  1. Thanks Pete. That is just the type of hard to find information that makes a forum so useful.
  2. I think you should be extremely happy with oil consumption in that range. Perfectly normal.
  3. They are referring to an issue with the heater core clogging that Ford has developed fix for. It involves a flush of just the heater core with a chemical strong enough to dissolve the clog. Check out some of the threads on the subject. They are not referring to a normal coolant change.
  4. Look for a loose heat shield on the exhaust pipe as it passes near the rear differential. One of the welds may have cracked and, if it happens the way it did on mine, it won't do it all the time at first and it may not be obvious that it is cracked. Put a hose clamp on it and see if the buzz goes away.
  5. The rear wiper on my 07 MKX is pretty much silent. I think your service manager is just wrong. Also, the point about the minimal swept area is true but it also seems to me that the rear of any SUV or van that has a more vertical shape does accumulate a lot more road grime than the rear window of a sedan so the wiper does serve a purpose. I vote to keep it.
  6. 2007 MKX; leak at 48000 miles with the familiar smell at traffic lights and drip on garage floor; repaired in one day just before Christmas on first try with no further problems in the past 4,000 miles. Can't complain so far.
  7. I see the reason for the letter versus a recall, especially in a case like the fuel pump, but the way the heater core letter is worded leads me to wonder if there is a relatively cheap proactive step I can take to avoid the problem or reduce the odds of it occurring. If changing the coolant and flushing the system will take care of it I consider that normal maintenance and would not ask Ford for reimbursement. I have always been skeptical of the 5 year/100,000 mile coolant claims anyway.
  8. I just received a letter from Ford on my 2007 MKX extending the warranty on my heater core to 6 years/105,000 miles due to the possibility that cooling system corrosion could plug it up. If heater performance suffers they will flush the system, or even replace the core if necessary, and replace the coolant with a "revised coolant". Anyone else get this letter? Assuming I want my system to last for more than 105,000 miles or 6 years doesn't it seem like the reasonable thing to do would be to flush the system now and put in the "revised" coolant, thus avoiding the contamination in the first place? Any idea what the "revised coolant" is? I don't want to wait until I have a problem if there is an easy way to avoid it.
  9. I had the same issue. When I went to rotate my tires for the first time I noticed one of the tires said "Inside" and the other three said "Outside". These were also the Continentals (CrossContact LX P245/60 18). I took it to the dealer and they turned the tire around, rebalanced, and did the rotation. I had not noticed any handling issue but these tires are directional so I guess it matters if they are mounted correctly.
  10. The Motorcraft website has a part lookup by VIN. The filter they show is FL-400S. It says if you want to order in a case of 12 to add "B12" to the number. Why they put FL-400SB12 in the manual is anyone's guess.
