  1. My only issue, which admittedly is a very small one, is the blue night light. That is easily remedied if I lock the doors with the outside button on the door handle. Love the car otherwise. Not for this section, but I wish the back doors opened about 5 degrees more. It's hard to get the kids buckled in their car seats.

I completely agree Richy. The doors on my G35 (and probably on your FX as well) opened up to 90 degrees. It made it extremely easy to get my daughter in and out.

  2. Done. Is there a reason to have multiple topics on MFT issues or should we just have one for people to post status?

If it were me, I'd merge all of the current threads on the same subject into one thread. IMO, there is no reason to have multiple threads on the same topic, but a simple merge would fix that. :)

  3. Agree with mleber and cirockets. No issues whatsoever with venting frustrations and so forth, however copying and pasting the same post into multiple threads is over the top. I realize this isn't one of the forums that I am an Administrator at, however repeated redundant posts would simply be deleted if it was up to me. Anyways, this is still a great forum with a lot of great members here. Thanks for all of the great information everyone has shared over the last few months. :)

  4. Folks - we now have active moderators. If you see offensive or disruptive posts just hit the Report button.

Can you tell me who the active Moderators are? From what I can tell, the only two staff members here are Staff and Staff2. I am an Administrator on a couple of other large car forums and this is the only car forum I've been involved in that doesn't seem to have active Mods.

Edit: it looks like you are a Mod now. :)

  5. ^ Completely agree. The MFT in my Edge reboots consistently and I find it very annoying. Having said that, I am staying positive and think that Ford will have this fixed (hopefully with the recently released TSB). I understand some of the member's frustrations as I have them myself, however I just don't see the point of constant complaining about an issue that Ford is well aware with. IMO, it's not going to get things fixed any quicker. :)

  6. Shane, it looks great! I am posting the link to my writeup (it's verbose, LOL). I like your wheels. Chrome and easy to clean. Mine are going to be tougher with the narrower spokes. It looks sharp in white. Are you gonna tint your glass?

Yep, I plan on tinting the glass in the spring. Probably gonna end up with 30% as I don't want to go too dark. Are you going to tint your MKX?

  7. With the really mild weather lately, it gave me a chance get my new Edge detailed and ready for the winter months. I got it washed, clayed, polished, and sealed today. I'll be letting the sealant cure for the next 24 hours and will then be applying Dodo Juice Light Fantastic carnuba wax. Products used were;

    ClayMagic Fine Grade

    Menzerna Super Finish Nano Polish

    Menzerna FMJ Sealant

    Poorboys World Wheel Sealant

Dodo Juice Light Fantastic carnuba wax

  8. I got my 2011 Limited detailed professionally yesterday... the truck looks great!. What caught me by surprise is when I went to pick it up, the detailer asked me if I had noticed the scratches on the chrome trim at the bottom of the driver's window. My truck is only 3 months old and I have been extremely careful with it so far. And thinking that I am perfectly aware of every inch of the truck, I was first shocked by the question and my second reaction was the detailer must have scratched it by accident and trying to deny it... I got totally paranoid of course but I did not go as far as accuse him. Indeed when I walked around to the driver's side, I noticed it very easily from 10 feet away... the middle section of the trim looked totally scratched... and this being on the driver's side, there is no way I could have missed it before... or so I thought... thinking I will go back to the dealer and ask them to change the piece, I took my car back and drove away. When I parked my car outside and got out of the car, I could not see the scratches anymore. I guess the fluorescent lighting at the detailer really brought out this imperfection but there is no way to see them under natural light unless you get very very close knowing there is an issue there. Which brings me to my question... do you have any comments about the effects of lighting? Should I have checked my car indoors under such lighting before taking it from the dealer on the first day to make sure all is OK? I don't know anymore if the car was given to me this way... I thought I was in total control and aware about the condition of my car... I feel disappointed and kinda cheated by this situation... the worst part is I don't know by whom?

Yes, proper lighting (fluorescent and halogen) will reveal MANY things that are not visible in normal light. That is why every professional detailer uses them. If you do not have fluorescent lighting or a halogen lamp, direct sunlight is the next best thing. It's hard to say how the scratches in the chrome trim were caused though. It could be your washing habits, caused by the dealership when they prepped your car, etc.

If you want to key a close eye on your true paint condition, pick up a halogen lamp like this. They are typically less than $50.

