  1. Unfortunately you can't. You will have to take it back to the dealer to unlock the whole SYNC system. I received the same message when I got my Edge and the dealer forgot to do a Pre-Delivery Inspection on it. I am curious to find out how it revert back to Pre-delivery state.
  2. Couldn't agree with you more. It is ironic that the new Edge is built in Canada and costs almost $10k more than same US model that has even more added features. We have Heritage Canada, Industry Canada and CRTC (my all time favourite) to thank for creating such an open market for us Canadians to freely choose what we can read, listen and watch or even drive. <smirk>
  3. Although I haven't received the update yet, dealer is waiting for the "special cable" to come in; I encountered a new problem. All of the sudden, my MFT bluetooth refuses to stay on. Keeps turning off when I turn it on. Shutting off the vehicle and back turning it back on doesn't work. Did a master reset which didn't work Pull the fuse and now the BT stays on but - 911 Assist doesn't work now - my tricks to getting my SE w580i phone, iphone 4 and iPad to be connected simultaneously doesn't work as well. It will only allow one BT device to be connected. - my iPad won't pair at all now. The only thing different from the day before was running over a one of two ladders flying off a pickup truck on Deerfoot (Major highway going through Calgary). Fortunately, I wasn't close enough for the ladder to go through the windshield but not far enough to total avoid the ladders and causing a major car pileup. Maybe the BT antenna or chip got loose. Shrug.
  4. From time to time it happens to me. Usually it is a the beginning of my drive and very cold outside and it is indexing my usb connections. I get delays when I press the voice button too. Not all the time just occasionally.
  5. Yesterday morning after hitting the Start button w/ brake (it was already running from Remote Start) I got the SYNC is performing maintenance screen. Plugged my iPad and iPhone in via USB for my long morning commute, everything is working via USB as it should. Even did a quick index. During my lunch break, used iPhone for audio via BT, it reverted back to: Controls worked (screen and steering wheel) but no audio. I noticed that I didn't have the option on the iPhone to switch between SYNC and the iPhone speaker on the iPod screen. But it was indexing the iPhone at the time. It seems if you have large music library and it is performing a full index, you have to wait at least 5 to 10 mins before you can do anything. Unfortunately, i am not in the Edge for too long during lunch. It might start working after a couple lunch break once the indexing is done. I thought this was a problem Apple introduced with the new update but now maybe not. Here is a new thing after the maintenance screen, there is a huge delay between press the voice button and when she comes on asking to state your command. Like I said, every day there is always a surprise
  6. I have a SEL AWD w/ MFT and my experience with the HVAC is a bit funky and I wrote to SYNC support about it and suggested some tweaks for the next upgrade. At first I didn't think my Remote Start climate settings were working as I had 1" of snow on the truck and outside morning temp was 3C (37F) and the front and rear defrost and heated seats didn't turned on. Eventually, I figured out the threshold to kick in the remote start auto climate settings is the outside temp as to be at least -1C (30F). For folks that live in high altitudes or next to the Great Lakes, the outside temp is much colder then it really is. Or in my case, it was way below zero overnight while the snow fell but we had a warm Chinook wind come in during the morning after the sunrise. My suggested tweak was the ability to change the threshold temp for remote start in order to adjust for these variances. I think it is should be easy to program into the system since after all it is a touch UI just like an iphone. In terms of the Defrost setting, that sucker pumps a lot of hot air and I love it, the side windows are pretty much cleared and dry within 5 to 10 mins of driving in -20C weather. In -30 to -40 temp, the defroster was able to keep the windows from frosting over again but unfortunately I was cooking in there and open the window to cool off. This is a huge bonus for me as my previous Jeep Grand Cherokee could never defrost my windows in extreme cold weather. I find the auto setting and the temp set at 22C (72F) feels more like 18C so I set it at 24C (75F) and it feels more like a comfortable 20 or 22C. The one thing I don't think they can fix is the windshield vent doesn't blow the air low enough on the windshield as ice starts to build up underneath the blades. It's a pain driving when it is snowing. I am going to enquire about the blades shaker which may fix this issue. It doesn't came standard on Canadian SEL Except for the funky issues I mention, I am very impressive with the Edge's Climate.
  7. But it may of introduced a new one.... On Sunday, I noticed that the Info on the iPhone under Bluetooth devices in MFT was still saying 4.1. Ah ha. So I unpaired the phone and reset MFT and paired it again. Now it says 4.2.1. Ok. Still no Artist or Track Info via BT. Fast forward to today and I get this screen I have never seen this screen before Playback controls are gone from the screen and the steering wheel controls do nothing. Everyday, you get a surprise with this system. Anyone else seen this?
