMHO, DMV test are a huge joke (like saying the IRS is organized and proficient) and we should spend more time educating the drivers. A LOT MORE TIME! Make it a college course with physics and Richard Petty driving school a requirement.
  6. Jim, Life, as you know it, is almost over. Live it up! All of its good change though. Once you hold him/her for the first time you will understand. Welcome to the club! Tips: -Start a 529 ASAP!!! Invest the money in 5 star companies that pay high dividends and have a good history of raising dividends. NO mutual funds!! -If you hunt/fish... a lifetime license for a child costs almost nothing in most states if purchased before they turn one year old. -Childcare can be a tax write off. Talk with a tax planner. -Smile!!! You're gonna be a dad!!!
  7. Done a little more reading on this and it seems than AWD vehicle's will drive just like a FWD vehicle 99% of the time. Only once the front tires loses traction will power be transfered to the rear tires. Though I'm not sure if this is true for every AWD design. A car is only as good as its driver. Just use your heads for something more than hat racks. A wise man once said..."Don't fear the man who thinks like a computer... fear the computer who thinks like a man." Speaking of stability/traction control... both of my 07's are AWD and have a button to disable traction control. Why??? In what situation would it be desirable to turn traction control off?
  8. Must be city folks. Try manual pumping. Yes, that means hold and squeeze. May have to stand up too.
  9. Agree 100%! When you're young it seems like a big deal. But then you grow up and realize that most of you time is spent at home on the couch. So in comes the home theater! Car stereo's only sound good it the car is not moving... no matter how much dynomat is used. So ppl turn the volume up to overcome the noise and then wonder why they cant hear so good anymore. Had a car with 2500w when I was young. Maxed at 162db in competitions. I'm paying for it now!
  10. My wife got one too. Thats 3 of us with a wife driving an Edge. I wonder which one will be in the body shop first? :hysterical2: I can just see my better half cracking a plastic rim on a curb. For some reason she hits things that aren't moving or never move. Like stopped/parked cars, fences, trees, signs, etc. Markf8, Bad credit huh? Try a local credit union and search Google for "auto loan bad credit". They should have some Edge's at carmax in the near future. Dunno about there credit standards though. Paying ALL of your bills on time is essential for good credit and the easiest way to improve your score. GL!
  11. Somethings broken inside the door. Probably just a pin. Don't worry, it can be fixed easily. It'll take longer to get the door apart than fixing the problem.
  12. Thats what they tell you about ABS. Try steering on a sheet of ice while using constant breaking pressure and you will end up in a ditch. Till some redneck like me comes along to pull you out. :yup: Pump them...not fast...and steer in between pumps to keep you headed in the right direction. The only time ABS kinda works on slick roads is if you are stopping while driving in a straight line. If you have to stop quick going around a turn and use constant pressure either you will not be able to stop quick enough or if too much pressure your rear end may start to come around. It depends how slick the roads are. Don't be afraid to use the shoulder or median to avoid an accident. Done it a few times myself. Just don't hit something worse like a telephone poll, tree, etc. I was driving a 90 300zx, which had 4 wheel ABS, on 85 one night while it was snowing lightly. Could still see the lines on the road so I didn't worry. I tried lite break pressure to check how slick it was and all of a sudden the car turned 90 degrees and I was sliding down the interstate sideways at 60 mph. Took three lanes, about a half mile of road and lil bit of grass median to get her strait again. Think my rear bumper was leading the way a couple times. Luckily... there were no cars around me. Regained control using the gas pedal only. I didn't go over 35 mph the rest of the trip. lol That happed because I was driving too fast, had tires with nonexistent snow traction and used constant break pressure for too long. Didn't own that car long after that. Traded it for a 94 blazer which I rolled on an icy country road about a year later. Learning can be painfull sometimes. Just remember to slow down, have extra stopping room in front and behind you and have good tires for the conditions.
  13. Alternator whine? Its caused by a difference in electrical potential between two points. You need to isolate your power to your head unit from the engine. Wait....is this a factory system with no modification? If so, is the whine only coming from one speaker? Edit: This may help... Noise Problem Troubleshooting: Whining noise reh
  14. I know...but I,m not gonna waste my time or your money. AWD is not built for off-raod abuse or geared low enough. Buy an old truck or jeep. Will be much cheaper and less headache. BTW, what kind of off-roading are you referring to? reh
  15. Agreed! Don't waste your money. Get the stock wheels and go to the after market if you must replace something thats not broke. BTW, the larger the rim...the rougher the ride.
  16. Sorry the hear that. If its the dealer you got it from they should give you a loner car so you dont have to wait. Have to ask though cause they will not offer one on there own. reh
  17. What is the difference between Full time Four Wheel Drive (4WD) All Wheel Drive (AWD) and automatic All Wheel Drive (auto AWD)? How Four-Wheel Drive Works Driving Tips for Snowy and Icy Roads Just be sure to have the right tires for the conditions! Tires mean EVERYTHING! If you start to slide point the front tires in the direction you want to go and give it a lil gas. Always use lite breaking or pump the brake lightly. If you start to slide while breaking, let of break until your tires hook up again. GL!
  18. Nice rims but a complete waste of money! Should have put that $ in an IRA account. You'll need it when you grow old! reh
  19. Why do ppl do this? Sounds like a rally car. Seems everyone wants to make there cars louder these days so we can here them come from a mile away @ 2am. Why? Please explain! reh
  20. Copperhead, Just bought an edge for my wife. Nice car! Good price! Easy and pleasurable to drive. Great tranny. Smooth shifts and geared properly! She's happy! :happy feet: Have a Yukon Denali myself... which is the same thing as the Escalade under the sheet medal and chrome. I agree that the Edge has some spunk, especially on the highway. But... I'm finding your story very hard to believe. Been driving them both this past week. All I've done to mine is add a cold air intake and reprogrammed the on-board computer using a flashpaq. The flashpaq also has data logging for 0-30, 0-60, 1/4 mile, etc. My average 0-60 time of 5 runs was 5.5 seconds with traction control turned off and tranny in D. The manual automatic is a POS for acceleration. Too much delay! IMO, its only usefull for towing. MSN.com lists the edge 0-60 times @ 7.47 secs for comparison. Now... I'm not calling you a liar... anything is possible. I just think you got lucky! Maybe the Escalade had a driver that didn't know how to drive it and tried to manually shift and over reved? I dunno! Just take my advice... leave your title at home! :shades: FYI, the Denali/Escalade have an approx. 368ci sb with 380/400 hp and 417/417 lb-ft respectively in stock form. IIRC, they started with a 97 Corvette block and used the same heads as the newer vettes. Stock Mustangs beware! BTDT! Edge weighs in at 4086 lbs. with 265 hp. Or 15.42 lbs/hp. (better than I expected) Escalade(AWD) weighs in at 5665 lbs. with 400 hp. That 14.1625 lbs/hp. Escalade(2WD) is 5459 lbs. Thats 13.65 lbs/hp... once the tires stop spinning! Capice? BTW, what speed are your tires rated to? Bet you don't know without looking! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- vulcan, Name calling? Thats it? At least add something thoughtful if you're going to post! Damn trolls! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Street racing is bad, I agree, but I'm no saint! Right time... right place... for everything. Risking your own life is up to you. Just don't endanger other people's lives! reh