As an example, here is a customer's 1 week old BMW under a halogen lamp. They thought their paint was in great shape until I showed them what their paint looked like under a halogen lamp. And this was only 1 week old.

And after my work was complete under the halogen lamp.

  9. I took delivery of my MKX yesterday. I had ordered it with September's sale. Employee pricing less $3500 before taxes. After taxes, I got $1000. Cosco discount, $1000 Ford Credit discount (I'm going to pay out the loan after 90 days; it's an open loan) as well as $1000 X plan rebate. My wife may still decide to get an MKT so we will keep an eye on this sale too. Thanks for posting.

    Congrats Rich!! :)

  10. Yikes!!

Welcome back to the thread Canuck!

Any thoughts on the your new Edge's paint finish?

I was really pleased with my Black. It's loaded with so much flake, it looks almost dusty at times.

    Thanks Scott! :)

Ever since I picked my Edge up last week, the roads have been a little on the crappy side with rain and a little bit of snow. Needless to say, it hasn't exactly been clean since I drove it out of the showroom. I plan on doing my detail (wash/claybar/polish/sealant/carnuba) this weekend in the garage so I'll have a better idea of what the paint is like. I'll also take a measurement with my paint thickness gauge to see how is measures up to other vehicles. I'll report back and hopefully take pictures this weekend.

  11. That would be great! I am located in the US.

I like to keep me vehicles spotless (I'm known on the block as the vehicle perfectionist), although the methods I use to do so would probably make you squirm. I use one bucket, wash with with an old dish towel, dry with an old bath towel, etc. I have recently upgraded to micro-fiber cloths for the detailing, though, although it's usually only to apply a spray on turtle wax... :sos:

I've never realized how improper my methods are, and it's kind of confusing because it doesn't seem to be doing any harm... Anyways, I'm ready to move on to some higher quality car care products. I don't really think my vehicles need polishing (although I'm probably not qualified to make that judgement), but I think they definitely need a sealant, which I have never used before. An interesting option from Griot is a one-step polish and sealant.

So, what do you recommend for me to start upgrading my car care methods? Should I start with a general car care kit, or a sealant kit, etc.?

Thanks so much for your help!

Yikes, let's get that corrected right away! :) :shades:

Here are a couple of packages from Detailed Image that would be good to start with. George at DI is fantastic to deal with and their customer service is top notch.

  12. That's a good idea... I guess I need to tape it in such a way that the tape does not touch the panels either... have you used this method yourself? Just regular tape? Thanks!

I've done it to show customers, however I've never had to actually use it as I've always garaged my vehicles. And yes, you'll need to tape it perpendicular to the bristles so that it doesn't touch the paint. I use duct tape as it holds well. I can do this to a snow brush that I have here and take a pic if you want.

  13. I decided to try PB Trim Restorer and while it looks great when applied I am sorry to say that after a rainfall the rear bumper looks weathered. You can see streak marks where where the water ran down. So far I have to apply the Trim Restorer a minimum of once a week to keep the black looking uniform.

I would highly recommend you clean the trim first with a straight isopropyl alcohol to remove any previous products before applying the PBTR. You'll see the results you are looking for. :)

  14. Hi... I have my 2011 Edge Black/Black for 3 months now... I have been successful keeping it swirl free so far following advise from these posts and other readings so far... as you know winter is right around the corner and I am concerned about clearing the snow off using a snow brush... is there any way I can minimize the damage? Any soft snow brushes or other products you can recommend to make it through the winter with minimal damage? Thank you in advance!

One good thing to do is tape a Microfiber towel around your snow brush making sure none of the bristles of the brush are exposed. And just to be on the safe side, try and leave a cm or so of snow so that nothing physically touches your panels. The remainder of the snow will likely blow off anyways. :)

  15. Hi Canuck,

I'm looking into car care/detailing kits to request one for Christmas :stats:

I've seen a lot of praise for Groit's Garage products around the internet, so I was looking at a package like this from them.

What do you think of Groit's Garage car care products? Are there any other all-inclusive kits out there you'd recommend? Looking to spend no more than $200.

    Thanks a lot!

I personally haven't used Griot's Garage products so unfortunately I can not comment on them from personal experience. I've heard they make great products though. I can certainly help you choose a good car care detailing kit though. Are you located in the US or in Canada?