  8. One of the major issues that was frustrating me to no end was after indexing my iPhone4 via USB (4600 songs) I would lose my audio controls (touch screen, steering wheel, voice). The only workaround was unplug it and plug it back in and let it reindex again until it froze again. I stopped having this issue after updating my iPhone to 4.2.1 and its been over a week. In fact, it doesn't reindex every time I plug the iPhone in anymore. Woo Hoo. I thought I would post this as I know a lot of ppl were having similar issues Now if Apple or Ford/Microsoft can figure out why the music doesn't pause when you make an outgoing call using iPhone via USB
  9. Nods I agree. You summed it up nicely. I tend to be long winded at times. The rest of vehicle works great and very happy with it. Actually it got me out of dangerous situation the other day. We got a major dump of snow around Calgary and it got me out of being mushed into a semi sandwich.
  10. I agree somewhat agree with you Akirby. It is wishful thinking on my part but I'm very bias too. I do work in IT and I appreciate when my users give me as much detail information because how else am I going to properly troubleshoot the issues they are having. From another perspective, I work for a GPS company and we make GPS receivers that have have sub-centimeter accuracy and cost just a bit more then my Edge. I don't think we would be in business if we kept brushing our customers off. We do work closely with our customers and if need be, send out a tech or an engineer out in in the field. Buying our GPS technology is a huge investment for our customers and they expect great customer service and for our products to work because it generates income for them. Although, it would of been nice to have an email reply that had brief explanations stating, we are aware of this and that or we didn't come across this issue and we will look into further. But all I got was "you have the latest version" Period. Excuse me, I just paid half my annual salary on this vehicle and that is all the response I get? I think at least myself and probably others are expecting is an acknowledgement from Ford to calm some of the owners' nerves and avoid a PR nightmare. Shaky's post is clear case of this. Maybe all my ranting is simply that i want to be a beta tester an for upcoming update and put it through its paces.
  11. Nowhere was I implying that they were sitting around waiting for problems. I was merely pointing out the contrast between the service level between Ford CS and SYNC support based on my experience so far. I really wouldn't care if I bought $300 crap PC but I and others have bought a $40k product so it would be a little bit more reasonable to expect a bit more transparency then what we have been getting so far. I think people would be OK with a few bugs but not OK when the system locks up on you while driving 55-75 MPH.
  12. WIth regards to the original poster, although not as extreme, I do notice the 8" screen takes a bit long to come up now that it is colder in the mornings here in Calgary. But we are talking about 10 seconds longer even after its been running for more than 5 mins. And I would expect it taking even longer the colder it gets. The display on the LCD screen on my old 06 Jeep responded like molasses when it was below - 20 C. I'll probably expect the same thing in my new '11 Edge. I did have a gripe about the Remote Start climate settings not turning on especially waking up to a half an inch of snow of the vehicle and didn't melt the snow off after using remote start. But it was about 2 C outside. It seems the remote start climate controls kick in when the outside temp is -1 C or below. I am actually very impressed how fast it defrosts the front and rear windows within 5 mins. Sides windows different story. Mechanical, i think my '11 Edge is great and haven't had an issues in that respect. Yes there are some very frustrating issues with the Sync system and I am sure they will be ironed out over time. One of the things I like about the new Edge and the myTouch is, like the iPhone, it is mostly if not all software driven. You are not restricted by design of analog knobs, buttons or dials. Like the iPhone, the possibility of what MyFord Touch is endless. I just hope that it is not the same trend Microsoft does in the PC world, which is totally understating the hardware requirements to run Windows OS properly. I have learned to be patient now. iOS 4.2 should be out soon and hopefully fix some of the BT & Phone issues. Maybe this is why the delay in Ford getting out a update as they are testing the new iOS since it seems the majority of SYNC owners have iOS devices. It would be nice if Ford send an email or letter to us '11 Edge owners stating we are aware of the several issues with the new 2nd generation of SYNC and we are working hard to correct them. After watching the CNBC special on Ford earlier this week, you think they would learn from their past mistakes. But I am a little dismayed, that I sent SYNC support a detailed email explaining some of the issues, what lead up to the issue, possible workaround or causes. You would think that they would response and have an Engineer work with me or other owners to figure out what is causing this issue. But all I get is some canned reply. If they can only be like the regular Ford Customer Service and go the extra mile to helping you with your issue.
  13. My stepdaughter was playing around with the Genre on my iPhone4 connected via USB so it would play only Emo artists during the morning drive to work. During my lunch break drive, i wanted to shuffle/browse all my music (4053 songs) but it would only display half of the songs. WTF?!? When I started the vehicle for my drive back home, I got the Maintenance Screen and everything was working again (any past indexing issues were gone). Unfortunately, this lasted for a couple days and I am having indexing issues again. I don't think this Maintenance screen is a reboot as the AM radio came on a couple seconds after the progress bar started. Maybe this maintenance screen just cleans up cached files of some sort. It is running Windows after all.
  14. It can vary from 8000 km if you do a lot of towing to 16,000 kms if under normal driving conditions. That is what the service guy told me after they had to dig to get the info from the service sheets. The vehicle will tell you when to bring it in. I think the first warning is at 800 km. I have driven almost 3000 kms and the oil life is at 90%. At that rate, it might not need an oil change past the 16,000 and actually need one when I hit 30k. I am sure when winter hits, the oil life will decrease rapidly. I can see the maintenance costs being minimal compare to my Jeep Grand Cherokee. Fuel is sure costing me less. I had to fill up 2 1/2 times a week with the Jeep, now I only need to fill up once a week.
  15. Occasionally when I press the volume up once or twice, I would get a lag and the volume would jump (5 notches) which made it way too loud. This would occur while indexing my iPhone which it the only time playback controls work. After indexing is finished, the playback controls freeze.
  16. Try using Firefox, I believe Safari has out-dated Java code hence why you are having problems.
  17. Yikes! My screen went blank a couple of times, i could here the beeps when touching the screen, but restarting the car seems to always fix it. I hope this doesn't lead to your situation. I think you got a lemon and asked to have the screen or sync system replaced. I sent Sync Support a long list of issues and they only responded to why the uploading the XML file still wasn't working. The response? "You have the latest version." They didn't respond to any of the other issues - indexing, autostart, system being confused with multiple bluetooth devices, NAV SD card upgrade. I guess I (we) can only sit and wait until they come out with a big update soon that hopefully with fix a lot of the issues we are all experiencing.
  18. Laff, I hear ya. It is too complicated. It took about 20 mins to get it all working but I was in a pinch since the iPad 3G wasn't working at the time. I was amazed that iPhone tethering worked with the Edge's WiFi router. it is too bad its only via Bluetooth and not USB.
  19. I found another use for the WiFI... I rigged my Edge with an iPad mount anchored to the passenger seat and for some reason i couldn't get a 3G connection. So I managed to tether my iPhone 4 to the Edge's Wifi router (using PAN and iPhone BT) and connected the iPad to the Edge's Wifi and voila I was able to browser the Web on iPad (I was in park of course). I wouldn't recommend using Audio Streaming and a NAV app on the iPad at the same time as there is a lot of Bluetooth traffic inside the vehicle and the music jitters like crazy. Another thing to note.... It seems you can only have one BT device to stream audio but It is possible to use the iPhone for just phone functions and another BT device to do audio stream. The trick is to connect the phone after the second BT device is connected.
  20. I would not limit it to only service personnel. I got my '11 Edge SEL a couple of weeks ago. It came with MyFord Touch w/SYNC. I opted not to get one with a NAV because I would use the SYNC TDI services. But after reading the manual and registering online, I found out that TDI is not available in Canada. I decided that I wanted to add NAV. After looking at some press releases from Ford and Telenav (NAV software developer for myTouch) and some forums, it implies that all you need is the SD card to activate the NAV as long as you have 8" MyTouch screen (which I have). After two weeks calling various dealers, Ford Canada Customer Service, Telenav; no one seem to be able to give me a straight answer. Actually, a few service managers told it would cost 4 grand to add NAV functions because of rewiring and reprogramming etc. Still determined, I ended up with speaking to a Ford customer service rep in US. After checking my VIN, I was told that I only have a MyFord radio and even though I have an SD reader, it will only read Photos and music and not able to read the NAV software on the SD card if I could get one. I was also told that to have an '11 Edge with NAV, it has to be pre-installed at the factory and can not be added post sales. I still think I am not get a complete answer. What does a radio got to do with NAV, isn't MyTouch and SYNC all software driven and the NAV system is just a SYNC app with Maps and POI on the SD card?
